A Chalcedonian Debt: Observations about the Attempts to Redress the Athenian Fiscal Policy (411-407)

Thucydides and Xenophon report several Athenian fundraisings in Ionia between 411 and 407. For one of them, Xenophon uses the term phoros and specifies that a backlog was due. However, the Athenians had abolished the tribute in 413 and replaced it with eikoste, a tax of one-twentieth on maritime trade. This article proposes to reexamine this well-known historical problem of the phoros reinstatement considering it through the prism of the debt in a contextualized study which leads to reassert, among others, that several tax systems were coexisting.

Teaching is inherently connected with specific burdens that may imply stressful situations. Psychological predispositions of the surveyed group, including personality type D (distressed personality) and level of experienced stress can cause depressive episodes and sleep disorders, which have a direct impact not only on health in terms of disease, but also on well-being and the ability to effectively and properly teach. Abstract Context Information regarding sleep disturbances in the population with advanced cancer is meager. Objectives To assess the prevalence of sleep disturbances and possible correlations with associated factors in a large number of patients with advanced cancer admitted to different palliative care settings. Methods This was an observational study performed in different settings of palliative care. A consecutive sample of patients with advanced cancer was prospectively assessed for a period of six months. El presente estudio pretende resolver la controversia en torno a la identidad y procedencia del poeta Filóxeno, célebre ditirambógrafo del siglo V-IV a.C. Para ello, hemos recopilado todos los testimonios que citan a personajes con el nombre de Filóxeno desde la primera mención de Aristófanes. La investigación ha revelado que existen varios individuos con el mismo nombre y rasgos comunes. No obstante, el examen de estos testimonios revela la existencia de un único autor de ditirambos: Filóxeno de Citera. International audience; Advanced Telescope for High-Energy Astrophysics is a large-class astrophysics space mission selected by the European Space Agency to study the theme "Hot and Energetic Universe." The mission essentially consists of a large effective area x-ray telescope and two detectors: the X-ray Integral Field Unit (X-IFU) and the Wide Field Imager (WFI). Both instruments require filters to shield from out-of-band radiation while providing high transparency to x-rays. Attraverso un’analisi dell’espressione ἁβρὰ παθεῖν nel frammento 24 W. di Solone e di alcune ricorrenze eschilee dei derivati della radice ἁβρ- (Pers. 41, 135, 541, 543, 1073, Ag. 690-1, 918-20) questo lavoro si inserisce nel dibattito critico esistente intorno alla nozione di ἁβροσύνη, alle implicazioni ad essa connesse in quanto segno di prestigio sociale, e ai modi in cui essa fu percepita nel contesto culturale ateniese del V secolo.
