A Scanning Technique to Measure Regional Cerebral Blood Flow and Oxyhemoglobin Level
2001
OBJECTIVE: The application of a laser scanning technique to measure regional cerebral blood flow (CBF) and tissue hemoglobin oxygenation (HbO 2 ) using the rat closed cranial window preparation is described. METHODS: Twenty-nine male Wistar rats were used to consecutively measure local CBF by laser Doppler flowmetry and tissue HbO 2 by a microspectrophotometric method at multiple corresponding cortical locations. The scanning technique used a computer-controlled micromanipulator. Data from three experimental models are presented: the whisker stimulation model, the ischemia-reperfusion model, and the sinus-vein thrombosis model. Sequential changes in local CBF and HbO 2 data before, during, …
On the synonymization of Acaulon longifolium Herrnst. & Heyn with Acaulon fontiquerianum Casas & Sérgio (Pottiaceae)
2021
During bryological work conducted in the Sharon plane region (Israel), a colony of Acaulon Müll. Hal. was discovered. The plants showed morphological affinities both to A. longifolium Herrnst. & Heyn and A. fontiquerianum Casas & Sérgio depending on the floras used for their identification which challenged their recognition as separate species. In order to solve this taxonomic dilemma, we conducted a detailed morphological characterization of the two species based on representative samples. The micromorphological study of vegetative, sporophytic and spore traits revealed the large overlap of range values between both species. Both species showed the characteristic combination of morphologic…
Nonlinear balayage on metric spaces
2009
We develop a theory of balayage on complete doubling metric measure spaces supporting a Poincaré inequality. In particular, we are interested in continuity and p-harmonicity of the balayage. We also study connections to the obstacle problem. As applications, we characterize regular boundary points and polar sets in terms of balayage. Irregular Time Dependent Obstacles
2010
Abstract We study the obstacle problem for the Evolutionary p-Laplace Equation when the obstacle is discontinuous and does not have regularity in the time variable. Two quite different procedures yield the same solution.
Exploring the diversity of listeria monocytogenes biofilm architecture by high-throughput confocal laser scanning microscopy and the predominance of …
2015
ABSTRACT Listeria monocytogenes is involved in food-borne illness with a high mortality rate. The persistence of the pathogen along the food chain can be associated with its ability to form biofilms on inert surfaces. While most of the phenotypes associated with biofilms are related to their spatial organization, most published data comparing biofilm formation by L. monocytogenes isolates are based on the quantitative crystal violet assay, which does not give access to structural information. Using a high-throughput confocal-imaging approach, the aim of this work was to decipher the structural diversity of biofilms formed by 96 L. monocytogenes strains isolated from various environments. Pr…

Quadrature domains for the Helmholtz equation with applications to non-scattering phenomena
2022
In this paper, we introduce quadrature domains for the Helmholtz equation. We show existence results for such domains and implement the so-called partial balayage procedure. We also give an application to inverse scattering problems, and show that there are non-scattering domains for the Helmholtz equation at any positive frequency that have inward cusps.
