The phenomenon of poverty shows clearly the overflow of its economic dimension towards a powerful moral dimension, which has caused (and causes) contradictory social attitudes: acceptance or rejection; blaming or understanding; charity or duties, liability or inevitable fate; involvement or alienation; visibility or invisibility. This work analyzes the moral connotations that have been historically forming the concept of poverty to lead the paradigms with which today we conceive it and from which we intend to face it and fight it.

Abstract The purpose of this paper is to refine and validate a Human Resource practices (HRP) scale to measure employees' perceptions and test a two-tier model structured in eight practices and two bundles. In a sample of 554 employees, an EFA (Exploratory Factor Analysis) offered six factors that explained about 70% of the variance. Then, with 1647 employees (from 41 Spanish organizations), first- and second-order models were tested with Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA). The former encompasses eight practices. The present research compared the validity of popular direct and indirect measures of self–esteem in predicting self–confident behaviour in different social situations. In line with behavioural dual–process models, both implicit and explicit self–esteem were hypothesized to be related to appearing self–confident to unacquainted others. Purpose To assess midwives' knowledge about oral health and early caries prevention during perinatal care for mothers and babies. Study design and methods A survey developed by the investigators was conducted among midwives to assess their knowledge about caries etiology, their attitude toward their role in early caries prevention, and prophylactic measures recommended during pregnancy, and after birth, for their babies. This article presents the main results of a study that evaluates and analyzes the influence of social composition of schooling context -termed "school mix" in English-language literature- on pupils' progress and some of their attitudes, as well as on certain teacher judgments, at the primary school and 'seconde' [second form (GB)/tenth grade (US)] 'lycée' (high school) levels. The influence of school mix on pupil progress in a given year seems slight. Moreover, the results show significant contextual effects on pupils' occupational aspirations, some of their attitudes, and teacher expectations and demands.
