Palaeoenvironmental andstratigraphic aspects of animal traces and plant remains in Spanish Permian red beds (Peña Sagra, Cantabrian Mountains, Spain)
1997
Abstract Various vertebrate and invertebrate traces and plants remains have been discovered in the Permian of Pico Paraes (Cantabrian Mountains). They occur in the Sagra Formation, a 400 m thick unit consisting of a vertical alternation of channels with conglomeratic sandstones and fossiliferous red siltstones with a caliche horizon at the top. The most common trace is Hyloidichnus major which is attributed to approximately 50 cm long Captorhinomorphs. Other tracks provisionally assigned to Limnopus could also indicate the presence of Temnospondyls. The bedding planes with traces also show some tracks of Isopodichnus cf. minutus which is ascribed to small triopsid crustaceans. Like the foot…
Mid-Triassic to Early Liassic clastic/evaporitic deposits over the Maghreb Platform
2003
Abstract The development of Triassic to Lower Liassic clastic/evaporitic series over the epicratonic Maghreb Platform is closely associated with the eastern opening of a Tethyan marine domain between Africa and Europe. West of the platform, Morocco became separated from North America in Late Triassic times by rifting along the axis of the Proto-Atlantic Ocean. In addition, NE–SW and ENE–WSW trending Atlasic half-grabens formed, essentially in Morocco, as part of a Late Triassic/Early Liassic Atlas rifting episode. This is the tectonic context in which the red bed to evaporite sequences were deposited. A first depositional pattern is illustrated by the areally extensive onlapping of Upper Tr…
BythinellaMoquin-Tandon, 1856 (Gastropoda: Rissooidea: Bythinellidae) in Romania: species richness in a glacial refugium
2009
Mitochondrial cytochrome oxidase I (COI) and ribosomal internal transcribed spacer 1 (ITS-1) sequences were analysed in 12 Romanian Bythinella populations. Phylogenetic relationships were inferred using maximum parsimony, maximum likelihood and Bayesian techniques. For COI, the Kimura two-parameter (K2P) distances and haplotype networks were computed. Two sympatric and four allopatric groups were distinguished. The K2P distances are similar to those for congeneric rissooids, so each of the six groups represents a species. Two are identified as Bythinella molcsanyi H. Wagner, 1941, and Bythinella dacica Grossu, 1946. The other four groups cannot be ascribed to any known Bythinella. The occur…
The RAMON module: architecture framework and performance results
2003
A design study of a Re-configurable Access Module for Mobile Computing Applications is described. After a presentation of its cross-layered architecture, Control Parameters (CPs) of the module are introduced. The set of CPs both describes the functional state of the communication process in relation to the time-varying transport facilities and provides, as input of suitable Algorithms, the control information to re-configure the whole protocol stack for facing modified working conditions. The paper also presents the structure of the simulator realized to demonstrate the feasibility of the design guidelines and to evaluate reconfigurability performances.
An Electronic Emulator of Combined Photovoltaic and Solar Thermal Systems
2010
An emulator of combined Photovoltaic and Solar Thermal (CPS) systems is presented. In order to carry out early testing on the design of such systems, a - microcontrolled based - hardware board has been designed, implemented and tested. This emulator is able run several typical daily solar irradiation patterns as a function of the seasons and a complete solar thermal and photovoltaic model that depends on a very flexible set of parameters characterizing the real CPS behaviour. By properly varying these parameters many different CPS models can easily be created and tailored to the energy performance needed for a predefined target application. Beside these functionalities, the CPS emulator is …
Characterization and pilot scale fluidized bed gasification of herbaceous biomass: A case study on alfalfa pellets
2015
Abstract Pilot-scale bubbling fluidized bed gasification tests of alfalfa pellets were performed at two different operational periods ranged on the basis of the two given equivalence ratio (ER) (the ratio between actual air and the stoichiometric air) namely as 0.25 and 0.30. During the test, the solid feeding rate was kept constant at 4.7 kg/h while the air input was varied and thus the ER. Increasing air from 4.16 to 4.99 N m3/h contributed to the evolution pattern of several parameters such as the rise in gas lower heating value (LHV) and gas yield, the average maximum of which were 4.2 MJ/N m3 and 1.5 N m3/kg respectively. Gas composition was mainly boosted by the concentration of CO, a…
Renewable energy for sustainable rural development: synergies and mismatches
2020
Abstract Energy transition is increasingly regarded as a promising opportunity for the economic development of rural areas. This possibility is associated with the siting and (co-)ownership of decentralized (small-scale) renewable energy facilities. The underlying productive link, however, has been taken for granted, rather than conceptually and practically cultivated. Thus, while renewable energy-based rural development has been stated as a desired by-product of energy transitions, its potential has remained largely unfulfilled. This review aims to illuminate the ambiguous interplay between renewable energy and rural development in the context of the current trajectories of the energy tran…
126. Dosimetric analysis of phenolic solid state pellets exposed to radio-therapeutic photon and electron beams through electron spin resonance techn…
2018
Abstract Purpose Among the various dosimetric techniques used for characterizing the radiation beams used in radiation therapy, the electron spin resonance (ESR) arouses increasing interest for applications in various therapy procedures. In this work we report the ESR investigation of particular phenol compounds exposed to clinical photon and electron beams [1] . Materials and methods Pellets were produced by mixing Phenol (IRGANOX 1076® Sigma Aldrich) and paraffin (10% by weight). The irradiations of dosimeters were performed with photon and electron beams with absorbed doses ranging from 0 to 13 Gy. Basic dosimetric properties of phenolic dosimeters, such as reproducibility, dose-response…
Response of GAFChromic® HD-V2 film dosimeter in 10-300 Gy dose range for radiation testing of electronic devices
2019
The study reported in this paper aimed to investigate the response of a GAFChromic? HD-V2 film dosimeter in the dose range between 10 and 300 Gy, normally used to perform irradiation tests on electronic devices with a 60Co gamma-ray irradiator. The well-defined linearity of response in terms of absorbance as a function of absorbed dose, easiness of handling and data analysis of irradiated dosimeters, reproducibility, stability, and insensitivity to visible light and most of the environmental parameters, make HD-V2 film a flexible, inexpensive and reliable dose measurement device. The study has shown a fogging effect of the dosimeter response since its value changes over time. Strategies and…
Contribution à l’apprentissage de représentation de données à base de graphes avec application à la catégorisation d’images
2020
Graph-based Manifold Learning algorithms are regarded as a powerful technique for feature extraction and dimensionality reduction in Pattern Recogniton, Computer Vision and Machine Learning fields. These algorithms utilize sample information contained in the item-item similarity and weighted matrix to reveal the intrinstic geometric structure of manifold. It exhibits the low dimensional structure in the high dimensional data. This motivates me to develop Graph-based Manifold Learning techniques on Pattern Recognition, specially, application to image categorization. The experimental datasets of thesis correspond to several categories of public image datasets such as face datasets, indoor and…
