International audience; (résumé archéozoologie) Le site de Tagnon "La Fricassée" a livré plus de six mille cinq cents restes animaux, la plupart très bien conservés, mais fragmentés, ce qui explique que les 2928 fragments déterminés (soit 44,4% du nombre total) représentent plus de 90% du poids total (40 sur 44 kilos). Cette abondance de menus fragments (le poids moyen d'un indéterminé est d'environ un gramme) témoigne de la minutie de la collecte. Leur excellent état de conservation a permis d'enregistrer les traces de dents, de découpe, la fragmentation et les brûlures, en vue de mettre en évidence des traitements spécifiques et d'éventuelles zones d'activités. Étude d'inclusions végétales dans des tessons de poterie ou des matériaux de construction

Vegetal inclusions embedded in clayey materials (cob, ceramic, mudbrick) are investigated by using impregnation of the porous material with a fluorescent polymer. The micro-casting of the porosity is exploited by following two ways. Sections of the treated samples are examined under UV-light, showing vegetal structures amenable to a botanical identification and quantification. Moreover, micro-casts embedded in the mineral matrix have been successfully sorted. This new application is a tool to study archaeological samples previously not amenable to the work of archaeobotanists and to expand their field of investigation.

The dry stone wall of 'Paretone dei Greci': an anthracological approach

International audience; Dry stone constructions are a common occurrence in many Mediterranean landscapes. One of these structures known as "Paretone dei Greci" (Taranto, Southern Italy), was subject to an archaeological investigation. Soil and sediment material within this wall, as well as those above and below it, were sampled and processed for archaeobotanical studies. In this manner it was possible to understand its building technique as well as giving it a chronological context. Through an anthracological analysis it was possible to insert the "Paretone" within the surrounding agricultural landscape, thus better highlighting its function in relation to the history of the territory

Since the 1990s, preventive archaeology has brought to light an abundance of documentation in the western part of Champagne (the "chalky" Champagne) which now makes it possible to define the nature of rural settlements from the late Iron Age and Roman times. Unlike the neighbouring regions of Burgundy or Picardy, where excavations and aerial prospecting had revealed the presence of numerous enclosed grave sites then attributed to the end of La Tène and masonry settlements of all sizes dating back to Roman times, these data were previously lacking in Champagne.
