Sodium chloride is an ionic checkpoint for human Th2 cell responses and shapes the atopic skin microenvironment
2018
One sentence summarySodium is an ionic checkpoint for the induction and amplification of human Th2 cell responses and shapes the atopic skin microenvironment, where it could serve as a novel therapeutic target for Th2 mediated diseases.AbstractThere has been a strong increase in the incidence of allergic diseases over the last 50 years. Environmental factors most likely account for this phenomenon. However, the nature of these factors and the mode of action by which they induce the type 2 immune deviation, which is characteristic of atopic diseases, remains unclear. It has previously been reported that dietary sodium chloride promotes the polarization of Th17 cells with implications for aut…
Recurrent wheezing during the first 3 years of life in a birth cohort of moderate-to-late preterm infants.
2019
Background Data addressing short- and long-term respiratory morbidity in moderate-late preterm infants are limited. We aim to determine the incidence of recurrent wheezing and associated risk and protective factors in these infants during the first 3 years of life. Methods Prospective, multicenter birth cohort study of infants born at 32+0 to 35+0 weeks' gestation and followed for 3 years to assess the incidence of physician-diagnosed recurrent wheezing. Allergen sensitization and pulmonary function were also studied. We used multivariate mixed-effects models to identify risk factors associated with recurrent wheezing. Results A total of 977 preterm infants were enrolled. Rates of recurrent…
Assessment of prurigo of pregnancy in patients without atopic background
2020
Highlights • PP can develop in patients without atopic background. • Onset: late 2nd to early 3rd trimester; can persist until delivery. • Patient should be counseled accordingly. • These findings should be considered when classifying specific pregnancy dermatoses.
Transient suppression of atopy in early childhood is associated with high vaccination coverage.
2003
Objective. To analyze prevalences of allergic sensitization and atopic disease in relation to vaccination coverage. Methods. A German atopy risk-enhanced birth cohort of 1314 neonates who were born in 1990 in 5 German cities was studied. A total of 943 children participated in the follow-up visit at 5 years of age. Atopic symptoms and diagnoses (derived from structured interviews), total serum immunoglobulin E, and specific immunoglobulin E against 9 common allergens (CAP Radio-Allergo-Sorbent Test Fluoro-Enzyme Immunoassay) were evaluated. Children were grouped into dose percentiles according to cumulative doses of any vaccine given up to 5 years of age (<10%, 0–11 doses; 10%–50%, 1…
Chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps impact in severe asthma patients: Evidences from the Severe Asthma Network Italy (SANI) registry
2020
Abstract Background The clinical and laboratory features of patients enrolled in the Severe Asthma Network in Italy (SANI) registry, a web-based observatory collecting demographic, clinical, functional and inflammatory data of patients with severe asthma were evaluated, with a special emphasis to chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyposis (CRSwNP). Methods For each eligible patients the following information has been collected: demographic data, clinical features, asthma control in the previous month according to the GINA (Global INitiative for Asthma) Guidelines and standardized questionnaires, concomitant regular and on demand treatments and inflammatory markers. Results 695 patients wit…
Parents' smoking habit and prevalence of atopic eczema in 6-7 and 13-14 year-old schoolchildren in Spain. ISAAC phase III.
2008
Abstract Background and Aims Atopic eczema (AE) is the most frequent inflammatory skin disease in childhood in the western world. Several studies have reported a significant increase of prevalence in recent decades and the environmental factors implicated in its aetiology, including environmental tobacco smoke. This study aims to investigate the possible association of AE prevalence in Spanish schoolchildren aged 6-7 and 13-14 years in relation to their parents’ smoking habits. Methods We conducted a cross-sectional population-based study with 6-7 year-old (n = 27805) and 13-14 year-old (n = 31235) schoolchildren from 10 Spanish centres. AE prevalence was assessed using the International St…

Management of patients with atopic dermatitis undergoing systemic therapy during COVID-19 pandemic in Italy: Data from the DA-COVID-19 registry
2021
Abstract Background Few and small studies have described the management of immunomodulant/immunosuppressive therapies or phototherapy in atopic dermatitis (AD) patients during coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID‐19) pandemic. Methods A national registry, named DA‐COVID‐19 and involving 35 Italian dermatology units, was established in order to evaluate the impact of COVID‐19 pandemic on the management of adult AD patients treated with systemic immunomodulant/immunosuppressive medications or phototherapy. Demographic and clinical data were obtained at different timepoints by teledermatology during COVID‐19 pandemic, when regular visits were not allowed due to sanitary restrictions. Disease severi…
Aspetti della variabilità in “Fiabe novelle e racconti popolari siciliani” .
2017
