The usage of discursive formula in the institutional discourse norms and legitimates the conceptualization of social representations in the service of the current government’s interests. AbstractCombining a set of grey literature and primary sources, this article analyses the rise and fall of the sultanate of Awsa, northeastern Ethiopia, between 1944 and 1975. Ali Mirah exploited the typical repertoires of a frontier regime to consolidate a semi-independent Muslim chiefdom at the fringes of the Christian empire of Ethiopia. Foreign investors in commercial agriculture provided the sultanate and its counterparts within the Ethiopian state with tangible and intangible resources that shaped the quest for statecraft in the Lower Awash Valley.

All legal systems by now must confront the issue of environmental protection. The scope of this paper is to analyse the Ecuadorian approach, considering that it is the only legal system which, so far, has constitutionalized the rights of Nature, thus allowing a change in the status of Nature, from object to subject of law, overcoming the traditional approach of Western environmental law. El presente trabajo pretende llevar a cabo un análisis de la acción por incumplimiento, como una de las garantías jurisdiccionales que ha sido incorporada al ordenamiento jurídico ecuatoriano a partir de la actual Constitución del año 2008; y que constituye una de las innovaciones clave del modelo reconocido por el Ecuador de “Estado constitucional de derechos y justicia”.
