Status of ITER TBM port plug conceptual design and analyses

2014

The test blanket module port plug (TBM PP) consists of a TBM frame and two TBM-sets. However, at any time of the ITER operation, a TBM set can be replaced by a dummy TBM. The frame provides a standardized interface with the vacuum vessel (VV)/port structure and provides thermal isolation from the shield blanket. As one of the plasma-facing components, it shall withstand heat loads while at the same time provide adequate neutron shielding for the VV and magnet coils. The frame design shall provide a stable engineering solution to hold TBM-sets and also provide a mean for rapid remote handling replacement and refurbishment. This paper presents main design features of the conceptual design of …

Aspects fonctionnels, structuraux et évolutifs de la réponse transcriptionnelle à l’auxine

2017

Auxin is a plant hormone implicated in almost all plant developmental stages, since the embryo formation till flowering, determining the position of the organs in the plant and thus, its whole structure. As for any other hormone, auxin perception is followed by a signal transduction that finishes in a series of changes in a plant cell, including transcriptional changes. This thesis is divided in 3 chapters, each with a focus on the structural, molecular and evolutionary aspects of different proteins involved in the regulation of auxin genes response.First, we focused our studies on TOPLESS (TPL), a co-repressor implicated, not only in auxin responsive genes repression, but also in many othe…

An epistatic mini-circuitry between the transcription factors Snail and HNF4α controls liver stem cell and hepatocyte features exhorting opposite reg…

2011

Preservation of the epithelial state involves the stable repression of epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition program, whereas maintenance of the stem compartment requires the inhibition of differentiation processes. A simple and direct molecular mini-circuitry between master elements of these biological processes might provide the best device to keep balanced such complex phenomena. In this work, we show that in hepatic stem cell Snail, a transcriptional repressor of the hepatocyte differentiation master gene HNF4α, directly represses the expression of the epithelial microRNAs (miRs)-200c and-34a, which in turn target several stem cell genes. Notably, in differentiated hepatocytes HNF4α, p…

Annotation of microsporidian genomes using transcriptional signals

2012

EA GenoSol CT3; International audience; High-quality annotation of microsporidian genomes is essential for understanding the biological processes that govern the development of these parasites. Here we present an improved structural annotation method using transcriptional DNA signals. We apply this method to re-annotate four previously annotated genomes, which allow us to detect annotation errors and identify a significant number of unpredicted genes. We then annotate the newly sequenced genome of Anncaliia algerae. A comparative genomic analysis of A. algerae permits the identification of not only microsporidian core genes, but also potentially highly expressed genes encoding membrane-asso…

Bleomycin induced pulmonary toxicity and its subpleural onset

2016

Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (PF) is a rare and devastating disease without efficient treatment at this time. Idiopathic FP is characterized by accumulation of myofibroblasts and has a typical sub-pleural onset suggesting a role of the pleura in the disease. Transforming Growth Factor (TGF)-ß1 induces transformation of pleural mesothelial cells (PMC) into active cells exhibiting myofibroblast phenotype. Heat shock proteins can act as regulator of the TGF-ß1 signaling. A role for caspase-1/IL-1ß axis has already been described in animal models of PF.The heat shock protein AlphaB-crystallin has been studied in PF at the PMC level and the importance of caspase-1/IL-1ß axis has been investigat…

A new rotational integral formula for intrinsic volumes in space forms

2010

A new rotational version of Crofton's formula is derived for the intrinsic volumes of a domain Y in a space form. More precisely, a functional is defined on the intersection between Y and a totally geodesic submanifold (plane) through a fixed point, such that the rotational average of this functional is equal to the intrinsic volumes of Y. Particular cases of interest in stereology are considered for the Euclidean case. © 2009 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

Portable central baffle flume

2022

This paper investigated the hydraulic characteristics of the triangular central baffle (TCB) flume. Laboratory tests were carried out to determine the flume dimensions. The field applicability of the proposed portable device was examined by on-farm installation. According to the laboratory tests, when the contraction ratio, r, was less than 0.39, the flow capacity was not affected by the ratio between the flume’s floor height and the throat width. The laboratory analysis also showed that there was no significant effect of installing an entrance ramp on the stage-discharge relationship for r<0.39, while the entrance ramp increased the discharge capacity for r>0.39. The stage-discharge …

Death receptors as targets in cancer

2014

Anti-tumour therapies based on the use PARAs (pro-apoptotic receptor agonists), including TRAIL (TNF-Related Apoptosis inducing Ligand) or monoclonal antibodies targeting TRAIL-R1 or TRAIL-R2, have been disappointing so far, despite clear evidence of clinical activity and lack of adverse events for the vast majority of these compounds, whether combined or not with conventional or targeted anti-cancer therapies. This brief review aims at discussing the possible reasons for the lack of apparent success of these therapeutic approaches and at providing hints in order to rationally design optimal protocols based on our current understanding of TRAIL signalling regulation or resistance for future…

Suspended particulate matter fluxes along with their associated metals, organic matter and carbonates in a coastal Mediterranean area affected by min…

2016

International audience; A study of suspended particulate matter (SPM) fluxes along with their associated metals, organic matter and carbonates, was conducted off the Mejerda River outlet in May 2011 and in March and July 2012 at depths of 10, 20 and 40 m using sediment traps. SPM fluxes are more significant near the Mejerda outlet, especially in winter, but dissipate further offshore. Normalization reveals that the Mejerda is a major source of Pb, Zn, Cd, Cu, Ni, and Co, all of which are the result of human activities. In contrast, Fe, Mn and N are of authigenic origin. The enrichment factor shows that Pb, Zn and especially Cd are the most highly polluting metals off the Mejerda outlet. Thi…
