Dal martire al cacciatore. Traduzioni intersemiotiche dell’eroismo antimafia
2022
Sensory-based food education in early childhood education and care, willingness to choose and eat fruit and vegetables, and the moderating role of ma…
2018
AbstractObjectiveTo investigate the association between sensory-based food education implemented in early childhood education and care (ECEC) centres and children’s willingness to choose and eat vegetables, berries and fruit, and whether the mother’s education level and children’s food neophobia moderate the linkage.DesignThe cross-sectional study involved six ECEC centres that provide sensory-based food education and three reference centres. A snack buffet containing eleven different vegetables, berries and fruit was used to assess children’s willingness to choose and eat the food items. The children’s parents completed the Food Neophobia Scale questionnaire to assess their children’s food…
''Assessment of the use of hypolipidemic agents (HAs), mainly statins, in elderly subjects aged 80 years and more in Burgundy: Analysis of 13,211 pat…
2012
Manckoundia, Patrick | Lorenzini, Mathieu | Disson-Dautriche, Anne | Petit, Jean-Michel | Lorcerie, Bernard | Debost, Emmanuel | Menu, Didier | Pfitzenmeyer, Pierre; International audience; ''Only few studies have investigated the use of HA in elderly subjects and there are no data in very elderly subjects. We assessed the prescription of HA and analyzed the relationship between such prescriptions and frailty markers among persons aged 80 and more in an observational study. We recorded the prescriptions for 13,211 patients aged 80-109 years and affiliated to the "Mutualite-Sociale-Agricole (MSA)'' of Burgundy over a 1-month period. The prescription of a HA among all included patients, and t…
Lengths, girths, and diameters of children’s fingers from 3 to 10 years of age
2010
We obtained data on the lengths, girths, and diameters of the fingers of children from 3 to 10 years of age. A total of 160 children (78 girls, 82 boys) were examined in a cross-sectional investigation. The length of each finger of the right hand of every child was measured, as were the girths of the proximal, middle, and distal phalanges, and of the proximal and distal interphalangeal joint. The average length of the thumb was 49 (35-65) mm. The index and ring fingers both averaged 69 (index, 50-88; ring, 42-96) mm in length, while the middle and little fingers averaged 72 (57-100) and 56 (40-74) mm, respectively. Average diameter, calculated from the girth measurement, was 16 (11-22) mm f…
Transrenal ureteral occlusion: results and problems.
1994
Purpose The effectiveness of transrenal ureteral occlusion was evaluated. Patients and Methods Transrenal ureteral occlusions were performed in 83 ureters of 76 patients. Thirty-one ureters were occluded with use of tissue adhesive, which was secured in place with Gianturco coils in 21. Fifty-two ureters were occluded by means of silicone-filled, detachable latex balloons. Average follow-up was 3.6 months (range, 1 week to 38 months) for patients treated with the tissue adhesive and 7.9 months (range, 1 week to 61 months) for patients treated with the detachable balloons. Results Seventeen (55%) of the 31 ureters occluded with tissue adhesive and 36 (69%) of the 52 ureters occluded with det…
Mediterranean Diet and Longevity in Sicily: Survey in a Sicani Mountains Population
2012
Over the past several years, increasing evidence suggests that the Mediterranean diet has a beneficial influence on several age-related diseases, showing protective effect on health and longevity. Mediterranean diet refers to dietary patterns found in olive-growing regions of the Mediterranean countries. Previous data reported that in Sicily, Italy, the largest Mediterranean island, there are some mountainous regions where there is a high frequency of male centenarians with respect to the Italian average. The aim of the present study was to characterize centenarians living in one of this region, the Sicani Mountains, located in western Sicily. Present data shows that in this zone there are …
Air Pollution and Recent Symptoms of Asthma, Allergic Rhinitis, and Atopic Eczema in Schoolchildren Aged Between 6 and 7 Years
2008
Abstract Objective The objective of the study was to analyze the relationship between air pollutants and the prevalence of recent symptoms of asthma, allergic rhinitis, and atopic eczema in schoolchildren aged between 6 and 7 years. Patients and Methods The prevalence of recent (previous 12 months) symptoms of allergic diseases was obtained by means of the questionnaire of the International Study of Asthma and Allergies in Childhood (ISAAC), Spain, with the participation of 7 centers (Asturias, Barcelona, Bilbao, Cartagena, La Coruna, Madrid, and Valencia) and 20 455 schoolchildren aged between 6 and 7 years, from 2002 to 2003. The pollutant detection systems of the aforementioned centers p…
Postoperative Costs Associated With Outcomes After Cardiac Surgery With Extracorporeal Circulation: Role of Antithrombin Levels
2012
Objective: To study the impact on postoperative costs of a patient's antithrombin levels associated with outcomes after cardiac surgery with extracorporeal circulation. Design: An analytic decision model was designed to estimate costs and clinical outcomes after cardiac surgery in a typical patient with low antithrombin levels (= 63.7%). The data used in the model were obtained from a literature review and subsequently validated by a panel of experts in cardiothoracic anesthesiology. Setting: Multi-institutional (14 Spanish hospitals). Participants: Consultant anesthesiologists. Measurements and Main Results: A sensitivity analysis of extreme scenarios was carried out to assess the impact o…
Strictly convex variable cost does not imply U-shaped average cost
2016
Abstract We show that strictly convex variable costs do not imply U-shaped average costs and provide a sufficient condition for U-shaped average costs. As an application we study endogenous entry when firms have market power and they have decreasing average cost but increasing marginal cost.
Beyond Viner: Smoothed Cost Curves and Co-Detetermination of Output and Production Capacity
2017
We address two problems of traditional cost functions: the discontinuity caused by the production capacity (the marginal cost abruptly becomes infinite when production capacity is reached) and the production capacity is artificially exogenous. So, we introduce a smoothed form of marginal cost function. It progressively tends to infinity when it approaches to the production capacity. Then, we prove that it is perfectly possible to determine directly output, fixed costs and production capacity simultaneously, even if this could lead to a system of equations that is not so elementary to solve because it includes a Lambert function. We also show that the smoothed cost function prevails in both …
