Cognitive and behavioral techniques used by olympic and paralympic swimmers to manage sport related thoughts and emotions

2018

The present study investigated the thoughts and emotions of swimmers and what techniques they used to manage them before and during their best and worst performances. Twelve male Brazilian swimmers (5 Olympic and 7 Paralympic) took part of the study. They were 22 to 37 years old (M = 26.16, SD = 4.32). Three athletes (25%) were middle distance swimmers in freestyle, and the other nine (75%) were sprinters in all four swimming styles. An in-depth semi-structured interview was designed to explore the internal processes of participants and the techniques they used to manage them in the competitive events. The interview consisted of three sections: the first section examined the thoughts and em…

Long-Term Efficacy of Psychosocial Treatments for Adults With Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder: A Meta-Analytic Review

2018

Background: Recent evidence suggests that psychosocial treatments, particularly cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), are effective interventions for adult attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). The objective of this review was to determine the long-term efficacy of psychosocial interventions in improving clinically relevant variables, including ADHD core symptoms, clinical global impression (CGI), and global functioning. Methods: In total, nine randomized controlled trials and three uncontrolled single-group pretest-posttest studies were included. The data from these studies were combined using the inverse variance method. Heterogeneity and risk of bias were assessed. Subgroup anal…

Northward range expansion requires synchronization of both overwintering behaviour and physiology with photoperiod in the invasive Colorado potato be…

2014

Abstract. Photoperiodic phenological adaptations are prevalent in many organisms living in seasonal environments. As both photoperiod and growth season length change with latitude, species undergoing latitudinal range expansion often need to synchronize their life cycle with a changing photoperiod and growth season length. Since adaptive synchronization often involves a large number of time-consuming genetic changes, behavioural plasticity might be a faster way to adjust to novel conditions. We compared behavioural and physiological traits in overwintering (diapause) preparation in three latitudinally different European Colorado potato beetle (Leptinotarsa decemlineata) populations reared u…

Logistyka miasta jako podstawa kształtowania zachowań komunikacyjnych

2013

Stały wzrost wykorzystania indywidualnych środków komunikacji miejskiej potęguje zjawisko kongestii i obniżenie jakości życia w mieście.

Ethical Behavior and Organizational Innovation: Analysis of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises in Latvia

2018

Abstract Innovations can provide small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) a significant competitive advantage considering the ambiguous business environment. SMEs may face lower capacity and more constrained funding for long-term investments, however, understanding innovation in a broader sense and looking into organizational structures, behaviors and processes, SMEs have an opportunity to become more competitive. This study analyzes the impact of ethical behavior as a part of an organizational culture on organizational innovation performance in SMEs. Six hundred SMEs in Latvia were surveyed to assess whether employees follow the principles of business ethics in their work and what is the …

El model PROT i la responsabilitat social universitaria: prosocialitat i transferència del coneixement a la pràctica

2019

Development of Computerized Adaptive Testing for Emotion Regulation

2020

Emotion regulation (ER) plays a vital role in individuals’ well-being and successful functioning. In this study, we attempted to develop a computerized adaptive testing (CAT) to efficiently evaluate ER, namely the CAT-ER. The initial CAT-ER item bank comprised 154 items from six commonly used ER scales, which were completed by 887 participants recruited in China. We conducted unidimensionality testing, item response theory (IRT) model comparison and selection, and IRT item analysis including local independence, item fit, differential item functioning, and item discrimination. Sixty-three items with good psychometric properties were retained in the final CAT-ER. Then, two CAT simulation stud…

COMUNICACIÓN FAMILIAR Y COMPORTAMIENTOS DELICTIVOS EN ADOLESCENTES ESPAÑOLES:: EL DOBLE ROL MEDIADOR DE LA AUTOESTIMA¹

2007

This research analyses the relationship among family communication (open communication versus communication problems), multidimensional self-esteem (family, academic, social and physical self-esteem) and behavioural problems in adolescence. Two independent samples were used in the study: Sample 1 was composed of 414 adolescents ranging in age from 12 to 17 years old, and Sample 2 was composed of 625 adolescents aged from 11 to 20 years old. Results showed an indirect effect of family communication on delinquent behavior through the mediation of self-esteem. We found a protection effect of family and academic self-esteem and a risk effect of social and physical self-esteem on delinquent beha…

P300 amplitudes in the Concealed Information Test are less affected by depth of processing than electrodermal responses

2012

The Concealed Information Test (CIT) has been used in the laboratory as well as in field applications to detect concealed crime related memories. The presentation of crime relevant details to guilty suspects has been shown to elicit enhanced N200 and P300 amplitudes of the event-related brain potentials (ERPs) as well as greater skin conductance responses (SCRs) as compared to neutral test items. These electrophysiological and electrodermal responses were found to incrementally contribute to the validity of the test, thereby suggesting that these response systems are sensitive to different psychological processes. In the current study, we tested whether depth of processing differentially af…
