A Knowledge, Attitude, and Perception Study on Flu and COVID-19 Vaccination during the COVID-19 Pandemic: Multicentric Italian Survey Insights

2022

In January 2020, Chinese health authorities identified a novel coronavirus strain never before isolated in humans. It quickly spread across the world, and was eventually declared a pandemic, leading to about 310 million confirmed cases and to 5,497,113 deaths (data as of 11 January 2022). Influenza viruses affect millions of people during cold seasons, with high impacts, in terms of mortality and morbidity. Patients with comorbidities are at a higher risk of acquiring severe problems due to COVID-19 and the flu—infections that could impact their underlying clinical conditions. In the present study, knowledge, attitudes, and opinions of the general population regarding COVID-19 and influenza…

Effect of attitudes toward Physical Education on motives to sport practice outside school hours

2016

2017

In the food domain, pleasure and health are often viewed as two opposite sides of a coin. However, surprisingly sparse research has examined the relative influence of hedonic versus nutritional considerations on food choices, especially in children. Yet, a better understanding of the factors that underlie healthy or unhealthy eating in children is of particular importance because eating habits are early shaped. To fill this gap, we explored the relationships between hedonic- versus nutrition-based attitudes towards food, pleasure- versus health-oriented eating contexts and children’s food choices. First, our results showed that the relative dominance of nutrition- versus hedonic-based impli…

Position Statement on Breastfeeding from the Italian Pediatric Societies

2015

The 2015 Position Statement on Breastfeeding of The Italian Pediatric Societies (SIP, SIN, SICupp, SIGENP) recognizes breastfeeding as an healthy behaviour with many short and long term benefits for both mother and infant. While protecting, promoting and supporting breastfeeding, neonatologists and pediatricians need specific knowledge, skills and a positive attitude toward breastfeeding. In Maternity Hospitals and in Neonatal Units, appropriate organizative interventions should be applied in order to facilitate the beginning of breastfeeding and the use of mother’s/human milk. The Italian Pediatric Societies indicate the desiderable goal of around 6 months exclusive breastfeeding if the in…

The Moral Dimension in the Configuration and Historical Evolution of the Concept of Poverty

2015

The phenomenon of poverty shows clearly the overflow of its economic dimension towards a powerful moral dimension, which has caused (and causes) contradictory social attitudes: acceptance or rejection; blaming or understanding; charity or duties, liability or inevitable fate; involvement or alienation; visibility or invisibility. This work analyzes the moral connotations that have been historically forming the concept of poverty to lead the paradigms with which today we conceive it and from which we intend to face it and fight it.

Individuals, Identity, Names: Phenomenological Considerations

1997

In Husserl’s early writings (the Logical Investigations and the first section of Ideas I) the main concern of phenomenological investigations is the givenness of the ideal entities of logic and formal ontology. Another field in his earlier writings is the phenomenology of perception and time consciousness. This field of research broadens into the vision of a universal transcendental aesthetics, which, in his later writings, provides the basis for solving the problem of intersubjectivity.1 The final “synthesis” of these fields and problem domains is to be found in the phenomenological theory of the life-world. Lectures and research manuscripts2 of the late period show also that this second f…

Refinement and validation of a comprehensive scale for measuring HR practices aimed at performance-enhancement and employee-support

2019

Abstract The purpose of this paper is to refine and validate a Human Resource practices (HRP) scale to measure employees' perceptions and test a two-tier model structured in eight practices and two bundles. In a sample of 554 employees, an EFA (Exploratory Factor Analysis) offered six factors that explained about 70% of the variance. Then, with 1647 employees (from 41 Spanish organizations), first- and second-order models were tested with Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA). The former encompasses eight practices. The latter grouped the practices in two bundles, one on enhancing performance and the other on supporting employees. The Cronbach's alpha, Rho coefficient (Composite Reliability Co…

Predicting Self–Confident Behaviour with Implicit and Explicit Self–Esteem Measures

2016

The present research compared the validity of popular direct and indirect measures of self–esteem in predicting self–confident behaviour in different social situations. In line with behavioural dual–process models, both implicit and explicit self–esteem were hypothesized to be related to appearing self–confident to unacquainted others. A total of 127 participants responded to the Rosenberg Self–Esteem Scale, the Multidimensional Self–Esteem Scale, and an adjective scale for measuring explicit self–esteem (ESE). Participants‘ implicit self–esteem (ISE) was assessed with four indirect measures: the Implicit Association Test (IAT), the name–letter task (NLT), and two variants of an affective …

Tonalité sociale du contexte et expérience scolaire des élèves au lycée et à l'école primaire

2004

This article presents the main results of a study that evaluates and analyzes the influence of social composition of schooling context -termed "school mix" in English-language literature- on pupils' progress and some of their attitudes, as well as on certain teacher judgments, at the primary school and 'seconde' [second form (GB)/tenth grade (US)] 'lycée' (high school) levels. The influence of school mix on pupil progress in a given year seems slight. Moreover, the results show significant contextual effects on pupils' occupational aspirations, some of their attitudes, and teacher expectations and demands. It remains to be seen, however, how best to apprehend the way effects of context accu…
