Spin and charge currents driven by the Higgs mode in high-field superconductors
2020
The Higgs mode in superconducting materials describes slowly decaying oscillations of the order parameter amplitude. We demonstrate that in superconductors with a built-in spin-splitting field the Higgs mode is strongly coupled to the spin degrees of freedom, allowing for the generation of time-dependent spin currents. Converting such spin currents to electric signals by spin-filtering elements provides a tool for the second-harmonic generation and the electrical detection of the Higgs mode generated by the external irradiation. The nonadiabatic spin torques generated by these spin currents allow for the magnetic detection of the Higgs mode by measuring the precession of the magnetic moment…
Limits on a muon flux from Kaluza-Klein dark matter annihilations in the Sun from the IceCube 22-string detector
2010
A search for muon neutrinos from Kaluza-Klein dark matter annihilations in the Sun has been performed with the 22-string configuration of the IceCube neutrino detector using data collected in 104.3 days of live-time in 2007. No excess over the expected atmospheric background has been observed. Upper limits have been obtained on the annihilation rate of captured lightest Kaluza-Klein particle (LKP) WIMPs in the Sun and converted to limits on the LKP-proton cross-sections for LKP masses in the range 250 -- 3000 GeV. These results are the most stringent limits to date on LKP annihilation in the Sun.
Variational Bethe ansatz approach for dipolar one-dimensional bosons
2020
We propose a variational approximation to the ground state energy of a one-dimensional gas of interacting bosons on the continuum based on the Bethe Ansatz ground state wavefunction of the Lieb-Liniger model. We apply our variational approximation to a gas of dipolar bosons in the single mode approximation and obtain its ground state energy per unit length. This allows for the calculation of the Tomonaga-Luttinger exponent as a function of density and the determination of the structure factor at small momenta. Moreover, in the case of attractive dipolar interaction, an instability is predicted at a critical density, which could be accessed in lanthanide atoms.
Scaling behavior of Tan's contact for trapped Lieb-Liniger bosons: From two to many
2018
We show that the contact parameter of N harmonically trapped interacting one-dimensional bosons at zero temperature can be analytically and accurately obtained by a simple rescaling of the exact two-boson solution, and that N-body effects can be almost factorized. The small deviations observed between our analytical results and density matrix renormalization group (DMRG) calculations are more pronounced when the interaction energy is maximal (i.e., at intermediate interaction strengths) but they remain bounded by the large-N local-density approximation obtained from the Lieb-Liniger equation of state stemming from the Bethe ansatz. The rescaled two-body solution is so close to the exact one…
Coherent superposition of current flows in an atomtronic quantum interference device
2015
We consider a correlated Bose gas tightly confined into a ring shaped lattice, in the presence of an artificial gauge potential inducing a persistent current through it. A weak link painted on the ring acts as a source of coherent back-scattering for the propagating gas, interfering with the forward scattered current. This system defines an atomic counterpart of the rf-SQUID: the atomtronics quantum interference device (AQUID). The goal of the present study is to corroborate the emergence of an effective two-level system in such a setup and to assess its quality, in terms of its inner resolution and its separation from the rest of the many-body spectrum, across the different physical regime…
Single vector boson production in e(+)e(-) collisions at centre-of-mass energies from 183 to 209 GeV
2005
The cross sections for single vector boson production in the Wenu and Zee channels are measured from the data collected by AA the ALEPH detector at LEP for centre-of-mass energies between 183 and 209 GeV. These data correspond to a total integrated luminosity of 683 pb(-1). Single-W production is studied in both hadronic and leptonic decay channels. Hadronic and dimuon decays are used for single-Z production. The measured cross sections agree with the Standard Model predictions.
Features of W production in p-p, p-Pb and Pb-Pb collisions
2017
We consider the production of inclusive W bosons in variety of high-energy hadronic collisions: p--p, p--$\overline{\rm p}$, p--Pb, and Pb--Pb. In particular, we focus on the resulting distributions of charged leptons from W decay that can be measured with relatively low backgrounds. The leading-order expressions within the collinearly factorized QCD indicate that the center-of-mass energy dependence at forward/backward rapidities should be well approximated by a simple power law. The scaling exponent is related to the small-$x$ behaviour of the quark distributions, which is largely driven by the parton evolution. An interesting consequence is the simple scaling law for the lepton charge as…
Search for pair production of first or second generation leptoquarks in proton-proton collisions at sqrt(s)=7 TeV using the ATLAS detector at the LHC
2011
This paper describes searches for the pair production of first or second generation scalar leptoquarks using 35 pb−1 of proton-proton collision data recorded by the ATLAS detector at √s=7 TeV. Leptoquarks are searched in events with two oppositely-charged muons or electrons and at least two jets, and in events with one muon or electron, missing transverse momentum and at least two jets. After event selection, the observed yields are consistent with the predicted backgrounds. Leptoquark production is excluded at the 95% CL for masses MLQ<376 (319) GeV and MLQ<422 (362) GeV for first and second generation scalar leptoquarks, respectively, when assuming the branching fraction of a leptoquark…
Cross section and longitudinal single-spin asymmetry AL for forward W±→μ±ν production in polarized p+p collisions at √s = 510 GeV
2018
We have measured the cross section and single-spin asymmetries from forward W ± → μ ± ν production in longitudinally polarized p + p collisions at √ s = 510 GeV using the PHENIX detector at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider. The cross sections are consistent with previous measurements at this collision energy, while the most forward and backward longitudinal single spin asymmetries provide new insights into the sea quark helicities in the proton. The charge of the W bosons provides a natural flavor separation of the participating partons. peerReviewed
More mathematics on pseudo-bosons
2013
We propose an alternative definition for pseudo-bosons. This simplifies the mathematical structure, minimizing the required assumptions. Some physical examples are discussed, as well as some mathematical results related to the biorthogonal sets arising out of our framework. We also briefly extend the results to the so-called nonlinear pseudo-bosons.
