Guest-dependent single-ion magnet behaviour in a cobalt(ii) metal-organic framework.
2015
Single-ion magnets (SIMs) are the smallest possible magnetic devices for potential applications in quantum computing and high-density information storage. Both, their addressing in surfaces and their organization in metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are thus current challenges in molecular chemistry. Here we report a two-dimensional 2D MOF with a square grid topology built from cobalt(ii) SIMs as nodes and long rod-like aromatic bipyridine ligands as linkers, and exhibiting large square channels capable to host a large number of different guest molecules. The organization of the cobalt(ii) nodes in the square layers improves the magnetic properties by minimizing the intermolecular interaction…
Stable maps from surfaces to the plane with prescribed branching data
2007
Abstract We consider the problem of constructing stable maps from surfaces to the plane with branch set a given set of curves immersed (except possibly with cusps) in the plane. Various constructions are used (1) piecing together regions immersed in the plane (2) modifying an existing stable map by a sequence of codimension one transitions (swallowtails etc) or by surgeries. In (1) the way the regions are pieced together is described by a bipartite graph (an edge C* corresponds to a branch curve C with the vertices of C* corresponding to the two regions containing C). We show that any bipartite graph may be realized by a stable map and we consider the question of realizing graphs by fold ma…
Hybrid recommendation methods in complex networks
2015
We propose here two new recommendation methods, based on the appropriate normalization of already existing similarity measures, and on the convex combination of the recommendation scores derived from similarity between users and between objects. We validate the proposed measures on three relevant data sets, and we compare their performance with several recommendation systems recently proposed in the literature. We show that the proposed similarity measures allow to attain an improvement of performances of up to 20\% with respect to existing non-parametric methods, and that the accuracy of a recommendation can vary widely from one specific bipartite network to another, which suggests that a …
Structure and evolution of a European Parliament via a network and correlation analysis
2016
We present a study of the network of relationships among elected members of the Finnish parliament, based on a quantitative analysis of initiative co-signatures, and its evolution over 16 years. To understand the structure of the parliament, we constructed a statistically validated network of members, based on the similarity between the patterns of initiatives they signed. We looked for communities within the network and characterized them in terms of members' attributes, such as electoral district and party. To gain insight on the nested structure of communities, we constructed a hierarchical tree of members from the correlation matrix. Afterwards, we studied parliament dynamics yearly, wi…
Covariance and correlation estimators in bipartite complex systems with a double heterogeneity
2019
Complex bipartite systems are studied in Biology, Physics, Economics, and Social Sciences, and they can suitably be described as bipartite networks. The heterogeneity of elements in those systems makes it very difficult to perform a statistical analysis of similarity starting from empirical data. Though binary Pearson's correlation coefficient has proved effective to investigate the similarity structure of some real-world bipartite networks, here we show that both the usual sample covariance and correlation coefficient are affected by a bias, which is due to the aforementioned heterogeneity. Such a bias affects real bipartite systems, and, for example, we report its effects on empirical dat…
tBuLi-Mediated One-Pot Direct Highly Selective Cross-Coupling of Two Distinct Aryl Bromides.
2015
A Pd-catalyzed direct cross-coupling of two distinct aryl bromides mediated by tBuLi is described. The use of [Pd-PEPPSI-IPr] or [Pd-PEPPSI-IPent] as catalyst allows for the efficient one-pot synthesis of unsymmetrical biaryls at room temperature. The key for this selective cross-coupling is the use of an ortho-substituted bromide that undergoes lithium-halogen exchange preferentially.
Unusual interaction extended between the pyranose ring oxygen and Zn(II) center in the complexes derived from 4,6-O-butylidene/ethylidene-N-(α-hydrox…
2003
The Zn(II) complexes of 4,6-O-butylidene/ethylidene-N-(α-hydroxynaphthylidene/o-hydroxybenzylidene)-β-Image -glucopyranosylamine have been synthesized and characterized using spectral and analytical methods and structure for one of the products was established. The geometry of the complexes vary from unusual distorted trigonal bipyramidal to pseudo-bicapped tetrahedron depending upon the extent of binding of pyranose ring oxygens to the Zn(II) ion, as evidenced from crystal structures. Such interaction is also reflected on the optical rotation and CD spectral properties of these complexes in solution.
Über polygermane
1984
Abstract The optimum conditions for selectively cleaving off two phenyl groups in Ge2Ph6 by trichloroacetic acid have been determined. Neither trihaloacetic acids nor HCl/AlCl3 nor reactive tetrahalides MCl4 are suitable reagents for cleaving one phenyl group alone. The 13C NMR chemical shifts of functional phenyl-mono- and -digermanes are given. The crystal structure of 1,2-bis(trichloroacetate)tetraphenyldigermane has been determined and refined to R = 0.048. The digermane bond is bridged by both acetates (distances GeGe 239.3(2), GeO 207.3(3) and 231.4(3) pm). The Ge atoms have trigonal bipyramidal coordination.
Synthesis, X‐ray Studies and Magnetic Properties of Dinuclear Ni II and Cu II Complexes Bridged by the Azo‐2,2′‐bipyridine Ligand
2003
Two new paramagnetic transition metal complexes that contain the bridging ligand azo-2,2-bipyridine (abpy) have been prepared and characterized by X-ray crystallography and magnetic susceptibility measurements. The compound [Ni2(µ-abpy)(CH3CN)2(NO3)4]·2CH3CN (1·2CH3CN) crystallizes in the triclinic space group P1 ¯ with a = 8.290(5) A u , b = 8.343(5) A u , c = 11.180(5) A u , α = 105.36(3)°, β = 94.39(3)°, γ = 107.56(3)°, V = 700.5(7) A u 3 and Z = 1.
