Periodic and quasi-periodic orbits of the dissipative standard map
2011
We present analytical and numerical investigations of the dynamics of the dissipative standard map. We first study the existence of periodic orbits by using a constructive version of the implicit function theorem; then, we introduce a parametric representation, which provides the interval of the drift parameter ensuring the existence of a periodic orbit with a given period. The determination of quasi--periodic attractors is efficiently obtained using the parametric representation combined with a Newton's procedure, aimed to reduce the error of the approximate solution provided by the parametric representation. These methods allow us to relate the drift parameter of the periodic orbits to th…
Histological evaluation of the effect of low-level laser on distraction osteogenesis in rabbit mandibles
2009
Objectives: This study evaluated the action of low level laser therapy (LLLT) on the percentage of newly formed bone in rabbit mandibles that underwent distraction osteogenesis (DO). Study design: Ten rabbits underwent bone lengthening according to the following protocol: Latency ? 3 days; Activation ? 7 days 0.7 mm/d; and Consolidation ? 10 days. The control group was composed of 4 rabbits. The experimental group, composed of 6 rabbits, received infrared GaAlAs LLLT (?=830 nm, P=40 mW) according to the following protocol: point dose of 10 J/cm2 applied directly on the bone site that underwent DO during bone consolidation at 48-hour intervals. Results: The percentage of newly formed bone wa…
Enhanced habit-based learning and decreased neurogenesis in the adult hippocampus in a murine model of chronic social stress
2009
Abstract Stress can induce preferential engagement of habit learning mediated by the basal ganglia, relative to learning that involves complex spatial associations contributed by the hippocampal formation. We explored in mice the influence that chronic episodes of social stress exert on the selection of cognitive/spatial vs. habit-based learning strategies. Male mice were exposed to repeated episodes of social confrontation and were categorized as dominant, subordinate or undetermined according to quantitative ethologically relevant parameters of aggression. Mice were then trained in a conditional discrimination task in the T-maze in the presence of allocentric cues until five correct choic…
Neuroendocrine responses in neonatal mother-deprived rabbits.
2009
To study both short- and long-term adaptation mechanisms activated by rabbits which were separated from their mothers (DLS) for 48 h between postnatal days 9 and 11, we examined plasma corticosterone concentrations before, during, and after DLS as well as the expression of glucocorticoid receptor (GR) in the hippocampus and the adrenal axis responses to a mild stress stimuli or exogenous ACTH injection. At postnatal day 10, plasma corticosterone concentration of DLS rabbits was similar to that of controls, but rose two-fold at day 11 (17.7 + or - 1.3 vs. 9.3 + or - 1.2 microg/dl, P0.01) and then decreased at day 12, when suckling was allowed again, to match those of controls with no differe…
In-situ forming gel-like depot of a polyaspartamide-polylactide copolymer for once a week administration of Sulpiride
2015
Abstract Objectives An in-situ forming gel-like depot, prepared by using an appropriate polyaspartamide-polylactide graft copolymer, has been employed to release in a sustained way sulpiride. Methods α,β-poly(N-2-hydroxyethyl)-D,L-aspartamide-g-polylactic acid (PHEA-g-PLA) has been used as a polymer component. Its physicochemical properties make possible to dissolve it in N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone, with the obtainment of a solution able to form a gel-like depot once injected into a physiological medium. Cell compatibility of PHEA-g-PLA depot has been investigated, using murine dermal fibroblasts as cell model. 3-(4,5-Dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-5-(3-carboxymethoxyphenyl)-2-(4-sulfophenyl)-2H-tetrazo…
Species-dependent stereospecific serum protein binding of the oral anticoagulant drug phenprocoumon
1978
13 mammalian species are classified into 3 clearcut groups with respect to the stereospecific serum protein-binding of phenprocoumon: 2 groups showing opposed stereospecific binding characteristics and a 3rd group exhibiting no stereospecific binding. Structural differences in the albumin molecule account for these stereospecific differences in serum protein-binding.
A novel methodology for accelerating bitstream relocation in partially reconfigurable systems
2012
International audience; Xilinx Virtex FPGAs offer the possibility of Partial Reconfiguration (PR). Arbitrary tasks can be allocated and de-allocated onto FPGA without system interruption. However, mapping a task to any available PR region requires a unique partial bitstream for each partition, hence reducing memory storage requirements. In recent years, an interest on overcoming this problem has lead to the concept of Partial Bitstream Relocation (PBR). The principle is to perform bitstream modification to map it to different regions. However, PBR consumes scarce resources in hardware implementations, and introduces a prohibitive time overhead when done in software. In order to find the bes…
Preserving entanglement and nonlocality in solid-state qubits by dynamical decoupling
2014
In this paper we study how to preserve entanglement and nonlocality under dephasing produced by classical noise with large low-frequency components, as $1/f$ noise, by Dynamical Decoupling techniques. We first show that quantifiers of entanglement and nonlocality satisfy a closed relation valid for two independent qubits locally coupled to a generic environment under pure dephasing and starting from a general class of initial states. This result allows to assess the efficiency of pulse-based dynamical decoupling for protecting nonlocal quantum correlations between two qubits subject to pure-dephasing local random telegraph and $1/f$-noise. We investigate the efficiency of an "entanglement m…
Educación Nutricional en la Escuela
2004
Activity in the rabbit somatosensory cortex reflects the active procedural memory trace of a classically conditioned eyeblink response.
2003
Behavioral responses and neural responses in the somatosensory cortex were recorded in nine rabbits during the unpaired and paired treatments of classical eyeblink conditioning with a tone conditioned stimulus (CS) and an airpuff unconditioned stimulus. During the unpaired treatment, neither the behavioral nor neural responses to the CS were observed. During the paired treatment, behavioral conditioned response (CR), accompanied by neural activity, was developed. In well-trained animals occasional failures to elicit the CR were accompanied by an absence of neural responses. Nevertheless, the CS modified the behavioral unconditioned response in paired trials, implying that the CR-failures co…
