Turbo-Roundabout: Case Study of Driver Behavior and Kinematic Parameters of Light and Heavy Vehicles
2019
AbstractThis research compared kinematic and behavior parameters of light and heavy vehicles at turbo-roundabouts. This is of interest because heavy vehicles can influence turbo-roundabout function...
El anillo ecuestre áureo de Molata de Casa Vieja, Almaciles (Puebla de Don Fadrique, Granada)
2019
We here document an Iberian gold ring, which we have recently been able to study. It was found at some time between the late 1960s and mid-1980s, near Molata de Casa Vieja, one of the most important oppida in Alta Andalucía. The engraved bezel is of a schematic style, and derives from the iconic Iberian rider, ubiquitous on the pre–Roman coinage. It adds a new representation to this already rich corpus. The image of the rider was frequently used by the Iberian elite between the 3rd and 2nd centuries BC. The ring is now par t of the collection of the Archaeological Museum of Murcia. Con este artículo se pretende estudiar y documentar un anillo ibérico de oro al que hemos tenido acceso hace p…
A portable system for multiple parameters monitoring: towards assessment of health conditions and stress level in the automotive field
2019
In this work, an electronic portable combo system able to synchronously acquire multiple signals, e.g. electrocardiographic (ECG), photoplethysmographic (PPG) and breathing waveforms, is presented. The realized system is also capable of showing in real time some physiological parameters which can be used for assessing health/stress status of the volunteer, such as heart rate and breathing frequency and their trends over time. Thanks to the use of non-invasive PPG probes, of batteries as power supply, and to the possibility to add in the future additional sensors to acquire other signals, the system could also be employed inside vehicles for assessing the status of the driver. Finally, the r…
Crimping Profile Optimization on the Air Spring Using Finite Element Method
2018
Abstract Due to the fact that the requirements of the industry aim to improve the dynamics, the safety and the comfort during the use of the vehicles, it is recommended to use the finite element method for component quality optimization. The purpose of this paper is to provide an overview of the current state of analysis through the finite element method of the crimping process used to assemble air springs produced in the automotive industry. Starting from the prototype of an air spring, the researches are focused on the study of the assembly of the piston with the bellow and the crimping ring through the crimping process. After analysis with the finite element method and static tests, impr…
PEM FC Single Cell Based on a 3-D Printed Plastic Housing and Experimental Validation with the Mathematical Model
2018
Abstract This paper presents the design, modelling, and testing of a PEM single fuel cell based on the use of 3D printing. The design of the housings was made of SolidWorks, while MATLAB/SIMULINK were used to model performance. The fabricated cell performed satisfactorily with no leaks of gas, showing that the 3D printing method can be used in the additive manufacturing of fuel cells thus leading to significant cost savings.
Modelling of Compressors in an Industrial CO $$_2$$ -Based Operational Cooling System Using ANN for Energy Management Purposes
2019
Large scale cooling installations usually have high energy consumption and fluctuating power demands. There are several ways to control energy consumption and power requirements through intelligent energy and power management, such as utilizing excess heat, thermal energy storage and local renewable energy sources. Intelligent energy and power management in an operational setting is only possible if the time-varying performance of the individual components of the energy system is known. This paper presents an approach to model the compressors in an industrial, operational two-stage cooling system, with CO\(_2\) as the working fluid, located in an advanced food distribution warehouse in Norw…
5G V2V Communication With Antenna Selection Based on Context Awareness: Signaling and Performance Study
2022
Enhanced vehicle-to-everything (eV2X) communication is one of the key challenges to be addressed by the fifth generation (5G) of cellular mobile communications. In particular, eV2X includes some 5G vehicular applications targeting fully autonomous driving which require ultra-high reliability. Although vehicular communications are by default assumed between single antennas located on the roof of the transmitter and receiver vehicles, prior art has shown that there are other antenna positions more suitable for V2X communication, depending on the specific communication context. Antenna selection can be used in this case to select one specific antenna or a subset of them better suited for a cer…

Improving big-data automotive applications performance through adaptive resource allocation
2019
In automotive applications, connected vehicles (CVs) can collect various information (external temperature, speed, location, etc.) and send them to a central infrastructure for exploitation in a wide range of applications: Eco-Driving, fleet management, environmental monitoring, etc. Such applications are known to generate a massive volume of data that is processed in real or near real time (i.e., data streams) depending on the target application requirements. To handle this data volume, big data architectures, based on stream computing paradigm, are usually adopted. Within this paradigm, data are continuously processed by a set of operators (elementary operations) instances. Further, a str…
