Abstract The solitary parasitoid Eretmocerus mundus Mercet (Hymenoptera: Aphelinidae) is one of the key biological control agents of the whitefly Bemisia argentifolii Bellows & Perring, also known as B. tabaci (Gennadius) B-biotype (Homoptera: Aleyrodidae). We present new information on its biology, and particularly about larval elimination during the first instar in cases of superparasitism. For the first time, physical elimination of supernumerary larvae was observed, both outside and inside the host. These findings are documented with confocal microscopy images and video recordings. Bempedoic acid as adjunct for traditional lipid-lowering therapy in patients with hyperlipidaemia

Statin therapy has been the cornerstone for the reduction of cholesterol and circulating low-density lipoprotein (LDL) in patients with cardiovascular diseases. However, statin monotherapy has disadvantages attributable to myopathies and to the insufficient cholesterol reduction observed in some patients. There is a need for new well-tolerated therapies for lowering LDL. This review will focus on bempedoic acid in combination with traditional statin therapy or other lipid-lowering agents and its emerging role in LDL-C lowering. Bempedoic acid is also a viable alternative for reducing LDL cholesterol in the treatment of some patients suffering from heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia.

Characteristic matrix in the bending plate analysis by SBEM

This paper deals with the thin bending plate analysis by using the symmetric approach of Boundary Element Method (SBEM). A formulation is used in which the plate boundary is discretized into boundary elements and is subjected to appropriate distributions of shear forces and couples, as well as of vertical displacement and rotations. These distributions are the causes and are modelled through appropriate shape functions, whereas the generalized effects are obtained, according to the Galerkin approach, as weighting of the displacements and the rotations, as well as of the shear forces and moments.
