Responses of European lobster (Homarus gammarus) and lobster fishers to protective management

2017

Master's thesis Aquatic Ecology BIO500 - University of Agder 2017 Marine protected areas (MPAs) are valued for their conservation benefits to harvested species. However, potential benefits of MPAs to neighboring fisheries are less well-understood. This study quantifies how the European lobster (Homarus gammarus) and the fishery for this valued catch respond to the establishment of a relatively small (5.2 km2) MPA on the Norwegian Skagerrak coast. A series of yearly standardized trap surveys was conducted to estimate lobster abundance and catch weights both inside and outside the MPA before (2010- 2011) and after the MPA was established (2012-2016). Lobster abundance and catch weights were d…

Kathepsinaktivitt in Placenten verschiedener Altersstufen

1954

Changes in the receptor profile of the lower urinary tract in the aging male

2004

Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is one of th e most common effects of aging in men. Epidemiologists estimate that about one quarter of all men over 50 years of age suffer from BPH-derived voiding symptoms. Future demographic developments, with higher relative shares of older people, will increase the socioeconomic impact of this disease. Polder et al. (1994) calculated for the Netherlands that the treatment costs of BPH will double by 2035. Office visits for BPH related symptoms increased in the USA from 1.4 million in 1990 to 6 million in 1995, reflecting the increased public awareness of the problem and the increased desire for treatment (Kaplan et al. 1996).

Screening for Solute Transporters in Plant Photosynthetic Membranes

2008

As compared to chloroplast envelope transporters, the field of thylakoid transporters is largely unexplored. There is evidence for several transport activities in the plant thylakoid membrane, but only a copper P-type ATPase and an ATP/ADP carrier have been so far identified at the gene level in Arabidopsis thaliana. Using in silico analyses, we have predicted the existence of approximately 15 thylakoid transporters, including phosphate transporters and cation channels. For experimental validation, we have used peptide- specific antibodies and functional analyses in heterologous system. These novel data are highly relevant to understand the transport network of the thylakoid membrane and it…

THE KINETICS AND MECHANISM OF THE REACTION OF ONIUM CYCLOPENTADIENYLIDES WITH TETRAHALO-p-BENZOQUINONES

1989

Abstract The reaction of triphenylphosphonium cyclopentadienylide (1) with halogen-substituted p-benzoquinones (4) is shown to give a new class of dipolar (zwitterionic) dyes (5) containing phosphorus. The general structure of these molecules has been investigated by a combination of mass spectrometry and multinuclear (7H, 13C and 31P) nmr using the specialist techniques of DEFT spectroscopy, homonuclear (COSY) and heteronuclear 2-D nmr. In addition, stopped-flow (uv/visible) techniques have been used to study the kinetics of the reactions and hence demonstrate that the rate-limiting step is nucleophilic addition of the ylid nucleophile to the quinone, followed by a rapid loss of halide ion…

Heterocyclisch anellierte Steroide aus 2-Hydroxymethylen-canrenon

1995

A-ring annulated heterocycles, the isoxazole 6, the pyrazoles 8 and the pyrimidines 9 are prepared starting from 2-hydroxymethylene canrenone 1. Binding studies were carried out with the compounds 1 and 6-8 using estrogen, progesterone, androgen, gluco- and mineralocorticoid receptors as well as the serum proteins SHBG and CBG: the substances were inactive on the receptor level. 1, 7 and 8a show weak binding affinity to CBG.

P–435 LH preserves oocyte-granulosa cell communication in mouse ovaries exposed to chemotherapy with alkylating agents

2021

Abstract Study question Does Luteinizing Hormone (LH) protect the follicular endowment and growth by improving oocyte-granulosa cell (GC) communication of follicles exposed to chemotherapy at the primordial stage? Summary answer LH treatment protects mouse primordial follicles against alkylating agents by preventing the chemotherapy-induced follicular depletion and the impairment of oocyte-GC communication during follicular growth. What is known already Impaired folliculogenesis is one of the most common deleterious side effects of alkylating agents in ovaries. Bidirectional communication between the oocyte and surrounding GCs is crucial for oocyte development. Therefore, defective gap junc…

Intermolecular interactions in dictating the self-assembly of halogen derivatives of bis-(N-substituted oxamato)palladate(ii) complexes

2016

Three palladium(II) complexes of formula (n-Bu4N)2[Pd(4-Fpma)2] (1), (n-Bu4N)2[Pd(4-Clpma)2]·4H2O (2) and (n-Bu4N)2[Pd(4-Brpma)2]·4H2O (3) [n-Bu4N+ = tetra-n-butylammonium cation, 4-Fpma = N-4-fluorophenyloxamate, 4-Clpma = N-4-chlorophenyloxamate and 4-Brpma = N-4-bromophenyloxamate] have been prepared and their structures determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction. Each palladium(II) ion in 1–3 is four-coordinate with two oxygen and two nitrogen atoms from two fully deprotonated oxamate ligands building PdO2N2 square planar surroundings, the oxamate ligands exhibiting trans (1 and 2) and cis (3) dispositions. The fluoro substituent and the organic counterion in 1 are involved in C–H⋯F…
