Photochemical Transformations of Some Neoclerodane and Labdane Diterpene Ketones
1999
Some neoclerodane (2–4) and labdane (5 and 6) diterpene ketones having a β- or γ-hydroxy function, an α-epoxy group, or an α-olefinic double bond have been irradiated at λ = 313 nm in dry solvents (benzene or methanol). Fruticolone (2) yielded the naturally occurring 5,6-seco-neoclerodan-6,1α-olide derivative fruticolide (1), while hispanolone (5) gave the δ-lactone 8, both transformations involving a Norrish type I photoreaction. The α,β-unsaturated ketone derivative 4 was transformed into 7 by a stereoselective intramolecular [2+2] cycloaddition reaction involving its furanic 13(16)-double bond. Finally, the α-epoxy ketone 6 was rearranged to the 10(98)abeo-labda-7,9-dione derivative 10. …
2-(4-Fluorophenyl)-1-(4-pyridyl)cyclopentan-1-ol
2007
The crystal structure of the title compound, C16H16FNO, was determined as part of a study of the biological activity of pyridine-substituted cyclopentene derivatives as p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) inhibitors. The 4-fluorophenyl and 4-pyridyl rings are trans positioned with respect to each other. The compound exists as a racemic mixture. The synthesis was achieved via direct interaction between the reactive complex Grignard reagent PyMgCl·LiCl and the enolizable ketone 4-fluorophenylcyclopentanone with the assistance of the neodymium salt catalyst NdCl3·2LiCl. The crystal packing is characterized by zigzag chains of molecules, which are connected by O—H⋯N hydrogen bon…
Neue extrem deformierte (Biphenylen‐)Kohlenwasserstoff‐Gerüste
1992
New Extremely Deformed (Biphenylene)Hydrocarbon Skeletons The tetracyclic carbon skeleton 2-oxo[3](1,8)biphenylenophane (4) was synthesized by cyclization of a mixture of the bis(bromomethyl) compounds 7a, b with p-tolylsulfonylmethyl isocyanide. 2-Hydroxy[3](1,8)biphenylenophane (5) and the [3](1,8)biphenylenophane hydrocarbon 6 were obtained by reduction of 4 with LiAlH4 and NaBH4, respectively. X-ray analyses of 4 and 6 illustrate the dramatic deformation of bond lengths and angles in these molecules.
The water association band as a marker of hydrogen bonds in trehalose amorphous matrices
2017
The relevant role played by residual water in modulating the dynamics and structure of a protein, a matrix and their coupling has been thoroughly studied in bioprotective amorphous saccharide matrices via experiments and simulations. In order to better characterize this residual water and the hydrogen bond structures in which it is involved, in this work infrared spectroscopy experiments are conducted on trehalose-water systems. The properties of water are inferred from the study of a peculiar infrared band, the water association band, which we exploited as a marker of the hydrogen bonds in which water is involved. Our aim was the identification of populations of water molecules, which give…
Properties of Hydrophobic Polymer Melts Tethered to the Water Surface As Determined with in Situ X-ray Reflectivity
1997
Insoluble monolayers of hydrophobic polymers with low glass transition temperature (perfluoropolyethers, polyisoprenes) and a single ionic head group (carboxylic acid, sulfonate) have been characterized at the air/water interface via X-ray reflectivity measurements. The films are considerably thicker (30−420 A) than conventional Langmuir monolayers of low molecular weight substances or polymers with surface active repeat units. The thickness is inversely proportional to the area per head group and is in accordance with a model assuming a solvent-free hydrophobic layer of the same density as the bulk material.
Slow magnetic relaxation in a hydrogen-bonded 2D array of mononuclear dysprosium(III) oxamates.
