Mind the gap: Treefalls as drivers of parental trade-offs

Abstract Tree‐fall gaps are small‐scale disturbances whose formation, colonization, and role in forest dynamics are well documented, but whose effects on animal ecology are still greatly overlooked, except for studies comparing species richness of gaps 6+ months old to that in the closed canopy. Other factors associated with the invasion of fresh tree‐fall gaps such as animal breeding adaptations have been largely neglected. Iterative Methods for Pricing American Options under the Bates Model

We consider the numerical pricing of American options under the Bates model which adds log-normally distributed jumps for the asset value to the Heston stochastic volatility model. A linear complementarity problem (LCP) is formulated where partial derivatives are discretized using finite differences and the integral resulting from the jumps is evaluated using simple quadrature. A rapidly converging fixed point iteration is described for the LCP, where each iterate requires the solution of an LCP. These are easily solved using a projected algebraic multigrid (PAMG) method. Tensions between the people and parliament over representation are a normal feature of representative democracies. In this paper, we demonstrate how digital humanities analysis tools help in answering questions about the timing of debates on popular representation, tensions over its realization, and representatives’ changing perceptions on their parliamentary role. Bakalaura darbā tiek apskatīts tiesas debašu regulējums Kriminālprocesa likumā un citu valstu kriminālprocesa kodeksos, kā arī analizēti gaidāmo grozījumu Kriminālprocesa likumā (Nr. 427/Lp13) apsvērumi. Darba mērķis ir izpētīt tiesas debašu nozīmi un saturu kriminālprocesā, kā arī noskaidrot to ilguma ierobežošanas nepieciešamību un ietekmi uz iztiesāšanas norisi. Darba uzdevumi ir izpētīt tiesas debašu institūtu un tā vēsturisko attīstību Latvijā, analizēt tiesas debašu ilguma ierobežošanas iemeslus, pētot likumdošanas materiālus, kā arī salīdzināt regulējumu ārvalstīs un citos procesuālajos likumos Latvijā. Metaforu tulkošana Eiropas Savienības Parlamenta debatēs

Darbā identificētas metaforas Eiropas Savienības Parlamenta debašu runās ar mērķi analizēt izmantoto metaforu tulkošanas stratēģijas sinhronajā tulkojumā latviešu valodā, ņemot vērā metaforas veidu. Pirmajās divās nodaļās veikta zinātniskās literatūras izpēte saistībā ar tulkošanas un metaforas konceptu, sinhronās tulkošanas aspektiem, apskatīts metaforu iedalījums un tulkošanas stratēģijas. Trešajā nodaļā tiek analizētas parlamenta debatēs izmantotās metaforu tulkošanas stratēģijas. Tiek secināts, ka metaforas rada grūtības tulkiem, pārsvarā tulkotas izmantojot pārfrāzēšanu, nevis ekvivalentu metaforu, visbiežāk izmantotas leksiskas metaforas.
