A10.8 Evaluation of Disease Activity in Adult Patients with Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis

2013

Background Juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) is a disease which maintains specific childish rheumatological features during whole life. There is still an open discussion which criteria of the disease activity should be used for the management of adult patients with JIA. Objectives To analyse the usefulness of known disease activity and functional indices used in adult rheumatological practise for the assessment of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and spondyloarthritidies (SpA): disease acitivity score (DAS), disease acitivity score 28 (DAS28), Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Disease Activity Index (BASDAI), Bath Spondylitis Functional Index (BASFI), Health Assessment Questionnaire – disability index…

T2 Mapping of the Sacroiliac Joints in Patients with Axial Spondyloarthritis

2020

Purpose: To test whether T2 mapping of the sacro-iliac joints (SIJs) might help identifying patients with spondyloarthritis. Method: This study included 20 biologic-naive patients with axial spondyloarthritis (10 females; mean age: 38 ± 9years; range, 19–47) and 27 controls (16 males; mean age = 39 ± 13years; range = 28–71) who prospectively underwent SIJs MRI at 1.5 T, including a multislice multiecho spin-echo sequence. Standard MRIs were reviewed to assess the SIJs according to the Assessment of SpondyloArthritis International Society (ASAS) criteria and SPondyloArthritis Research Consortium of Canada (SPARCC) MRI index. T2 maps obtained from multiecho sequences were used to draw regions…

A10.18 Lack of Association of Serum Interleukin-17 and Interleukin-23 Levels with Disease Activity in Patients with Ankylosing Spondylitis in Latvia

2013

Background Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is a clinically well-known chronic inflammatory disease of the axial skeleton and peripheral joints. The pathogenesis of this disease still remains a challenge. Determination of cytokine profile and its role involved in AS pathogenesis give an opportunity to extend the targeted therapeutic approach. Interleukin-17 (IL-17) and interleukin-23 (IL-23) are cytokines of interest in the investigation of the pathogenesis of spondyloarthritides although their importance in AS is not clearly defined. Objectives to investigate levels of IL-17 and IL-23 in a group of AS and in a demographically matched group of healthy subjects and its association with the diseas…

THU0476-HPR Perceived influence of health status on sexual activity in ankylosing spondylitis patients:

2013

Background Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is a chronic, systemic inflammatory rheumatic disease which affects the axial skeleton, but may also affect peripheral joints, tendons and internal organs. The disease which begins in the second or third decade may give rise to significant loss of function and impaired quality of life. Sexuality is an important part of quality of life. Only a few studies have explored this issue in AS patients. In a rheumatoid arthritis (RA) cohort, (74% females, mean (SD) age 56.5 (14.2) years), 1/3 of the patients reported their health statues to have a considerable influence on their sexual activity (1). Objectives To examined the impact of perceived influence of he…

The relationship between demographic- and disease-related variables and health-related quality of life in patients with axial spondyloarthritis

2017

Background Axial spondyloarthritis (ax-SpA) is a chronic inflammatory disease of the spine causing pain, stiffness, loss in physical function, and fatigue. Therefore, the physical and psychological burden of having this chronic disease can reduce the quality of life. We aimed to explore the relationship between demographic- and disease-related variables and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in patients with ax-SpA. Methods Demographic- and disease-related, HRQoL-related and treatment data were collected. Disease measures included the Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Disease Activity Index (BASDAI), the BAS Functional Index (BASFI), the BAS Global (BAS-G) score, the Maastricht Ankylosing Spo…

THU0469-HPR Sexual perception and sexual problems in patients with ankylosing spondylitis

2013

Background Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is a chronic, systemic inflammatory rheumatic disease affecting the axial skeleton, but may also affect peripheral joints, tendons and internal organs. This disease which begins in the second or third decade may give rise to significant loss of function and impaired quality of life. Despite the known importance of sexuality as part of quality of life (1), only a few studies have explored this important issue in AS patients. Objectives To explore sexuality in patients with AS in regard to how satisfied they are with their sexual life and whether the patients think their sexuality is influenced by the disease. Methods This is a prospective, longitudinal,…

FRI0158 Prostaglandin e2 and its receptor subtype ep4 are involved in ankylosing spondylitis disease progression

2018

Background Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms (SNPs) in PTGER4 were found to be associated with Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) in GWAS. PTGER4 codes for the prostaglandin-E2 receptor EP4. PGE2/EP4 interaction can affect bone formation and inflammation. Objectives We studied serum PGE2 levels and SNPs in PTGER4 in relation to spinal fusion in AS patients. We also evaluated the interaction of smoking, PGE2 and EP4 in driving IL23 production and ILC3 functions. Methods Patients diagnosed with AS using the modified New York criteria and followed prospectively using a standardised protocol, were included in this study. Biological samples including serum, gut, synovial and bone marrow (BM) samples, DNA…

THU0573 Association Between Sosiodemogapic Data and Perceived Health Status on Sexual Activity in Patients with Axial Spondyloarthritis

2013

Background Axial spondyloarthritis (ax-SpA) is a chronic inflammatory disorder causing signs and symptoms from the axial skeleton, but may also affect peripheral joints, tendons and internal organs. Ax-SpA may give rise to significant loss of function and impaired quality of life. Despite the known importance of sexuality as part of quality of life (Healey 2009), only a few studies have explored sexuality in ax-SpA patients. Objectives To investigate the association between sosiodemograpic data and perceived health status on sexual activity in patients with ax-SpA. Methods Patients with ax-SpA (fulfilling the axial SpA criteria) were consecutively recruited from one clinic in southern and o…

Aerobic exercise for axial spondyloarthritis - its effects on disease activity and function as compared to standard physiotherapy: A systematic revie…

2019

Aim To evaluate the impact of an aerobic fitness program on disease activity, defined by the Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Disease Activity Index (BASDAI) and on C-reactive protein (CRP), erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) and the Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Functional Index (BASFI) in case of axial spondyloarthritis. Methods A systematic review of the literature, following the Prisma recommendations, was performed by two reviewers on the PubMed and Embase databases. Controlled trials assessing the efficacy of aerobic exercises compared to physiotherapy on axial spondyloarthritis disease activity were included. The diagnosis of axial spondyloarthritis was meeting the New York criteria and/o…