2013
The reaction of N-(2,6-dimethylphenyl)oxamic acid with dysprosium(III) ions in a controlled basic media afforded the first example of a mononuclear lanthanide oxamate complex exhibiting a field-induced slow magnetic relaxation behavior typical of single-ion magnets (SIMs). The hydrogen-bond-mediated self-assembly of this new bifunctional dysprosium(III) SIM in the solid state provides a unique example of 2D hydrogen-bonded polymer with a herringbone net topology.
Covalently bonded layer-by-layer assembly of multifunctional thin films based on activated esters.
2009
We demonstrate that chemically stable, multifunctional polymer thin films can be obtained using the layer-by-layer (LbL) deposition based on covalent bonds between adsorbing chains. Poly(pentafluorophenyl-4-vinylbenzoate) (P1) or poly(pentafluorophenylacrylate) (P2) polymers were assembled with poly(allyl amine) (PAAm) to yield LbL multilayer films through amide bond formation by the reaction between activated esters of P1 or P2 and amine groups in PAAm, which was quantitatively monitored by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). It was found that the difference in the solubility of P1 and P2 against ethanol, which was used as the solvent for PAAm, during the LbL deposition yields…
Structural Rearrangements in Triple-Decker-Like Complexes with Mixed Group 15/16 Ligands: Synthesis and Characterization of the Redox Couple [Cp2*Fe2…
2001
The reaction of As4Se4 with stoichiometric amounts of [Cp*Fe2(CO)4] (Cp* = C5Me5) in boiling toluene forms [Cp2*Fe2As2Se2] (1) in good yield. X-ray crystallography shows 1 to have a triple-decker structure which comprises a tetraatomic mu,eta4:4-As2Se2 ligand. Density functional theory (DFT) and extended Huckel molecular orbital (EHMO) calculations confirm that the As2Se2 ligand behaves as a four-electron pi donor. Oxidation of 1 with equimolar amounts of [(C5H5)2Fe]PF6, Br2 and I2, respectively, gave compounds 2-4. According to X-ray crystallographic investigations that were carried out on 2 and 4, the oxidation state has a considerable influence on the structure of the Fe2As2Se2 core: sig…
Role of C–H···Au and Aurophilic Supramolecular Interactions in Gold–Thione Complexes
2014
The role of noncovalent gold–hydrogen and aurophilic interactions in the formation of extended molecular systems of gold complexes was studied. Three new gold compounds with a heterocyclic thione ligand N-methylbenzothiazole-2-thione (mbtt), namely, [AuCl(mbtt)] (1), [AuBr(mbtt)] (2), and [Au(mbtt)2][AuI2]1–n[I3]n (3), were synthesized and characterized. The halide ligand had a considerable effect on the complex structures and thus to noncovalent contacts. Intermolecular C–H···Au and aurophilic Au···Au contacts were the dominant noncovalent interactions in structures 1–3 determining the supramolecular arrays of the gold complexes. In 1 and 2, unusual intermolecular C–H···Au gold–hydrogen co…
Influence of Cl/Br substitution on the stereochemical peculiarities of copper(I) pi-complexes with the 1-allyl-2-aminopyridinium cation.
2003
By using alternating-current electrochemical synthesis, crystals of the CuI π-complexes bis(1-allyl-2-aminopyridinium) di-μ-chloro-bis[chlorocopper(I)], (C8H11N2)2[Cu2Cl4] or [H2NC5H4NC3H5][CuCl2], and bis(1-allyl-2-aminopyridinium) di-μ-(chloro/bromo)-bis[(chloro/bromo)copper(I)], (C8H11N2)2[Cu2Br2.2Cl1.8] or [H2NC5H4NC3H5][CuBr1.10Cl0.90], have been obtained and structurally investigated. In each of the isostructural (isomorphous) compounds, the distorted tetrahedral Cu environment involves three halide atoms and the C=C bond of the ligand. Both compounds reside on inversion centres, and the dimeric [Cu2 X 4·2H2NC5H4NC3H5] units are bonded into a three-dimensional structure by N—H...X hyd…
