The cross-sectional area of the gluteus maximus muscle varies according to habitual exercise loading: Implications for activity-related and evolution…

2015

Greater size of the gluteus maximus muscle in humans compared to non-human primates has been considered an indication of its function in bipedal posture and gait, especially running capabilities. Our aim was to find out how the size of the gluteus maximus muscle varies according to sports while controlling for variation in muscle strength and body weight. Data on gluteus maximus muscle cross-sectional area (MCA) were acquired from magnetic resonance images of the hip region of female athletes (N=91), and physically active controls (N=20). Dynamic muscle force was measured as counter movement jump and isometric knee extension force as leg press. Five exercise loading groups were created: hig…

The concept of major depression. III. Concurrent validity of six competing operational definitions for the clinical ICD-9 diagnosis.

1991

The comparative validity of six operational diagnoses of major depression was evaluated in 600 psychiatric inpatients using the independently assessed clinical ICD-9 diagnoses as a yardstick. Agreement with, and positive predictive value for the ICD-9 categories of pure (endogenous and psychogenic) depression served as validation criteria; sensitivity of major depression diagnoses for detecting ICD-9 bipolar depressions was additionally used for examining the adequacy of width, time and exclusion criteria of the competing operational definitions. Three essential results were found. First, the "old" diagnostic definitions of RDC and FDC are superior to all newer definitions because they defi…

Childhood Maltreatment, Educational Attainment, and IQ: Findings From a Multicentric Case-control Study of First-episode Psychosis (EU-GEI).

2022

[Background and hypothesis] Evidence suggests that childhood maltreatment (ie, childhood abuse and childhood neglect) affects educational attainment and cognition. However, the association between childhood maltreatment and Intelligence Quotient (IQ) seems stronger among controls compared to people with psychosis. We hypothesised that: the association between childhood maltreatment and poor cognition would be stronger among community controls than among people with first-episode of psychosis (FEP); compared to abuse, neglect would show stronger associations with educational attainment and cognition; the association between childhood maltreatment and IQ would be partially accounted for by ot…

AbstractBackgroundThe value of the nosological distinction between non-affective and affective psychosis has frequently been challenged. We aimed to investigate the transdiagnostic dimensional structure and associated characteristics of psychopathology at First Episode Psychosis (FEP). Regardless of diagnostic categories, we expected that positive symptoms occurred more frequently in ethnic minority groups and in more densely populated environments, and that negative symptoms were associated with indices of neurodevelopmental impairment.MethodThis study included 2182 FEP individuals recruited across six countries, as part of the EUropean network of national schizophrenia networks studying G…

Use of multiple Polygenic Risk Scores for distinguishing Schizophrenia-spectrum disorder and Affective psychosis categories; the EUGEI study

2021

ABSTRACTSchizophrenia (SZ), Bipolar Disorder (BD) and Depression (D) run in families. This susceptibility is partly due to hundreds or thousands of common genetic variants, each conferring a fractional risk. The cumulative effects of the associated variants can be summarised as a polygenic risk score (PRS). Using data from the EUGEI case-control study, we aimed to test whether PRSs for three major psychiatric disorders (SZ, BD, D) and for intelligent quotient (IQ) as a neurodevelopmental proxy, can discriminate affective psychosis (AP) from schizophrenia-spectrum disorder (SSD). Participants (573 cases, 1005 controls) of european ancestry from 17 sites as part of the EUGEI study were succes…

PENERAPAN ANALISIS GEROMBOL DAN BIPLOT (STUDI KASUS: HASIL PERTANIAN DAERAH TERTINGGAL DI PROVINSI PAPUA BARAT)

2018

One of the potential of the seven districts underdeveloped areas in West Papua Province is agriculture. In order to develop agricultural potential, an overview of agricultural products is needed including the similarity of regional characteristics and the relative position of the region. The similarity of regional characteristics to agricultural product can be known by cluster analysis. The relative posistion of the area with agricultural  results is known by biplot analysis. Bintuni Bay Regency, South Sorong Regency, Tambrauw Regency and Maybrat Regency have the same characteristics in producing agriculture while Teluk Wondama Regency, Sorong Regency and Raja Ampat Regency have different c…

Dynamics of the general factor of personality: A predictor mathematical tool of alcohol misuse

2020

[EN] There are few studies developed about the general factor of personality (GFP) dynamics. This paper uses a dynamical mathematical model, the response model, to predict the short-term effects of a dose of alcohol on GFP and reports the results of an alcohol intake experiment. The GFP dynamical mechanism of change is based on the unique trait personality theory (UTPT). This theory proposes the existence of GFP, which occupies the apex of the hierarchy of personality. An experiment with 37 volunteers was performed. All the participants completed The five-adjective scale of the general factor of personality (GFP-FAS) in trait-format (GFP-T) and state-format (GFP-S) before alcohol consumptio…

Unravelling substitution effects on charge transfer characteristics in cocrystals of pyrene based donors and 3,5-dinitrobenzoic acid

2019

Here we report charge-transfer cocrystals composed of pyrene and amino/bromopyrene as π-donors (D) and 3,5-dinitrobenzoic acid (A) as a π-acceptor. The 1 : 1 cocrystals of pyrene/1-aminopyrene adopt a ⋯DADADA⋯ mixed stack arrangement whereas the 2 : 1 cocrystal of 1-bromopyrene and 3,5-dinitrobenzoic acid shows ⋯DDADDA⋯ stacking. Crystallographic, spectral and theoretical studies reveal that the frontier molecular orbital energy level rather than the π-donor strength plays the governing role in predicting charge transfer. In addition, a theoretical study demonstrates that the ambipolar semiconductor nature in cocrystals of the pyrene/aminopyrene donor and the p-type nature of bromopyrene wi…
