UV and vacuum-UV properties of ge related centers in gamma irradiated silica

Photochemical inhomogeneity in the reduction process of the optical activity related to Ge oxygen deficient point defects in silica, characterized by an absorption band centered at 5.15 v eV and two emission bands centered at 3.2 v eV and 4.3 v eV, have been investigated. We have made a comparative study of the stationary and time dependent photoluminescence under excitation in the UV (5 v eV) and in the vacuum-UV (7.4 v eV) ranges in natural silica samples with native and with n -irradiation bleached optical activity. Pulsed electron beam excited transient absorption in SrTiO3

Abstract Transient absorption (TA) spectra and optical density relaxation kinetics in SrTiO3 (STO), STO–Nb and STO–V were studied. The electron polaron free or bound at intrinsic defect is suggested to be responsible for the TA band at ∼1.4 eV observed in STO. The band peaking below 0.75 eV in STO–Nb is proposed to be from Nb4+. The electron center V3+ or electron polaron bound in the vicinity of V4+ is responsible for the absorption band at 1.0 eV in STO–V. The absorption from hole polarons is suggested to be in the range 1.8–2.3 eV. It is shown that TA in pure STO at room temperature decays due to electron–hole polaron recombination.

Effect of annealing on Zn1−xCoxO thin films prepared by electrodeposition

Polycrystalline thin films of Zn"1"-"xCo"xO with different cobalt (Co) content were grown on indium tin oxide (ITO) substrates by cathodic electrodeposition technique and subsequently annealed in air at 400^oC. The effect of annealing in their structural, optical and chemical properties has been characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), energy-dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), Raman scattering and optical spectroscopy. Our measurements indicate that moderate annealing increases the crystal quality of the films. TheK=3/2 1 + side-band in99Y and its description by the IBFM/PTQM model

The K=3/21T rotational band has been identified in99Y with a band-head energy of 536 keV. This result is in contradiction with previously reported data, but is in agreement with predictions of the IBFM/PTQM model.

Study of high spins in $^{173}$Os

High-spin states in 173Os have been studied by γγ-coincidence measurements following the 146Nd(32S, 5n)173Os reaction. Additional information has also been extracted from the reaction 144Sm(32S, 2pn)173Os. Four main sequencies have been identified as the two signature branches of the bands built on the [642]52+ and [523]52− Nilsson states. The band features have been analysed within the framework of the cranked shell model. The positive-parity band provides evidence for a v(i132)2 crossing at low frequency and a π(h112)2 and/or π(h92)2 cross In the negative-parity band the upbend starts at relatively low frequency indicating, presumably, an early v(i132)2 alignment. MUSIC-based modal channel estimation for wideband OFDM-OQAM

Channel estimation and equalization are needed to combat these interferences. In this paper a novel channel estimator for passband OFDM-OQAM signaling over wideband multipath channels, which is based on multiple signal classification (MUSIC) with the Spatial Smoothing technique is presented. Numerical simulation results are presented in the low number of subcarriers, i.e. wideband, scenario.

Coherent control of stimulated emission inside one-dimensional Photonic Crystals

In this paper, the quasinormal mode (QNM) theory is applied to discuss the quantum problem of an atom embedded inside a one-dimensional (1D) photonic band gap (PBG) cavity pumped by two counterpropagating laser beams. The e.m. field is quantized in terms of the QNMs in the 1D PBG and the atom modeled as a two-level system is assumed to be weakly coupled to just one of the QNMs. The main result of the paper is that the decay time depends on the position of the dipole inside the cavity, and can be controlled by the phase difference of the two laser beams. © 2005 The American Physical Society

Influence of solar and sensor angles on chlorophyll estimation for geostationary ocean color imager

The impact of the solar and sensor angles on band-ratio chlorophyll concentration (Chl) estimation in Case 1 waters (open ocean) is analyzed in this work. The error range of Chl estimation due to angular variation is evaluated. The radiative transfer code Hydrolight is used for remote sensing reflectance simulation for 20 spectral bands. OC4v4 algorithm is used for Chl estimation. The results indicate that the error range of Chl estimation is between -41.91% and +46.15% when Chl range is from 0.0425 mg/m 3 to 10.6685 mg/m 3 and the solar and sensor zenith angles vary between 0 and 80°.
