Prospects for the microbial production of food flavours

1996

The microbial production of natural flavours has been extensively studied during the past decade, and some processes are currently being exploited commercially. However, in the case of flavour compounds such as lactones and some aromatic compounds, the lack of basic information on their metabolism, as well as their high toxicity, are two main barriers to industrial production. The development of novel and cheap production processes, such as solid-state fermentation, may help overcome some of the current limitations of microbial flavour production, as well as widening the spectrum of biotechnologically accessible compounds.

Isolation and characterization of a Vitis vinifera transcription factor, VvWRKY1, and its effect on responses to fungal pathogens in transgenic tobac…

2007

International audience; Pathogen attack represents a major problem for viticulture and for agriculture in general. At present, the use of phytochemicals is more and more restrictive, and therefore it is becoming essential to control disease by having a thorough knowledge of resistance mechanisms. The present work focused on the trans-regulatory proteins potentially involved in the control of the plant defence response, the WRKY proteins. A full-length cDNA, designated VvWRKY1, was isolated from a grape berry library (Vitis vinifera L. cv. Cabernet Sauvignon). It encodes a polypeptide of 151 amino acids whose structure is characteristic of group IIc WRKY proteins. VvWRKY1 gene expression in …

Anakinra drug retention rate and predictive factors of long-term response in systemic juvenile idiopathic arthritis and adult onset still disease

2019

Background and Objective: Only a few studies have reported long-term efficacy of interleukin (IL)-1 inhibition in systemic juvenile idiopathic arthritis (sJIA) and adult-onset Still disease (AOSD). Herein we report on the effectiveness of anakinra (ANA), expressed in terms of drug retention rate (DRR), and evaluate the predictive factors of drug survival in a cohort of patients with sJIA and AOSD. Patients and Methods: This is a multicenter study reviewing retrospectively the medical records from 61 patients with sJIA and 76 with AOSD, all treated with ANA in 25 Italian tertiary referral centers. Results: The cumulative retention rate of ANA at 12-, 24-, 48-, and 60-month of follow-up was 7…

Volatile compounds produced by the ligninolytic fungus Phlebia radiata Fr. (Basidiomycetes) and influence of the strain specificity on the odorous pr…

1989

Abstract The odorous volatile compounds produced by 3 strains (out of 25 strains tested) of Phlebia radiata Fr. were investigated on six synthetic media and identified by GC-MS analysis. One of the 3 strains was odourless. Aromatic primary alcohols and a sesquiterpenic alcohol, α-bisabolol, were the most abundant metabolites for both of the other strains, which exhibited similar flavours and a similar gas chromatographic profile.

Kinetics of Thermoascus aurantiacus solid-state fermentation on sugar-beet pulp-polysaccharide alteration and production of related enzymatic activit…

1996

International audience; The fungal solubilization of cell wall components of sugar-beet pulp, during solid-state fermentation of Thermoascus aurantiacus, is reported here. The extracellular fungal enzyme activities related to the substrate degradation were also studied. In 120 h, more than 60% of the main sugar-beet pulp polysaccharides, i.e. pectins, arabinose- and glucose-containing polysaccharides, were rapidly brought into solution by the fungus. The slow accumulation of monosaccharides compared to the fast degradation of the polysaccharides suggested that most of the released sugars were consumed by the fungus. The analysis of the enzymes present in the water extracts of the solid-stat…

Expression profiling of prospero in the Drosophila larval chemosensory organ: Between growth and outgrowth

2010

AbstractBackgroundThe antenno-maxilary complex (AMC) forms the chemosensory system of theDrosophilalarva and is involved in gustatory and olfactory perception. We have previously shown that a mutant allele of the homeodomain transcription factor Prospero (prosVoila1,V1), presents several developmental defects including abnormal growth and altered taste responses. In addition, many neural tracts connecting the AMC to the central nervous system (CNS) were affected. Our earlier reports on larval AMC did not argue in favour of a role ofprosin cell fate decision, but strongly suggested thatproscould be involved in the control of other aspect of neuronal development. In order to identify these fu…

Myxoma virus Leukemia-associated protein is responsible for major histocompatibility complex class I and Fas-CD95 down-regulation and defines scrapin…

2002

ABSTRACTDown-modulation of major histocompatibility class I (MHC-I) molecules is a viral strategy for survival in the host.Myxoma virus, a member of thePoxviridaefamily responsible for rabbit myxomatosis, can down-modulate the expression of MHC-I molecules, but the viral factor(s) has not been described. We cloned and characterized a gene coding for an endoplasmic reticulum (ER)-resident protein containing an atypical zinc finger and two transmembrane domains, which we called myxoma virus leukemia-associated protein (MV-LAP). MV-LAP down-regulated surface MHC-I and Fas-CD95 molecules upon transfection; the mechanism probably involves an exacerbation of endocytosis and was lost when the ER r…

Drug survival of anakinra and canakinumab in monogenic autoinflammatory diseases: observational study from the International AIDA Registry

2021

Abstract Objectives To investigate survival of IL-1 inhibitors in monogenic autoinflammatory disorders (mAID) through drug retention rate (DRR) and identify potential predictive factors of drug survival from a real-life perspective. Patients and methods Multicentre retrospective study analysing patients affected by the most common mAID treated with anakinra or canakinumab. Survival curves were analysed with the Kaplan-Meier method. Statistical analysis included a Cox-proportional hazard model to detect factors responsible for drug discontinuation. Results Seventy-eight patients for a total of 102 treatment regimens were enrolled. The mean treatment duration was 29.59 months. The estimated D…
