Structural and electronic properties of InN nanowire network grown by vapor-liquid-solid method

2015

Growth of InN nanowires have been carried out on quartz substrates at different temperatures by vapor-liquid-solid (VLS) technique using different thicknesses of Au catalyst layer. It has been found that a narrow window of Au layer thickness and growth temperature leads to multi-nucleation, in which each site acts as the origin of several nanowires. In this multi-nucleation regime, several tens of micrometer long wires with diameter as small as 20 nm are found to grow along [ 11 2 ̄ 0 ] direction (a-plane) to form a dense network. Structural and electronic properties of these wires are studied. As grown nanowires show degenerate n-type behavior. Furthermore, x-ray photoemission study reveal…

High Temperature SiC Blocking Diodes for Solar Array

2009

This paper presents the results of an experimental investigation of the performance of 300V-5A Silicon Carbide Ni and W Schottky diode operating in the range between -170°C to 270°C. We have developed these diodes as blocking diodes, for solar cell array protection in order to fulfill the BepiColombo mission specifications. An electro-thermal characterization has been performed taking into account the harsh condition of the mission (high temperature range and electrical stress). The destructive and non-destructive tests have assured that the designed SiC diodes are able to support the electro-thermal limits. A reliability test has also been performed to investigate the stability of forward …

Broadband Fabry–Pérot Resonator From Zerodur for Laser Stabilisation Below 1KHZ Linewidth With < 100 HZ/S Drift and Reduced Sensitivity to Vibrati…

2015

Abstract Here we demonstrate the results of creating a two-mirror Fabry-Pérot resonator (FPR) that allows achieving the spectral width of a stabilised laser line below 1 kHz. It had low expansion Zerodur spacer and broadband high reflectance mirrors (99.85% in the range of 630 to 1140 nm). FPR was vertically mid-plane mounted for reduced sensitivity to vibrations and included in two shields inside a vacuum chamber to lower temperature fluctuations. Peltier element was used for temperature stabilisation at zero-expansion temperature. Pound-Drever-Hall (PDH) technique was applied. The signal from FPR was compared to ultra-stable signal (of about 1 Hz linewidth) to form a beat note signal. For…

Transform-limited spectral compression by self-phase modulation of amplitude-shaped pulses with negative chirp

2011

International audience; Spectral compression by self-phase modulation of amplitude- and phase-shaped pulses is demonstrated as superior compared to pulses that have only been phase shaped. We synthesize linearly negatively chirped parabolic pulses, which we send through a nonlinear photonic crystal fiber, in which self-phase modulation compresses the spectrum of the pulses to within 20% of the Fourier transform limit.

Broadband Tuning of Four-Wave Mixing Bands Using Photonic Crystal Fibers

2016

We present an experimental study of the shift with temperature of widely-spaced FWM parametric bands generated in an ethanol-inflltrated photonic crystal fiber. We report broadband tuning of 175 nm and over 500 nm for the signal and idler bands, respectively, achieved through the thermo-optic effect. Numerical calculations were carried out and show good agreement with experimental data.

Synthesis of optical pulses by use of similaritons.

2009

We propose and demonstrate experimentally a novel method for synthesizing chirp-free pulses of any desired temporal shape by means of chirp compensation and spectral filtering of optical Raman similaritons. The synthesized pulse shape is independent of the waveform, wavelength and energy of the initial pulses that are used for the similariton generation. Pulses are fully characterized by means of different techniques including cross-correlation and spectrum measurements, and the PICASO technique.

Wideband tuning of four-wave mixing in solid-core liquid-filled photonic crystal fibers

2016

We present an experimental study of parametric four-wave mixing generation in photonic crystal fibers that have been infiltrated with ethanol. A silica photonic crystal fiber was designed to have the proper dispersion properties after ethanol infiltration for the generation of widely spaced four-wave mixing (FWM) bands under 1064 nm pumping. We demonstrate that the FWM bands can be tuned in a wide wavelength range through the thermo-optic effect. Band shifts of 175 and over 500 nm for the signal and idler bands, respectively, are reported. The reported results can be of interest in many applications, such as CARS microscopy.

Relative phase locking of pulses in a passively mode-locked fiber laser

2003

In a passively mode-locked fiber ring laser, we report the experimental observation of relative phase locking of pulses in a wide variety of cases. Relative phase locking is observed in bunches of N pulses separated by more than 20 pulse widths as well as in close pulse pairs. In the latter case, the phase relationship between the two pulses is measured to be ±π/2, which is related to theoretical predictions formerly obtained from a Ginzburg-Landau distributed model. We have developed a simplified numerical model adapted to our laser, which keeps its essential features while significantly reducing the number of free parameters. The agreement with the experiment is excellent. © 2003 Optical …

Affordable, ultra-broadband coherent detection of terahertz pulses via CMOS-compatible solid-state devices

2017

We demonstrate the first fully solid-state technique for the coherent detection of ultra-broadband THz pulses (0.1-10 THz), relying on the electric-field-induced second-harmonic generation attained in integrated CMOS-compatible devices.

B7.3 - Field Effect SnO2 Nano-Thin Film Layer CMOS-Compatible

2009

The integration of metal oxide gas sensing layers into CMOS electronic still a challenge especially due to the high operating temperatures that do not comply with silicon transistor limits , even more critical, and metal oxide annealing temperatures. External electric fields will allow control over the energy levels of the sensing layer and thus over adsorption sensitivity, consequently the interaction between gas and sensitive layer is modulated. As the absorbed gas on the surface produces a band bending, it changes conduction paths allowing gas detection through resistance measurements. With this configuration, field switch offers fast desorption and thus handling of low temperature respo…
