Pressure dependence in the methyl vinyl ketone + OH and methacrolein + OH oxidation reactions: an electronic structure study.
2005
High-level electronic structure calculations were carried out for the study of the reaction pathways in the OH-initiated oxidations of methyl vinyl ketone (MVK) and methacrolein (MACR). For the two conformers of MVK (called synperiplanar and antiperiplanar), the addition channels of OH to the terminal and central carbon atom of the double bond dominate the overall rate constant, whereas the abstraction of the methyl hydrogen atoms has no significant kinetic role. In the case of MACR, only the antiperiplanar conformer is important in its reactivity. In addition, the lower Gibbs free energy barrier for MACR corresponds to the aldehydic hydrogen abstraction reaction, which will be somewhat mor…
Lithium enediolates and dienediolates of carboxylic acids in synthesis: Alkylation with secondary halides
1998
Abstract High yields in the alkylation of dianions of α,β-unsaturated carboxylic acids with secondary halides can be obtained despite elimination reactions occurring. α-Regioselectivity for the alkylation of but-2-enoic acids ( 1–4 ) is seldom obtained. Although double bond stereoselectivity is higher than 99% for γ-alkylated products, stereoselectivity is rather poor for most of the α-alkylated products.
Direct observation of a borane-silane complex involved in frustrated Lewis-pair-mediated hydrosilylations.
2014
Perfluorarylborane Lewis acids catalyse the addition of silicon-hydrogen bonds across C=C, C=N and C=O double bonds. This 'metal-free' hydrosilylation has been proposed to occur via borane activation of the silane Si-H bond, rather than through classical Lewis acid/base adducts with the substrate. However, the key borane/silane adduct had not been observed experimentally. Here it is shown that the strongly Lewis acidic, antiaromatic 1,2,3-tris(pentafluorophenyl)-4,5,6,7-tetrafluoro-1-boraindene forms an observable, isolable adduct with triethylsilane. The equilibrium for adduct formation was studied quantitatively through variable-temperature NMR spectroscopic investigations. The interactio…
Structure and properties of N-methyl-N-(4-pyridyl)-nitramine and 1,4-dihydro-1-methyl-4-nitriminopyridine
2002
Abstract The molecular structure and spectral properties of N -methyl- N -(4-pyridyl)-nitramine ( 1 ) and 1,4-dihydro-1-methyl-4-nitriminopyridine ( 3 ) were investigated by the X-ray diffraction, FTIR, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) methods and DFT theoretical calculations. N -methyl- N -(4-pyridyl)-nitramine ( 1 ) crystallises in the orthorhombic Pbca space group. It is composed of two planar fragments; nitramino (N 2 O 2 ) group and the pirydyl ring. These two groups are twisted at about 70° with respect to each other, along the Ar–N bond. On the contrary, in compound 3 , they are coplanar to each other. Twist of the nitramino group in 1 with respect to the pirydyl ring leads to a sign…
On the regioselectivity of the Friedländer reaction leading to huprines: stereospecific acid-promoted isomerization of syn-huprines to their anti-reg…
2001
Abstract Racemic 12-amino-6,7,8,11-tetrahydro-7,11-methanocycloocta[ b ]quinoline derivatives ( syn -huprines) substituted at the 9-position with a methyl or ethyl group, and both enantioenriched forms of the 9-ethyl derivative, obtained by chiral MPLC resolution of the racemic mixture, were readily converted to the corresponding anti -isomers (huprines) by stereospecific acid-promoted (AlCl 3 or triflic acid) isomerization of the endocyclic CC double bond from the 9(10)- to the 8(9)-position. These results support the hypothesis that the hitherto unseen syn -huprines are also formed under the usual acidic Friedlander reaction conditions used to prepare the known huprines, but rearrange in…
High Enantiocontrol in the Intramolecular Cyclopropanation of Diazo Ketones Catalyzed by Dirhodium(II) Complexes with Ortho-Metalated Aryl Phosphine …
2001
[reaction: see text]. Chiral dirhodium(II) complexes, Rh2(O2CCF3)2(PC)2, [PCH = (p-CH3C6H4)3P, (m-CH3C6H4)3P], provide an excellent yield and a high enantiocontrol in the cyclopropanation of alpha-diazo ketones with gamma and delta double bonds. The ee values are significantly dependent on the solvent used; the best results are obtained using pentane.
The conformation cis of N-acetyl-N-methyl-α,β-dehydroalanine N′-methylamide and saturated analogues
2007
A series of three homologous amino acids derivatives: N-acetyl-N-methyl-α,β–dehydroalanine N′-methylamide (1), N-acetyl-N-methyl-L-alanine N′-methylamide (2), and N-acetyl-N-methyl-DL-alanine N′-methylamide have been synthesised. The racemic species undergoes spontaneous separation into L and D-enantiomers. From these two chiral forms, the structure of L-enantiomer (3) was analysed. The molecules of 1 – 3 adopt the cis arrangement of the N-terminal amide bond. The molecular conformations are similar for 1 (φ, ψ = 94.6(1)°, −1.7(1)°) and 3 (φ, ψ = 111.5(1)°, −23.8(1)°), and also 2 (φ, ψ = −114.8(2)°, 29.5(2)°), if inversion through the chiral C2 carbon is considered. They are stabilised by i…

(Z)-Ethyl 2-oxo-3-(1,2-dihydroquinolin-2-ylidene)propanoate
2010
Both independent molecules in the asymmetric unit of the tautomeric title compound, C14H13NO3, a synthetic product obtained from 2-lithiomethylquinoline and diethyl oxalate, crystallize in the enaminone form with a Z configuration around the double bond. Intramolecular N—H...O hydrogen bonds occur, generating an S(6) graph-set motif. In the crystal, weak intermolecular C—H...O and π–π stacking interactions [centroid–centroid distances = 3.7020 (14)–3.7429 (13)Å] define a three-dimensional supramolecular network.
Interaction Mechanisms between guaiacols and lignin: the conjugated double bond makes the difference.
2011
Lignin is considered to be responsible for a selective sorption of phenolic compounds on wood. In order to investigate the mechanisms involved, two similar guaiacol compounds--only differing by the nature of the para side chain--were adsorbed on oak wood extracted lignin. Vapor sorption-desorption isotherms indicated that about 3.5 wt % of 4-vinylguaiacol is adsorbed near saturation whereas it is only 0.8% for 4-ethylguaiacol. For both compounds, the isotherms displayed a hysteresis though significantly greater for 4-vinylguaiacol. Analyses of the hydroxyl stretching region of FTIR spectra of the lignin/4-ethylguaiacol and lignin/4-vinylguaiacol complexes indicated that physisorption via hy…
