Baum-Katz’s Type Theorems for Pairwise Independent Random Elements in Certain Metric Spaces

In this study, some Baum-Katz’s type theorems for pairwise independent random elements are extended to a metric space endowed with a convex combination operation. Our results are considered in the cases of identically distributed and non-identically distributed random elements. Some illustrative examples are provided to sharpen the results. peerReviewed

The presentation of this copper alloy belt buckle decorated with a cross flanked by two griffons from Fleurey-sur- Ouche (Côte-d'Or), gives us the opportunity to review our knowledge of this type of buckle, the corpus of which has been recently enriched by new examples. Even though the fifteen known pieces can be categorized in the group D defined by the characteristic finds of the Burgundian kingdom, the iconographical theme remains quite diverse. Also, discoveries have been made all over this vast area, underlining the existence of several workshops, not only in the Jura put also in the Lauragais area.

The role of emotions and literature in public deliberation: the figure of Martha C. Nussbaum ‘s perceptive equilibrium

This article argues that literature can play a key role in the processes of ethical deliberation; therefore it can be regarded as an extremely useful tool to justify public decision-making. In order to support this thesis I examine Nussbaum’s proposal of perceptive equilibrium as a method to conduct the public deliberation processes which integrates the emotions in its structure. Finally, I analyse one of the possible applications of the proposed method: introducing narrative texts, both historical and fictional, in the curricula as a method for ethical deliberation.

RESUMEN: En este artículo se presenta la evaluación eudaimonista como una articulación entre el agente y los objetos del mundo. Sostendremos que, gracias a esta noción, la teoría de las emociones de Nussbaum es adecuada para dar cuenta de la función adaptativa de las emociones, por lo que las teorías no cognitivas no resultarían superiores en este aspecto. Esta noción serviría, asimismo, para no dejar de lado los aspectos cognitivos de la emoción. International audience; We discuss central aspects of history of the concept of an affine dif-ferentiable manifold, as a proposal confirming the need for using some quantitative methods (drawn from elementary Model Theory) in Mathematical Historiography. In particular, we prove that this geometric structure is a syntactic rigid designator in the sense of Kripke-Putnam.

Olen tutkielmassani yrittänyt vastata kysymyksiin: Mitä teemoja kirjoissa käsitellään? Miten tyttöjä ja poikia kuvaillaan?
