Doping violates the Spirit of Sport and is thought to contradict the values which underpin this spirit. Values-based education (VBE) has been cited as a key element for creating a clean sport culture across age groups. Culturally relevant VBE requires understanding of the values that motivate athletes from different countries to practice their sport and uphold clean sport values. WADA's new International Standards for Education makes this study both needed and timely. Overall, 1,225 athletes from Germany, Greece, Italy, Russia, and the UK responded to measures assessing their general values, Spirit of Sport values, and their perceived importance of "clean sport". Applying health promoting sports club standards in the Netherlands

This study explores health promotion activity of Dutch sports clubs by using the Health Promoting Sports Clubs (HPSC) standards, which are developed in Finland and here applied to the Dutch sports context. The standards consist of 23 items which cover different perspectives on health promotion. The standards form an overall HPSC index, which is used to create health promotion profiles for the sports clubs. 17 sports clubs from the municipality of ‘s-Hertogenbosch participated in this study, of which 42 club officials (1-6 per club) evaluated their own club on all HPSC standards on a five-point Likert scale. Background: Periodical cicadas (Magicicada spp.) have a life cycle that ends with the entire underground nymph population exhibiting a synchronized mass emergence to mate above ground. Previous studies have hypothesized that the periodical cicadas evolved from non-periodical cicadas by switching from a life-cycle length determined by body size to one determined by age.
