Experimental investigations of backward transition radiation characteristics in extreme ultraviolet region

2011

ABSTRACT This report summarizes the results of an experiment dedicated to the observation of backward transition radia-tion in the EUV spectral region. This radiation was ge nerated by an 855MeV electron beam at a molybdenumtarget. The radiation characteristics in the EUV region are compared to those in the optical region. It wasshown that the radiation measured in the EUV region was more intense than theoretically predicted. As aresult the EUV radiation yield seems to be suci ent for standard beam pro“le diagnostics. Keywords: EUV, Transition radiation, Beam diagnostics 1. Validation of a Shear Model for RC and Hybrid Beams with Two Different Inclinations of Transversal Reinforcement

2016

The validation of an analytical model recently proposed for evaluation of the shear capacity in Reinforced Concrete (RC) beams containing multiple inclination of transverse stirrups is presented. The model is a suitable extension of that currently proposed in Eurocode 2 for the evaluation of the shear resistance, and it is derived by means of the the variable-inclination stress-field theory based on Nielsen’s plastic approach. Experimental and numerical data available in the literature on Hybrid Steel-Trussed Concrete Beams (HSTCBs) are used for model validation and result discussion. Finally, also the comparison with a different analytical approach for the assessment of the shear resistanc…

Regge phenomenology in π0 and η photoproduction

2017

The $\ensuremath{\gamma}N\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{0}N$ and $\ensuremath{\gamma}N\ensuremath{\rightarrow}\ensuremath{\eta}N$ reactions at photon beam energies above 4 GeV are investigated within Regge models. The models include $t$-channel exchanges of vector ($\ensuremath{\rho}$ and $\ensuremath{\omega}$) and axial-vector (${b}_{1}$ and ${h}_{1}$) mesons. Moreover, Regge cuts of $\ensuremath{\rho}\mathbb{P},\phantom{\rule{0.28em}{0ex}}\ensuremath{\rho}{f}_{2},\phantom{\rule{0.28em}{0ex}}\ensuremath{\omega}\mathbb{P}$, and $\ensuremath{\omega}{f}_{2}$ are investigated. A good description of differential cross sections and polarization observables at photon beam energies fr…

First observation of strong OZI rule violation in πN interactions

1996

The data of the CERN WA56 experiment that triggered the fast proton produced in the $\pi^{+}p$ and $\pi^{-}p$ interactions at beam momenta 20 GeV/c and 12 GeV/c, respectively, are used to analyse the final states $ p_{f} \phi (\omega)\pi^{\pm}$. A large excess (up to two orders of magnitude) of the $\phi/\omega$ cross sections ratio over the OZI prediction is observed.

A new differentially pumped plunger device to measure excited-state lifetimes in proton emitting nuclei

2013

Abstract A new plunger device has been designed and built to measure the lifetimes of unbound states in exotic nuclei beyond the proton drip-line. The device has been designed to work in both vacuum and dilute-gas environments made possible through the introduction of a low-voltage stepping motor. DPUNS will be used in conjunction with the gas-filled separator RITU and the vacuum separator MARA at the accelerator laboratory of the University of Jyvaskyla, Finland, to measure the lifetimes of excited states with low population cross-sections. This is achieved by eliminating the need for a carbon foil to isolate the helium gas of RITU from the beam line thus reducing the background from beam-…

Microcalorimeter/EBIT measurements of X-ray spectra of highly charged ions

2001

Spectra of highly charged Ar, Kr, Xe and Fe ions, produced in an Electron Beam Ion Trap (EBIT), have been recorded in a broad X-ray energy band (0.2 keV to 10 keV) with a microcalorimeter detector. The first analysis of the Kr spectra has been completed and most of the spectral lines have been identified as transitions of B- to Al-like Kr. Line intensity ratios of Fe XVII have been measured and compared with theoretical models.

Soret Effect In Forced Rayleigh-scattering

1987

In forced Rayleigh scattering of mixtures or suspensions the temperature gratings generate, by the Soret effect, concentration gratings that may be very important since they produce both a phase and an amplitude grating superimposed on the principal one. The experimental evidence of their influence was given by Thyagarajan and Lallemand using a mixture of carbondisulfide and ethanol. In this paper we study the temporal behaviour of the concentration grating versus the sample properties and its effect on the detected diffracted beam. Explicit expressions are given for the output intensity taking into account both the generated amplitude and phase gratings.

Trajectory bending and energy spreading of charged ions in time-of-flight telescopes used for ion beam analysis

2014

Carbon foil time pick-up detectors are widely used in pairs in ion beam applications as time-of-flight detectors. These detectors are suitable for a wide energy range and for all ions but at the lowest energies the tandem effect limits the achievable time of flight and therefore the energy resolution. Tandem effect occurs when an ion passes the first carbon foil of the timing detector and its charge state is changed. As the carbon foil of the first timing detector has often a non-zero voltage the ion can accelerate or decelerate before and after the timing detector. The combination of different charge state properties before and after the carbon foil now induces spread to the measured times…

Implementation of dosimetry equipment and phantoms at the MedAustron light ion beam therapy facility

2017

Purpose: To describe the implementation of dosimetry equipment and phantoms into clinical practice of light ion beam therapy facilities. This work covers standard dosimetry equipment such as computerized water scanners, films, 2D-array, thimble and plane parallel ionization chambers, but also dosimetry equipment specifically devoted to the pencil beam scanning delivery technique such as water columns, scintillating screens or multi-layer ionization chambers. Method: Advanced acceptance testing procedures developed at MedAustron and complementary to the standard acceptance procedures proposed by the manufacturer are presented. Detailed commissioning plans have been implemented for each piece…
