Objective: The aim of this study was to assess the pulp survival that occur in transplants of autologous teeth, by comparing two surgical techniques: the conventional technique (autotransplantation for newly formed alveoli), and an alternative technique, (autotransplants for alveoli in the initial phase of healing). In each surgical techniques were applied, randomly, either saline solution or Emdogain ®. Study Design:The study group comprised 26 patents, in which 28 teeth were transplanted to recipient sockets prepared mechanically. High-dose chemotherapy with autologous transplantation of in vivo purged PBSC is a new and interesting therapeutic option for CML patients not eligible for allogeneic transplantation. We investigated the feasibility and toxicity of this approach in 57 patients with Ph-positive CML. For mobilization of Ph-negative PBSC, patients were treated either with '5 + 2/7 + 3'- type chemotherapy or with 'mini-ICE/ICE' chemotherapy followed by administration of G-CSF. The optimal approach to obtain an adequate graft for transplantation in patients with poor peripheral blood stem cell (PBSC) mobilization remains unclear. We retrospectively assessed the impact of different strategies of second-line stem cell harvest on the transplantation outcome of patients who failed PBSC mobilization in our institution. Such patients were distributed into three groups: those who proceeded to steady-state bone marrow (BM) collection (group A, n = 34); those who underwent second PBSC mobilization (group B, n = 41); those in whom no further harvesting was carried out (group C, n = 30). Trial Design. This analysis compared the outcome of fresh-frozen versus autologous bone block grafts for horizontal ridge augmentation in patients with Cawood and Howell class IV atrophies.Methods. Seventeen patients received autologous grafts and 21 patients received fresh-frozen bone grafts. Patients underwent CT scans 1 week and 6 months after surgery for graft volume and density analysis.Results. Two autologous and 3 fresh-frozen grafts failed. Autologous and fresh-frozen grafts lost, respectively, 28% and 46% of their initial volume(P=0.028). Summary We assessed the safety and efficacy of bortezomib, cyclophosphamide and dexamethasone (VCD) induction therapy in previously untreated multiple myeloma patients. A total of 414 patients received three 21-day cycles of VCD prior to autologous stem-cell transplantation (ASCT). Most common grade ≥3 adverse events were leucopenia (31·4%) and thrombocytopenia (6·8%). The overall response rate (ORR) by investigator-based assessment was 85·4%. Most patients (74%) underwent successful central laboratory-based molecular cytogenetic analysis. The safety and efficacy of early bacterial prophylaxis with piperacillin-tazobactam were prospectively evaluated in 51 autologous peripheral blood stem cell transplantation (PBSCT) recipients. The results were compared with those obtained in 51 control patients receiving oral fluoroquinolones in a retrospective matched-pair control study. Overall, 76% of the study group and 98% of the control group developed at least one febrile episode during neutropenia (P=0.002).
