Designed for Regional Engagement? The Case of Telemark University College

Established in 1994 through a forced merger between various multiple regional education providers, Telemark University College (HIT) is one of the largest and most decentralised university colleges in Norway. This chapter investigates to what extent the adopted decentralised, multi-campus model has (a) had an effect on organisational dynamics more generally and (b) more specifically how it enables or constrains HIT’s regional role. In so doing, we cast light on a critical tension resulting from the so-called ambiguity of structure inherent in universities as organisations. Motivational Class Climate, Motivation and Academic Success in University Students

Abstract The aim of this study is to predict academic success based on the motivational class climate, mediated by the university students’ motivation. The participants are 758 university students from the Dominican Republic, aged between 18 and 50 years (21.1% men and 78.9% women). A battery of instruments was administered to measure the indicated variables and a full structural equations model was applied to predict academic success. The Development of the Dealing with Challenging Interaction (DCI) Method to Evaluate Teachers’ Social Interaction Skills

The Dealing with Challenging Interaction (DCI) method was developed to measure social interaction skills of teacher study groups. The participants were 70 teachers from three schools. The inter-rater agreement, Cohen’s kappa, varied between 0.57- 1.00. The discriminant validity was supported by a cluster analysis differentiating between the skilful and less skilful teachers. The results of the supplementary instrument were equivalent to the cluster analysis maintaining criterion oriented validity of the method developed. This article analyzes Dietrich von Hildebrand’s criticism of amoral sex education, which he regards as misleading and anti-educational in many crucial respects. Its content is misleading, because it separates human sexuality from its inherent connection with married love and thereby fails to do justice to the personal and intimate nature of sexuality. Do Exchange-Rate Regimes Matter for Monetary-Policy Autonomy? The Experiences of 11 Small, Open European Economies in the 1980s and 1990s

We investigate monetary-policy autonomy under different exchange-rate regimes in small, open European economies during the 1980s and 1990s. We find no systematic difference in the degree of nominal monetary-policy autonomy enjoyed by those countries that pursue flexible exchange-rate regimes as compared to those that have kept their exchange rates fixed. Our interpretation of the results is that over the medium and long term following an 'independent' target for monetary policy, which does not deviate much from the targets of those countries to which one is closely financially integrated, is as constraining as locking the exchange rate to some particular level.
Teacher Perceptions of Reading Motivation in Children with Developmental Dyslexia and Average Readers

This study assessed the teacher perceptions of reading engagement and several components of reading motivation in children with developmental dyslexia and average readers, in an attempt to more clearly understand the role of motivation in developmental dyslexia Method.
