A transaction cost analysis of staffing decisions in international operations
2005
Abstract This paper analyzes staffing decisions in foreign subsidiaries from the perspective of transaction cost theory. We focus on the ex post transaction costs of the employment relation. Specifically, we look at the monitoring, bonding, maladaptation, and bargaining costs of conducting activities in specific subsidiaries in a foreign country. We hypothesize that the transaction costs of using expatriates are lower than those generated by local employees, especially in the higher managerial echelons of foreign subsidiaries, but also that costs can be reduced as individuals become more experienced. We also conjecture that ex post transaction costs are influenced by cultural differences be…

Representation of the Student-Centred Learning Approach on University Website
2017
The topicality of the change of the educational paradigms in the national and global context forms a necessity and challenge for the higher education system to undergo the dynamic change in moving towards more individualised education process. The student-centred learning (SCL) approach as a topical form of implementation of the educational process conforms to the needs of contemporary society and as such advances growth at both individual as well as institutional level. The University website provides an insight into the implementation of the educational process by representing the mindset, values, and positions of individuals at the University. The aim of the research is to evaluate the r…

Valsts atbalsts subsidētās elektroenerģijas ražošanai un tā loma enerģētikas nozares attīstībā
2019
Straujie izaugsmes tempi pasaules ekonomikā ietekmē pasaules enerģētikas tirgu. Aktuāli kļūst divi enerģētikas pamatjautājumi – enerģētiskā atkarība un klimata pārmaiņas. Valstu valdības ar vien vairāk uzmanību pievērš atjaunojamiem energoresursiem jeb tā dēvētajai zaļajai enerģētikai. Eiropas Savienības dalībvalstis ir noteikušas savus individuālos mērķus atjaunojamo energoresursu izmantošanā, kuri atšķiras gan līdz šim izmantoto tehnoloģiju, gan valsts radīto atbalsta instrumentu efektivitātē. Maģistra darba mērķis ir analizēt Latvijas subsidētās elektroenerģijas ražošanas atbalsta sistēmas efektivitāti un izstrādāt priekšlikumus lietderīgākai atbalsta sistēmas radīšanai, lai veicinātu ta…

Tiešsaistes mārketinga pielietojums viesnīcā "NEIBURGS"
2017
Sources of Financing for Social Entrepreneurship
2021
The following chapter discusses the main forms of financing for social entrepreneurship. The ultimate goal of social entrepreneurship is to create social value. To this end, financial means act as intermediaries to achieve this goal. These means must be aligned with the mission, vision, and values of the new venture. Therefore, there must be certain parallelism in the modus operandi of the entrepreneurial companies and the institutions supporting their launch in the market with economic resources. Since social entrepreneurship arises as a new paradigm to create the business, its financing sources represent a new method to obtain economic resources. Ethical banking is the core concept of the…
Co‐parenting through subsidiaries: A model of value creation in the multinational firm
2017
Research summary We analyze a novel way to configure and manage multinational networks and propose a model of "co-parenting", characterized by the sharing of parenting roles and distribution of responsibilities between two units. We develop our argument around the notion of the springboard subsidiary, an operating subsidiary which assumes headquarters’ functions since it shares greater institutional closeness with both the headquarters’ country as well as with the host region. Based upon qualitative data, our inductive model revolves around three stages: establishment, consolidation and maturity, each of which reflects distinct roles and loci of decision making among the three actors involv…
