Collusion Constrained Equilibrium

2018

First published: 01 February 2018 This is an open access article licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial License 4.0 (http://econtheory.org) We study collusion within groups in noncooperative games. The primitives are the preferences of the players, their assignment to nonoverlapping groups, and the goals of the groups. Our notion of collusion is that a group coordinates the play of its members among different incentive compatible plans to best achieve its goals. Unfortunately, equilibria that meet this requirement need not exist. We instead introduce the weaker notion of collusion constrained equilibrium. This allows groups to put positive probability on alternatives …

The use of slightly asymmetrical windings for rotating electrical machines

2018

Historically, asymmetrical windings in electrical machines have been rarely used and only for specified needs, because the adoption of symmetrical configurations has always been considered the only solution during the design stage of electrical machines. The aim of this work is to demonstrate with several examples that the use of slightly asymmetrical windings can be a reasonable choice and, in certain cases, a favorable option during the machine design stage, allowing the possibility of selecting a wider range of slot/pole number combinations, without affecting the performances of the machines. More in detail, an interior permanent magnet synchronous machine equipped with a symmetrical 3-p…

Highly Enantioselective Kinetic Resolution of Michael Adducts through N-Heterocyclic Carbene Catalysis: An Efficient Asymmetric Route to Cyclohexenes

2018

Ahighly efficient strategy for the kinetic resolu-tion of Michael adductswas realized using achiral N-het-erocyclic carbene catalyst. The kinetic resolution providesanew convenientroute to single diastereomers of cyclo-hexenes and Michael adducts in good yields with highenantiomeric excesses (up to 99 % ee with aselectivityfactor of up to 458). This “two flies with one swat” con-cept allows the synthesis of these two synthetically valua-ble compound classes at the same time by asingle trans-formation. peerReviewed

Selective homogeneous hydrogenation of cycloocta-1,5, and cycloocta-1,3-diene to cyclooctene in the presence of (η4-cycloocta-1,5-diene)(η6-cycloocta…

1983

Cyclooctadiene isomers (1,3- and 1,5-COD) are selectively, homogenously hydrogenated to cyclooctene (C8H14) in tetrahydrofuran (THF) solution, under mild conditions of temperature (20 °C) and hydrogen pressure (1 atm), in the presence of catalytic amounts of (cycloocta-1,5-diene)(cycloocta-1,3,5,-triene)ruthenium(0), [Ru(η4-COD)(η6-C8H10)] (1). The rate of hydrogenation is higher when 1,3-COD is the substrate. Evidence for the isomerization 1,5-COD → 1,3-COD is reported. Similar studies carried out in several alcoholic solutions, although showing a decreased selectivity in the hydrogenation, confirm the isomerization 1,5-COD → 1,3-COD, and allow a discrimination between the isomerization an…

Catalytic Enantioselective Addition of Me2Zn to Isatins

2017

Chiral α-hydroxyamide L5 derived from (S)-(+)-mandelic acid catalyzes the enantioselective addition of dimethylzinc to isatins affording the corresponding chiral 3-hydroxy-3-methyl-2-oxindoles with good yields and er up to 90:10. Furthermore, several chemical transformations were performed with the 3-hydroxy-2-oxindoles obtained.

Damping effect on the ITER vacuum vessel displacements during slow downward locked and rotating asymmetric vertical displacement events

2018

Abstract In this paper, we present the electromechanical coupled analysis of the ITER vacuum vessel in case of slow downward locked and rotating Asymmetric VDEs. The numerical model for simulating the AVDE includes the asymmetric distribution of the halo currents obtained by a suitable 3D kink perturbation of a slow VDE downward computed by the 2D code DINA. In the case of a rotational AVDE, the rotation frequency of the kink asymmetry has been chosen to be ω = 2π × 5 rad/s. The model includes the mesh of the main passive components facing the plasma. The whole torus (360 degrees) has been discretized. It is shown that the very high complexity of the numerical model can be suitably treated.…

A general procedure for the construction of Gorges polygons for multi-phase windings of electrical machines

2018

This paper presents a simple and effective procedure for the determination of the Gorges polygon, suitable for all possible winding configurations in electrical machines. This methodology takes into account the determination of a Winding Distribution Table (WDT), in which all the information about the distribution of the currents along the stator periphery is computed and from which the Görges polygon are easily derived. The proposed method can be applied to both symmetrical and asymmetrical multi-phase windings, including concentrated, fractional, reduced and dead-coil ones. The examples provided in this paper demonstrate the versatility of the proposed method.

Lanthanum-pyBOX complexes as catalysts for the enantioselective conjugate addition of malonate esters to β,γ-unsaturated α-ketimino esters

2018

[EN] In this paper, we report the application of chiral complexes of La(III) with pyBOX ligands as Lewis acid catalysts in the conjugate addition of malonic esters to N-tosyl imines derived from ß,gamma-unsaturated alfa-keto esters to give the corresponding chiral alfa,ß-dehydroamino esters. pyBOX complexes with La(III), Yb(III), Sc(III), and In(III) triflates were assessed in this reaction but only La(III) showed good activity and enantioselectivity, while Yb(III) provided the expected product with low yield and stereoselectivity, and the Sc(III) and In(III) complexes were completely inactive. The complex of La(OTf)3 with the diphenyl-pyBOX ligand prepared in situ provided the best results…
