International students' language use and attitudes towards English and Finnish

Vaihto-opiskelu on kasvattanut suosiotaan sekä maailmanlaajuisesti että Suomessa erityisesti korkea-asteen opiskelijoiden keskuudessa. Suomi kohdemaana on hyvä esimerkki siitä, ettei nykyään pääsyy ulkomailla opiskeluun ole välttämättä kohdemaan kielen oppiminen, sillä maahan tullaan yleensä ilman paikallisten kielten osaamista ja opinnot suoritetaan englanniksi. Maahanmuuttajien määrän lisääntyminen Suomessa 1990-luvulta lähtien ja samaan aikaan tapahtunut yhteiskunnallinen murros näkyvät koulun arjessa. Näiden asioiden myötä opettajan yhteiskunnallinen vastuu on lisääntynyt. Tutkimuksen tarkoituksena oli kartoittaa opettajien monikulttuurisia valmiuksia ylläpitää erilaisten oppijoiden arvokkuutta. Opettajan selkiintynyt minäkuva, arvomaailma ja ammatillisuus mahdollistavat myönteisen suhtautumisen elämään ja työhön. Vieraiden kielien osaamisen merkitys on kasvanut globalisoituneessa maailmassa. Tämän tutkimuksen tarkoitus on selvittää lukion opiskelijoiden asenteita, kokemuksia, odotuksia ja uskomuksia eri vieraita kieliä kohtaan. Toinen kotimainen kieli lasketaan vieraiden kielten joukkoon tässä tutkimuksessa. Englannin kieli on korostetussa asemassa sen kansainvälisen tärkeyden takia, ja siihen paneudutaan tutkimuksessa muita kieliä enemmän. Tutkimusaineisto kerättiin kaksiosaisella kyselylomakkeella syksyllä 2011 Jyväskylässä. Kaikki vastaajat (N= 58) olivat lukion toisen vuosikurssin A1-englannin opiskelijoita.  As of January 2020, all Finnish pupils are to start their foreign language studies in the first grade. This study examined the effects of early language teaching by comparing pupils in grades 1, 2 and 3. The pupils had started studying English in August 2017 and had all had roughly the same number of English lessons by the time of the study in early 2018. The study examined pupils’ attitudes towards English and studying English as well as how pupils use English in their free time. Abstract Objective This study analyzes the psychological variables of distress, personality, and coping that are related to the diagnosis based on the Research Diagnostic Criteria for temporomandibular disorder. Study design An age and sex-matched controlled study conducted with a convenience sample (n = 89) in a tertiary care facility. Background: According to some current guidelines, extended thromboprophylaxis after hip and knee arthroplasties is recommended. Outpatient prophylaxis with low molecular weight heparins (LMWH) is an important part of this prophylaxis, although the rates of adherence to these regimens is not known. Questions/purposes: We determined (1) the degree of nonadherence (NA) of patients with LMWH outpatient prophylaxis, and (2) whether specific independent factors explain NA. One of the most important nonspecific pedagogical factors is the attitude of a teacher which presents especially credibility, self-confidence, commanding sympathy and empathy as well as interpersonal and physical attractiveness. The use of nonverbal signals presenting nonverbal straightforwardness is helpful to demonstrate these attitudes.
