Medicinal plants have been used as a source of remedies since ancient times in Egypt. The present study was designed to investigate the antibacterial activity and the cytotoxicity of the organic extracts from 16 selected medicinal plants of Egypt. The study was also extended to the isolation of the antiproliferative compound jaeschkeanadiol p-hydroxybenzoate (FH-25) from Ferula hermonis. Over the past few decades, extensively drug resistant (XDR) resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae has become a notable burden to healthcare all over the world. Especially carbapenemase-producing strains are problematic due to their capability to withstand even last resort antibiotics. Aktualitāte: Antibakteriālā rezistence ir pasaules mēroga problēma, līdz ar to ir svarīgi meklēt jaunas iespējas infekciju ārstēšanai. Potenciāla alternatīva, iespējams, ir ēteriskās eļļas. Mērķis: Noteikt laboratorijā izdalīto E. coli un Klebsiella sugu jutību pret antibiotikām un ēteriskajām eļļām, izmantojot mikrobioloģisko metodi un statistisko apstrādi. Rezultāti: 242 E. coli un 214 Klebsiella paraugu vidū ESBL producē 7,85% E.coli un 11,21% Klebsiella spp. paraugi.
