The Impact of Age on the Association Between Physical Activity and White Matter Integrity in Cognitively Healthy Older Adults
2020
Cognition emerges from coordinated processing among distributed cortical brain regions, enabled through interconnected white matter networks. Cortical disconnection caused by age-related decline in white matter integrity (WMI) is likely to contribute to age-related cognitive decline. Physical activity (PA) has been suggested to have beneficial effects on white matter structure. However, its potential to counteract age-related decline in WMI is not yet well established. The present explorative study analyzed if PA was associated with WMI in cognitively healthy older adults and if this association was modulated by age. Forty-four cognitively healthy older individuals (aged 60–88 years) with d…
The ATXN1 and TRIM31 genes are related to intelligence in an ADHD background: evidence from a large collaborative study totaling 4,963 subjects
2010
Contains fulltext : 96400.pdf (Publisher’s version ) (Closed access) Intelligence is a highly heritable trait for which it has proven difficult to identify the actual genes. In the past decade, five whole-genome linkage scans have suggested genomic regions important to human intelligence; however, so far none of the responsible genes or variants in those regions have been identified. Apart from these regions, a handful of candidate genes have been identified, although most of these are in need of replication. The recent growth in publicly available data sets that contain both whole genome association data and a wealth of phenotypic data, serves as an excellent resource for fine mapping and …
Polygenic association between attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder liability and cognitive impairments.
2022
AbstractBackgroundA recent genome-wide association study (GWAS) identified 12 independent loci significantly associated with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Polygenic risk scores (PRS), derived from the GWAS, can be used to assess genetic overlap between ADHD and other traits. Using ADHD samples from several international sites, we derived PRS for ADHD from the recent GWAS to test whether genetic variants that contribute to ADHD also influence two cognitive functions that show strong association with ADHD: attention regulation and response inhibition, captured by reaction time variability (RTV) and commission errors (CE).MethodsThe discovery GWAS included 19 099 ADHD cases …
Physical activity and exercise in mild cognitive impairment and dementia::an umbrella review of intervention and observational studies
2020
Objectives:\ud \ud The aim of this umbrella review was to determine the effect of physical activity/exercise on improving cognitive and noncognitive outcomes in people with MCI (mild cognitive impairment) and dementia.\ud \ud Design:\ud \ud Umbrella review of systematic reviews (SR), with or without meta-analyses (MAs), of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and observational studies.\ud \ud Settings and Participants:\ud \ud People with MCI or dementia, confirmed through validated assessment measures. Any form of physical activity/exercise was included. As controls, we included participants not following any prespecified physical activity/exercise intervention or following the same standard…
Perception of quality and complexity in wine and their links to varietal typicality: An investigation involving Pinot noir wine and professional tast…
2020
International audience; Quality and complexity are abstract terms employed frequently to describe a wine's overall attributes. In the present study, we investigated: (i) attributes driving wine professionals' judgments of quality and complexity in Pinot noir wines; (ii) the relation between these two abstract concepts; and (iii) association of each concept with varietal typicality. Twenty-two wine professionals evaluated 18 New Zealand Pinot noir wines in both clear and opaque glassware via two sensory tasks, a descriptive rating task and an 8-attribute, perceived complexity questionnaire. Sensory data were associated with wine UV-spectrophotometry colour measures to aid interpretation of t…
Més de 25 anys fent camí. Ètica i Treball Social
2011
This article contains the main data from a research study on the ethics and deontology committee of the Association of Social Workers of Catalonia. It describes the history of the committee, some factual information about the consultations addressed to it, the consulting persons and other items, and proposes recommendations for the ethics committees of social work.
Cambios en el comercio exterior de los países del este. La difícil reinserción en Europa
1999
Changes in the foreign trade of the countries of the East. The difficult assimilation into Europe. The direction of the trading lines of the post-communist countries has been modified by the political and economical changes of the countries of the East of Europe, the dismantling of the COMECON, as well as by the disintegration of the USSR and the detente in the international relationships. During the forty years that the COMECON was prevailing, that region centred its attention on the USSR, but nowadays the East looiks at the West, concretaly at the European Union and more exactly at Germany. The composition of the imports and exports reveals the marked dependence on Central and Eastern Eur…
Repenser l'interculturel en communication. Performance culturelle et construction des identités au sein d'une association européenne.
2008
This thesis examines the way in which the multiple cultures and identities that people are likely to summon up during an encounter influence the nature of their social interactions. It draws on the epistemological heritage of symbolic interactionism, rather than that of cross-cultural psychology, thus focusing less on the impact of (national) cultural differences on the way that we communicate, than on the intersubjective process that consists in negotiating common grounds for attributing meaning, during a multicultural encounter (semiopragmatics of communication). By analysing a corpus of interactions observed between members of the European Students' Forum (AEGEE), the study underlines th…
