La diretta applicabilità dei trattati nell’ordinamento italiano: quo vadis?
2022
The concept of ‘direct applicability’ and ‘self-executing’ nature of international norms is still object of intense debate in the international legal scholarship. In Italy, such a debate has attracted new attention in the light of a recent ruling of the Joint Sections of the Court of Cassation, according to which the norms enshrined in the European Convention of Human Rights are not directly applicable in domestic proceedings. Such a statement seems to derive from some terminological and legal mis-understanding. By summarizing the conclusions of the several authors which have dealt with this issue in a Special Section of the review, the present article formulates some conclusions. First, it…
Conflict and the Evolution of Societies
2012
The Malthusian theory of evolution disregards a pervasive fact about human societies: they expand through conflict. When this is taken account of the long-run favors not a large population at the level of subsistence, nor yet institutions that maximize welfare or per capita output, but rather institutions that maximize free resources. These free resources are the output available to society after deducting the payments necessary for subsistence and for the incentives needed to induce production, and the other claims to production such as transfer payments and resources absorbed by elites. We develop the evolutionary underpinnings of this model, and examine the implications of free resource …

IT-Supported International Subsidiary Establishment Process for the Japanese Market: A Case Study on Finnish High Technology SMEs
2005
The large size of the Japanese IT market makes it attractive to and important for foreign high technology companies. However, the Japanese market is very challenging, highly competitive, and difficult to penetrate for foreign small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Most SMEs fail to penetrate into the Japanese market effectively by using modern IT-tools in the international subsidiary establishment process. No earlier in-depth empirical research exists on the IT-supported international subsidiary establishment process for this market. This study investigated and analyzed how a Finnish high technology SME implemented the ITsupported international subsidiary establishment process for the J…
A Conceptual Model for the IT-supported International Subsidiary Establishment Process
2004
This study examines how the IT-supported international subsidiary establishment process can be implemented. An in-depth literature review uncovered that there is a significant lack of literature to guide managers about how to execute the establishment process of a subsidiary through the support of various IT-tools. This study, by answering the research question “What are the phases in the establishment of a subsidiary through IT-support and how have the phases been executed?” introduces a conceptual model for the IT-supported international subsidiary establishment process. The research findings are useful for both practice and further research. peerReviewed
Kohti saavutettavaa verkkopalvelua
2011
Korjaamalla löydetyt puutteet verkkopalvelu saavuttaa World Wide Web Consortiumin julkaiseman Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.0 -ohjeistuksen A-tason. Tutkimuksen kohteena on Finanssivalvonnan verkkopalvelu. Tutkimusmenetelmänä käytetään World Wide Web Consortiumin Web Access Initiative -työryhmän kehittämää kattavaa arviointia. Arviointi jakaantuu arvioinnin laajuuden määrittelyyn…
Reconstruction of human subsistence and husbandry strategies from the Iberian Early Neolithic: A stable isotope approach
2018
Objectives The Early Neolithic involved an important social and economic shift that can be tested not only with the material culture, but also through biomolecular approaches. The Iberian Peninsula presents few Early Neolithic sites where fauna and humans can be analyzed together from an isotopic perspective. Here we present an isotopic study on the site of Cueva de Chaves as an example for understanding the dietary and economical changes that took place during Early Neolithic in Iberia. Material and methods Here we apply carbon and nitrogen stable isotope analysis to bone collagen from 4 humans and 64 faunal samples from 14 different species. The large dataset belongs to the same unique ch…
Studies on the effects of Ca2++ and Co++ on the swimming behavior of the blind Mexican cave fish
1992
The hypothesis that the blind cave fish (Astyanax hubbsi) adjusts the level of stimulation to its lateral line system (LLS) by varying its own velocity was examined. When the sensitivity of the LLS sense organs was reduced by lowering the Ca2+ concentration in the water or by adding Co2+ the fish compensated for this by swimming at a higher velocity.
The Forebrain of the Blind Cave Fish Astyanax hubbsi (Characidae)
1997
This paper presents a survey of the cell groups in the telencephalon of the teleost Astyanax hubbsi, based on series of transverse sections stained with the Nissl-, Kluver-Barrera and Bodian procedure
