Automatic bilevel ventilation in sleep-disordered breathing: A real-life experience in southern Italy

Automatic bilevel ventilation (AutoBI) has been recently introduced to treat obstructive sleep-disordered breathing (SDB), but clinical experience is still limited. We revised the charts of patients treated for obstructive SDB in our sleep clinic in 2015 (n=214) to assess the frequency of trials of AutoBI ventilators (ResMed Auto25 or Respironics BiFlex), the clinical characteristics of these patients, the reason to shift from CPAP to AutoBI, and the outcome of AutoBI titration. A characterization of Hajłasz–Sobolev and Triebel–Lizorkin spaces via grand Littlewood–Paley functions

Abstract In this paper, we establish the equivalence between the Hajlasz–Sobolev spaces or classical Triebel–Lizorkin spaces and a class of grand Triebel–Lizorkin spaces on Euclidean spaces and also on metric spaces that are both doubling and reverse doubling. In particular, when p ∈ ( n / ( n + 1 ) , ∞ ) , we give a new characterization of the Hajlasz–Sobolev spaces M ˙ 1 , p ( R n ) via a grand Littlewood–Paley function.

FLORICAULA/ LEAFY-like genes were initially characterized as flower meristem identity genes. In a range of angiosperms, expression occurs also in vegetative shoot apices and developing leaves, and in some species with dissected leaves expression is perpetuated during organogenesis at the leaf marginal blastozone. The evolution of these expression patterns and associated functions is not well understood. Solvation of a probe molecule by fluid supercooled water in a hydrogel at 200 K

By combining electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) measurements on a nitroxide probe and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), we demonstrate existence of liquid supercooled water in a silica hydrogel with high hydration level down to temperatures of at least 198 K. Besides the major fraction of liquid supercooled water, a minor fraction crystallizes at about 236 K during cooling and melts at 246 K during heating. The liquid domains are of sufficient size to solvate the nearly spherical paramagnetic probe molecule TEMPO with a diameter of about 6 angstrom. The mutagenicity of fjord-region benzo[c]chrysene diol-epoxide (BcCDE) stereoisomers((+) anti-BcCDE, (-)anti-BcCDE, (+)syn-BcCDE, and (-)syn-BcCDE) was studied in a forward-mutation system. pEC plasmid containing the human c-Ha-ras-1 proto-oncogene was reacted in vitro with each optically active isomer separately and transfected into NIH/3T3 cells. Morphologically transformed foci were cloned, and DNA obtained from these foci was tested for the presence of Ha-ras-1 sequence by Southern blot analysis. Repetitive nucleotide sequencing of a dispensable DNA segment in a clonal population of African swine fever virus

Abstract Repetitive nucleotide sequencing of a dispensable genomic segment of a clonal population of African swine fever (ASF) virus has been carried out to estimate the mutant frequency to neutral alleles. Since no mutations have been detected in a total of 54026 nucleotides screened, the maximum mutant frequency is 5.5 × 10 −5 substitutions/nucleotide (95% confidence level). The result renders very unlikely the occurrence of hypermutational events during ASF virus DNA replication, at least within the selected DNA fragment.
