Rhodamine (B) photocatalysis under solar light on high crystalline ZnO films grown by home-made DC sputtering

Abstract ZnO thin films were deposited by home-made DC sputtering of zinc target under mixed gases (Argon, Oxygen) plasma on glass substrates. Films were deposited by varying oxygen partial pressure (PO2) from 0.09 to 1.3 mbar in the deposition chamber, at a fixed substrate temperature of 100 °C. The samples were characterized by photoluminescence (PL), X-ray diffraction (XRD), optical transmissions (UV–vis), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and electrical (Hall effect) measurements. Low-temperature luminescence of catangasite single crystals under excitation by vacuum ultraviolet synchrotron radiation

The luminescent properties of Ca3TaGa3Si2O14 (CTGS, catangasite) single crystals have been studied by means of the vacuum ultraviolet excitation spectroscopy utilizing synchrotron radiation from 1.5 GeV storage ring of MAX IV synchrotron facility. Two emission bands at 320 nm (3.87 eV) and 445 nm (2.78 eV) have been detected. Examining excitation spectra in vacuum ultraviolet spectral range, the 320 nm emission band was explained as the emission band of self-trapped exciton in CTGS single crystal. Its atomic structure is discussed. It is also proposed that the 445 nm (2.78 eV) emission in the CTGS is due to the F centers, which have shown a well-resolved excitation (absorption) band at 5.1 …
Rock-salt CdZnO as a transparent conductive oxide

Transparent conducting oxides (TCOs) are widely used in applications from solar cells to light emitting diodes. Here, we show that the metal organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD)-grown, rock-salt CdZnO ternary, has excellent potential as a TCO. To assess this compound, we use a combination of infrared reflectance and ultraviolet-visible absorption spectroscopies, together with Hall effect, to determine its optical and electrical transport characteristics. It is found that the incorporation of Zn produces an increment of the electron concentration and mobility, yielding lower resistivities than those of CdO, with a minimum of 1.96 × 10 − 4 Ω · cm for a Zn content of 10%. High pressure theoretical and experimental analysis of the bandgap of BaMoO4, PbMoO4, and CdMoO4

We have investigated the origin of the bandgap of BaMoO4, PbMoO4, and CdMoO4 crystals on the basis of optical absorption spectroscopy experiments and ab initio electronic band structure, density of states, and electronic localization function calculations under high pressure. Our study provides an accurate determination of the bandgaps Eg and their pressure derivatives d E g / dP for BaMoO4 (4.43 eV, −4.4 meV/GPa), PbMoO4 (3.45 eV, −53.8 meV/GPa), and CdMoO4 (3.71 eV, −3.3 meV/GPa). The absorption edges were fitted with the Urbach exponential model which we demonstrate to be the most appropriate for thick crystals with direct bandgaps. Effect of oxidation post treatments on TiO2 coating manufactured using reactive very low-pressure plasma spraying (R-VLPPS)

Abstract TiO2 coatings manufactured using reactive very low-pressure plasma spraying (R-VLPPS) were analyzed in different regions related to their position compared to the plasma flame. For that, a screen was used in order to hide an area of the substrate from the direct plasma flux. The coating morphology changed from quasi lamellar structure to highly vapor structure and coatings exhibited obvious modifications in terms of phases and mechanical properties. Comparison of the F-type center thermal annealing in heavy-ion and neutron irradiated Al2O3 single crystals

Abstract The optical absorption and thermally stimulated luminescence of Al2O3 (sapphire) single crystals irradiated with swift heavy ions (SHI) 238U with energy 2.4 GeV is studied with the focus on the thermal annealing of the F-type centers in a wide temperature range of 400–1500 K. Its theoretical analysis allows us to obtain activation energies and pre-exponentials of the interstitial oxygen ion migration, which recombine with both types of immobile electron centers (F and F+ centers). A comparison of these kinetics parameters with literature data for a neutron-irradiated sapphire shows their similarity and thus supports the use of SHI-irradiation for modeling the neutron irradiation.
Stopping cross-section measurements of 4He in TiN1.1O0.27

Abstract The stopping cross-section for 4He projectiles in TiNx compounds has been measured using the backscattering method. A multi-compound marker layer deposited between the test film and the substrate was used to obtain the stopping cross-section at several energies with one energy of the incident beam. Two RBS spectra at definite tilt angles of the sample are taken for each beam energy. The assistance of computer codes to synthesize RBS spectra is very useful to obtain the pertinent information from the displacements of the peaks of the marker layers. Stopping cross-section values are obtained with an estimated uncertainty of about 6%.
