Vibrio vulnificus biotype 3 has been implicated as the causative pathogen of an ongoing disease outbreak that erupted in Israel in 1996. Recent work based on multi-locus sequence typing (MLST) showed that V. vulnificus biotype 3 is genetically homogeneous. The aim of this study was to investigate the existence of subpopulations within this homogeneous biotype by characterizing the surface antigens and analysing the sequence diversity of selected outer-membrane protein (OMP)-encoding genes. The marine sponge Geodia cydonium contains several lectins. The main component, called lectin-1, is composed of three to four identical subunits. The subunits of the lectins were cloned from a cDNA library; two clones were obtained. From the deduced aa sequence of one clone, LECT-1, a mol. wt of 15,313 Da is calculated; this value is in good agreement with mass spectrometric analysis of 15,453 +/- 25 Da. The sequence of another clone, LECT-2, was analysed and the aa sequence was deduced (15,433 Da). International audience; The demetalation of a precursor dyad, 3, built upon a zinc(II)-containing artificial special pair and free-base antenna, leads to a new dyad, 4, for singlet energy transfer composed of cofacial free-base porphyrins (acceptor), [Fb](2) bridged by a 1,4-C6H4 group to a free-base antenna (donor), [Fb]. This dyad exhibits the general structure [M](2)-C6H4-[Fb], where [M](2) = [Fh](2), and completes a series reported earlier, where [M](2) = [Mg](2) (2) and [Zn](2) (3). The latter dyads exhibit a bidirectional energy-transfer process at 298 K for 2 and at 77 K for 3.
