Integrative Gene Expression and Metabolic Analysis Tool IgemRNA

2022

ABSTRACTGenome scale metabolic modelling is widely used technique to research metabolism impacts on organism’s properties. Additional omics data integration enables a more precise genotype-phenotype analysis for biotechnology, medicine and life sciences. Transcriptome data amounts rapidly increase each year. Many transcriptome analysis tools with integrated genome scale metabolic modelling are proposed. But these tools have own restrictions, compatibility issues and the necessity of previous experience and advanced user skills. We have analysed and classified published tools, summarized possible transcriptome pre-processing, and analysis methods and implemented them in the new transcriptome…

Holes in the Dike: The Global Savings Glut, U.S. House Prices and the Long Shadow of Banking Deregulation

2016

We explore empirically how capital inflows into the US and financial deregulation within the United States interacted in driving the run-up (and subsequent decline) in US housing prices over the period 1990-2010. To obtain an ex ante measure of financial liberalization, we focus on the history of interstate-banking deregulation during the 1980s, i.e. prior to the large net capital inflows into the US from China and other emerging economies. Our results suggest a long shadow of deregulation: in states that opened their banking markets to out-of-state banks earlier, house prices were more sensitive to capital inflows. We provide evidence that global imbalances were a major positive funding sh…

Selenium: A Cure for Autoimmune Thyroiditis.

2021

Autoimmune thyroiditis (AT) is a disease whose incidence has increased dramatically over the past few decades. In iodine sufficient areas, this pathological condition affects up to 5% of the general population. The higher incidence of AT observed in areas of the world with low-selenium (Se) soils apperas to be the consequence of a reduced activity of the intracellular Sedependent glutathione peroxidase activity. Se is involved, through selenoproteins, in the regulation of intracellular antioxidant, redox and anti-inflammatory processes. As a component of selenoproteins, Se exerts various structural and enzymatic functions. A low Se/high fat diet can cause selenoprotein changes and promote t…

An interaction orientation approach to SME-Intermediaries relationships

2021

Abstract Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) engaging in foreign operations have drawn significant research attention in recent years. One of the aspects linked to such operations is SMEs’ expansion to foreign markets, often relying on local intermediaries. These intermediaries provide the firms with valuable resources such as market knowledge and recognition and reduce foreign operations’ costs. Hence, they are often considered as strategic partners. The current study aims to expand the existing knowledge regarding the relationships between business to business SMEs and their intermediaries by exploring interaction orientation as an organizational cultural aspect and its linkage to t…

Upscaling leaf gas exchange measurements to the whole grapevine canopy: An update

2009

This review first revisits current knowledge about single-leaf function, viz. photosynthesis, chiefly in relation to environmental factors, that underscores the importance of multiple summer stresses. Emphasis is placed on the response different genotypes show under light and heat stress with or without soil-water shortage. Secondly, it tackles the thorny issue of extrapolating single-leaf readings to the whole-canopy level, with special reference to both methodological and physiological implications. Whole-canopy gas-exchange systems deliver and emphasise the usefulness of such an approach in achieving key research goals. One case in point is quantifying the amount and dynamics of canopy g…

Le balanced scorecard en contexte culturel français. Etude de cas longitudinale

2004

Does Capital Structure Influence Company Profitability?

2017

Abstract Every company has a different structure of balance sheet. Some of the companies have more liabilities than equity. Considering the industry or debt-to-equity ratio, the balance sheet structure affects the company profitability measured by DuPont system. The main objective of the paper is to analyze the structure of balance sheet and to identify some optimal levels in order to increase company profitability. The DuPont returns like ROA (return on assets) and ROE (return on equity) will be used to measure the company profitability, while the debt-to-equity ratio will be used as a measure (reflection) of capital structure. The samples consist on the most profitable non-financial compa…

Environmental and Energy Analysis of Two Orchard Systems: A Case Study in Mediterranean Environment

2022

This paper aimed to analyse and compare the environmental and energy sustainability of two orchards (peach versus kiwifruit) located in Southern Italy using Life Cycle Thinking. To this end, anthropogenic energy, CO2 emissions, biogenic energy and carbon gains were also considered through Life Cycle Assessment methodology and Energy Analysis. The C–CO2 balance was calculated as the difference between total C–CO2 stored in soil and trees, at the end of their life cycles, and orchards Carbon Footprint (CF). The results showed that the production of 1 kg of peaches caused minor impacts, especially with reference to CF (0.124 kg CO2 eq against 0.145 for kiwifruit), while it required 1.56 MJ of …

Label-Free Detection of Protein-Ligand Interactions by the Quartz Crystal Microbalance

2005

In recent years the quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) has been accepted as a powerful technique to monitor adsorption processes at interfaces in different chemical and biological research areas. In the last decade, the investigation of adsorption of biomolecules on functionalized surfaces turned out to be one of the paramount applications of the QCM comprising the interaction of nucleic acids, specific molecular recognition of protein-receptor couples, and antigen-antibody reactions realized in immunosensors. The advantage of the QCM technique is that it allows for a label free detection of molecules. This is a result of the fact that the frequency response of the quartz resonator is propor…

Study by EQCM on the voltammetric electrogeneration of poly(neutral red). The effect of the pH and the nature of cations and anions on the electroche…

2003

Generation of poly(neutral red) films has been studied by means of the simultaneous measurements of current–potential and mass–potential curves during cyclic voltammetry (CV) experiments. It has been proved that the presence of molecular oxygen in the solution increases the amount of polymer deposited on the electrode. Otherwise, using the mass/charge ratio it is possible to obtain quantitative information about the electrodeposition by different procedures. It is observed that this ratio decreases when the amount of polymer electrogenerated increases, except when the polymer is not reduced and oxidised after its electrogeneration. The study of poly(neutral red) by CV and quartz crystal mic…
