Water needs of production of biomass for energy in Poland
2009
The paper presents the updates of Polish government policy , showing legal and financial instruments for governing the bioenergy developments. The strategy for renewable energy must be co-ordinated with the strategy of water management in a country. The water needs are given for cool climate and extensive agriculture of Central and Eastern Europe. They are a few times lower than for hotter condition of Southern Europe. Despite this the rain would be not enough for water supply of most of the energy crops.
Microremains from El Mirón Cave human dental calculus suggest a mixed plant/animal subsistence economy during the Magdalenian in Northern Iberia
2015
Abstract Despite more than a century of detailed investigation of the Magdalenian period in Northern Iberia, our understanding of the diets during this period is limited. Methodologies for the reconstruction of Late Glacial subsistence strategies have overwhelmingly targeted animal exploitation, thus revealing only a portion of the dietary spectrum. Retrieving food debris from calculus offers a means to provide missing information on other components of diet. We undertook analysis of human dental calculus samples from Magdalenian individuals (including the “Red Lady”) at El Miron Cave (Cantabria, Spain), as well as several control samples, to better understand the less visible dietary compo…
New Insights into the Provenance of the Obsidian Fragments of the Island of Ustica (Palermo, Sicily)
2017
In this study we applied a multidisciplinary approach, coupling geophysical and geochemical measurements, to unveil the provenance of 170 obsidian flakes, collected on the volcanic island of Ustica (Sicily). On this island there are some prehistoric settlements dated from the Neolithic to the Middle Bronze Age. Despite not having geological outcrops of obsidian rocks, the countryside of Ustica is rich in fragments of this volcanic glass, imported from other source areas. The study of obsidian findings was carried out first through visual observations and density measurements. At least two different obsidian families have been distinguished, probably imported from Lipari and Pantelleria isla…
Obsidians of Pantelleria (Strait of Sicily): A Petrographic, Geochemical and Magnetic Study of Known and New Geological Sources
2020
Abstract This paper provides new petrochemical and paleomagnetic data from obsidian sub-sources on the island of Pantelleria, exploited since the Neolithic. Data has been obtained from 14 obsidian samples from 4 locations: Fossa della Pernice (2 sites), Salto la Vecchia and Balata dei Turchi. Here, we aim to better characterize these obsidians using a cross-disciplinary and multi-analytical approach, to further understand their archaeological significance. Major element analyses (EMP) have enabled two compositional super-groups to be distinguished: (i) Fossa della Pernice, less peralkaline and (ii) Balata dei Turchi–Salto la Vecchia, distinctly more peralkaline and having almost identical c…
Centrālo venozo katetru aprūpes protokola izstrāde un ieviešana stacionārā
2015
Maģistra darbs sastāv no 9 nod…
The Neapolitan Yellow Tuff caldera offshore the Campi Flegrei: Stratal architecture and kinematic reconstruction during the last 15 ky
2014
In this study we integrate high-resolution swath bathymetry, single channel reflection seismic data and gravity core data, to provide new insights into the shallow structure and latest Quaternary to Holocene evolution of the submerged sector of the Neapolitan Yellow Tuff (NYT) caldera (Campi Flegrei) in the Pozzuoli Bay. The new data allow for a reconstruction of the offshore geometry of the NYT caldera collapse-ring fault system, along with the style and timing of deformation of the inner caldera resurgence. Our interpretation shows that the NYT eruption (~. 15. ka BP) was associated with a caldera collapse bounded by an inward-dipping ring fault system. The ring fault system consists in a …
An Update of the Evolving Epidemic of blaKPC Carrying Klebsiella pneumoniae in Sicily, Italy, 2014: Emergence of Multiple Non-ST258 Clones
2015
Background: In Italy, Klebsiella pneumoniae carbapenemase producing K. pneumoniae (KPC-Kp) strains are highly endemic and KPC producing CC258 is reported as the widely predominating clone. In Palermo, Italy, previous reports have confirmed this pattern. However, recent preliminary findings suggest that an epidemiological change is likely ongoing towards a polyclonal KPC-Kp spread. Here we present the results of molecular typing of 94 carbapenem non susceptible K. pneumoniae isolates detected during 2014 in the three different hospitals in Palermo, Italy. Methods and Results: Ninety-four consecutive, non replicate carbapenem non susceptible isolates were identified in the three largest acute…
One My scale subsidence of carbonate sedimentary bodies and the viscosity of the lower crust
2004
Abstract The possibility of flow of the lower crust under the load produced by carbonate sedimentary accumulations is investigated through the example of the Paris basin during the Middle Jurassic (i.e. Bathonian). Depositional geometries, water depths and sedimentary environments have been estimated and correlated for 164 sites spread over a surface of 380 per 220 km for three successive periods lasting each less than 0.8 My. A signal of relative vertical displacement has been extracted from water-depth and sedimentary thickness. Data have then been interpolated to produce maps of velocity of vertical displacement, sedimentation rate, water depth, and water-depth variation between two peri…
Analyzing central-line associated bloodstream infection prevention bundles in 22 countries: The results of ID-IRI survey
2022
International audience; BACKGROUND: Because central line-associated bloodstream infections (CLABSIs) are a significant complication of central venous access, it is critical to prevent CLABSIs through the use of central line bundles. The purpose of this study was to take a snapshot of central venous access bundles in various countries. METHODS: The participants in intensive care units (ICUs) completed a questionnaire that included information about the health center, infection control procedures, and central line maintenance. The countries were divided into 2 groups: those with a low or low-middle income and those with an upper-middle or high income. RESULTS: Forty-three participants from 22…
La cattedrale di Alghero. Note e ipotesi sul primo progetto
2012
The Cathedral of Alghero presents numerous unresolved historiographical problems. This essay proposes a recostruction of the building history from the first half of the sixteenth century and until it underwent a radical break around 1560. Starting from the surviving traces in the apsidal area and from the analysis of the context, the aurìthor proposes a recostruction of the first project and outlinesa plausible partecipation of architectural masters of Valencia
