Salīdzinošā vācu-krievu subtitrēšanas analīze Volfganga Bekera filmā “Good Bye, Lenin!"
2017
Bakalaura darbs ir veltīts filmas "Good Bye, Lenin" subtitru salīdzinošajai analīzei, kurā aplūkota gramatisko un leksiski- semantisko transformāciju izmantošana. Ņemot vērā to, ka audiovizuālās tulkošanas jēdziens ir radies tikai XX gadsimta vidū, bet kino tulkošana ir viens no visneizpētītākajiem tulkošanas veidiem, piedāvātais darbs uzskatāmi atspoguļo izmaiņas, kurām tiek pakļauts teksts subtitrēšanas procesā. Darba teorētiskajā daļā tiek aplūkoti tulkošanas teorijas, audiovizuālās tulkošanas un starpkultūras komunikācijas aspekti. Pētījuma procesā noskaidrots, ka valodu konstrukcijas krievu tulkojumā bija ļoti stipri izmainītas, kas zināmā mērā samazināja iespējamo transformāciju daudz…
Audiovisual accessibility on the web: subtitling in the European Parliament
2020
Profiling deaf and hard-of-hearing users of subtitles for the deaf and hard-of-hearing in Italy: a questionnaire-based study
2012
The aim of this article is to present the results of a questionnaire-based study carried out as part of the author’s Master’s Degree dissertation about Subtitles for the Deaf and Hard-of-hearing (SDH). In particular, the need to gather specific information regarding audience design will be highlighted in the paper, since this research field has long been neglected in Italy. The questions were aimed at shedding light on the needs, cultural environment and world-view of Italian SDH users, by eliciting personal data as well as subtitlerelated information. Moreover, the 232 respondents were asked to suggest improvements to SDH services in Italy. Although these first results cannot allow definit…
Guidelines to compare additive and subtractive manufacturing approaches under the energy demand perspective
2020
In order to characterise the environmental performance of additive manufacturing (AM) processes, comparative analyses are required. Different manufacturing approaches (such as additive and subtractive ones), besides adopting different equipment, use different kinds and amounts of material. Therefore, the material-related flow has to be followed throughout the entire product life. Differences in environmental impact arise at each step of the life cycle: material production, manufacturing, use, disposal, and transportation. A life cycle-based methodology able to take due account of all the factors of influence on the total energy demand for the production of metal components is given in this …
A deep semantic segmentation-based algorithm to segment crops and weeds in agronomic color images
2022
Abstract In precision agriculture, the accurate segmentation of crops and weeds in agronomic images has always been the center of attention. Many methods have been proposed but still the clean and sharp segmentation of crops and weeds is a challenging issue for the images with a high presence of weeds. This work proposes a segmentation method based on the combination of semantic segmentation and K-means algorithms for the segmentation of crops and weeds in color images. Agronomic images of two different databases were used for the segmentation algorithms. Using the thresholding technique, everything except plants was removed from the images. Afterward, semantic segmentation was applied usin…
Neurobiologie und System-Theorie eines visuellen Muster-Erkennungsmechanismus bei Kröten
1973
Quantitative behavioral experiments have shown that the toad uses mainly two types of gestalt information in prey/enemy discrimination: pattern extension in the direction of movement promotes, in general, the signal value prey, while extension perpendicular to the direction of movement promotes that of enemy. Registrations from single fibers and single cells at different stages on the visual path showed that the object extension perpendicular to the direction of movement is chiefly analysed by means of the retinal and thalamus pretectal nerve nets, whereas the extension in the direction of movement is analysed mostly by certain tectal nerve nets. Further neurobiological findings indicated t…
Influence of Material-Related Aspects of Additive and Subtractive Ti-6Al-4V Manufacturing on Energy Demand and Carbon Dioxide Emissions
2016
Summary The additive manufacturing of metal parts represents a promising process that could be used alongside traditional manufacturing methods. The research scenario in this field is still largely unexplored, as far as the technological solutions adopted to integrate different processes are concerned and in terms of environmental and economic impact assessment. In this article, an electron beam melting (EBM) process and a machining process have been analyzed and compared using a cradle-to-grave life cycle–based approach. The production of components made of the Ti-6Al-4V alloy has been assumed as a case study. The proposed methodology is able to account for all of the main factors of influ…
Climatic and oceanographic changes in the Azores region during the last 74.7 Ka
2018
In this study, we reconstruct the complex palaeoclimatic and palaeohydrographic history of the North Atlantic Ocean during the Upper Pleistocene-Holocene, through a high-resolution Globigerinoides ruber - Globigerinoides elongatus plexus study. The studied core (ATA13-OF-KT1) was collected southwest of the Azores islands near the present-day boundary of the Subtropical Gyre/Azores Front Current System (STG/AFCS). Quantitative and stable isotope data of the G. ruber - G. elongatus plexus chromotypes and selected morphotypes showed cyclic oscillations of the STG/AFCS boundary linked to climatic variability at orbital and millennial scales, during the last 74.7 ka.
18F-FDG PET imaging of breast cancer : evaluation of the metabolic behaviour of the different breast cancer subtypes and prediction of the tumor resp…
2015
Positron Emission Tomography (PET) with 18Fluoro-deoxyglucose (18F-FDG) is the reference imaging examination for in-vivo quantification of the glucidic metabolism of tumour cells. It allows for the monitoring of tumour metabolic changes during chemotherapy. Breast cancer comprises several distinct genomic entities with different biological characteristics and clinical behaviours, leading to different tailored treatments. The aim of this doctoral thesis was to evaluate the relationship between the different biological entities of breast cancer and the tumour metabolic behaviour during neoadjuvant chemotherapy. We have also retrieved, among the various metabolic parameters on PET images, the …
Bread making with Saccharomyces cerevisiae CEN.PK113-5D expressing lipase A from Bacillus subtilis: Leavening characterisation and aroma enhancement
2015
Summary Lipase A from Bacillus subtilis was expressed in the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae CEN.PK113-5D strain as a cell wall-immobilised enzyme. The recombinant yeast was used in bread making to test the effect of lipase A on the bread properties such as rheological and aromatic properties. The results were compared to the not transformed strain and the commercial baker's yeast. The recombinant strain resulted a good leavening agent comparable to the commercial baker's yeasts provided 1% sucrose was added to the dough. Whereas, during the leavening, the trend of the rheological properties (cohesivness, gumminess and rigidity) differed from the commercial and the nontransformed (NT) strain…
