Quadruple-Phase MDCT of the Liver in Patients with Suspected Hepatocellular Carcinoma: Effect of Contrast Material Flow Rate

2006

The purposes of this study were to evaluate the effect of contrast material flow rate (3 mL/sec vs 5 mL/sec) on the detection and visualization of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) with MDCT and the safety profile of iodixanol at different injection rates. In a prospective, randomized multicenter trial, 97 patients (83 men and 14 women, with a mean age of 64 years) suspected of having HCC underwent quadruple-phase (double arterial, portal venous, delayed phase) 4-16-MDCT. Patients were randomized to receive iodixanol, 320 mg I/mL (1.5 mL/kg body weight), at a flow rate of 3 mL/sec (48 patients) or 5 mL/sec (49 patients). Qualitative (lesion detection, image quality) and quantitative (liver and …

Comparison of BT-PABA test and fecal chymotrypsin measurements in normal subjects and diabetic patients

1990

A N-benzoil-L-tyrosil-PABA test on 6h urine collection, a plasma PABA assay 2 h after administration and a fecal chymotrypsin assay were performed on 66 patients (36 controls and 30 type 2 diabetic patients on insulin therapy). All patients were hospitalized and without gastrointestinal and renal disease. The mean values of plasmatic PABA and fecal chymotrypsin were significantly lower in the diabetic group than in the controls (p less than 0.025 and p less than 0.01, respectively), although they remained within normal range. But this was not the case for PABA urinary excretion values. This may indicate a slower but more protracted PABA absorption during the third or fourth hour with the re…

Inverse association between habitual polyphenol intake and incidence of cardiovascular events in the PREDIMED study

2014

Background and aims: Epidemiologic and biological evidence supports an inverse association between polyphenol consumption and the risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD). However, no previous studies have prospectively evaluated the relationship between polyphenol intake and the incidence of CVD in such a comprehensive way. The aim was to evaluate the association between intakes of total polyphenol and polyphenol subgroups, and the risk of major cardiovascular events (myocardial infarction, stroke or death from cardiovascular causes) in the PREDIMED study. Methods and results: The present work is an observational study within the PREDIMED trial. Over an average of 4.3 years of follow-up, there…

Comparison of iodinated contrast media for the assessment of atherosclerotic plaque attenuation values by CT coronary angiography: observations in an…

2013

Objective: To compare the influence of different iodinated contrast media with several dilutions on plaque attenuation in an ex vivo coronary model studied by multislice CT coronary angiography. Methods: In six ex vivo left anterior descending coronary arteries immersed in oil, CT (slices/collimation 64x0.625 mm, temporal resolution 210 ms, pitch 0.2) was performed after intracoronary injection of a saline solution, and solutions of a dimeric isosmolar contrast medium (Iodixanol 320 mgl ml(-1)) and a monomeric high-iodinated contrast medium (Iomeprol 400 mgl ml(-1)) with dilutions of 1/80 (low concentration), 1/50 (medium concentration), 1/40 (high concentration) and 1/20 (very high concent…

Tuning the photocatalytic activity of bismuth wolframate: Towards selective oxidations for the biorefinery driven by solar-light

2017

The sol–gel entrapment of nanostructured Bi2WO6 enhances the activity and the selectivity of the short-gap semiconductor in the sunlight-driven photo-oxidation of trans-ferulic and trans-cinnamic acid dissolved in water with air as the primary oxidant. Valuable products such as vanillin, benzaldehyde, benzoic acid and vanillic acid are obtained. This provides the proof of concept that photocatalysis could be a promising technology in tomorrow's solar biorefineries.

Prediction of Solid Solution Formation among Chemically Similar Molecules Using Calculation of Lattice and Intermolecular Interaction Energy

2020

Several 2-substituted 4-nitrobenzoic acid (NBA) derivatives such as 2-chloro-4-nitrobenzoic acid (2C4NBA), 2-methyl-4-nitrobenzoic acid (2CH34NBA) and 2-hydroxy-4-nitrobenzoic acid (2OH4NBA) were selected as model compounds because of their availability and chemically similar structures, in which the different group/atom (R) does not significantly affect the dominant intermolecular interactions – hydrogen bonds formed by the carboxylic group [1]. Quantum chemical calculations of lattice and intermolecular interaction energy were carried out to identify possible factors, which could be, used in prediction of the formation of solid solutions (SS) in binary systems of chemically similar molecu…

Adsorption of di-and triblock copolymers with functionalized butadiene-styrene blocks from dilute solution

1995

Abstract The adsorption behaviour of functionalized polystyrene-block-polybutadiene diblock copolymers, P(S-b-B), and polybutadiene-block-polystyrene-block-polybutadiene triblock copolymers, P(B-b-S-b-B), from dilute solutions in toluene onto silicon wafers was investigated by means of null-ellipsometry. Polar 4-(3,5-dioxo- 1,2,4-triazolidin-4-yl) benzoic acid groups (urazole groups) were attached randomly to the butadiene blocks. The PS blocks and the PB blocks adsorb not on the substrate surface, but only on the polar functional groups. It was verified that the adsorbed amount does not depend on the number of functional groups nor on the degree of polymerization of the polybutadiene block…

Photoinduced mass transport in low molecular organic glasses and its practical application in holography

2015

Abstract In this paper we present the synthesis and optical properties of amorphous low molecular compound 4-((4-(bis(5,5,5-Triphenylpentyl)amino)phenyl)diazenyl)benzoic acid. The surface relief gratings formation by polarization holography method on these thin films (thicknesses are 200–1700 nm) was shown. The dependence of the surface relief modulation on various parameters: recording exposure dose, the polarization state of the recording beams, the grating period and the film thickness of the material was demonstrated. Values of surface tension at the air-film before and after irradiation of the substance by polarized radiation were measured. The efficiency of surface relief formation in…

Metabolism of n-Butyl Benzyl Phthalate in the Female Wistar Rat. Identification of New Metabolites

1999

International audience; n-Butyl benzyl phthalate (BBP), a plasticizer used in polyvinylchloride (PVC) and other polymers, has been orally administered to female Wistar rats with four doses (150, 475, 780 and 1500 mg/kg body weight/day) for 3 consecutive days. Metabolites recovered in urines were analysed by gas chromatography±mass spectrometry (GC±MS) after 24, 48 and 72 hours. Six metabolites were identi®ed. Mono-n-butyl phthalate (MBuP) and mono-n-benzyl phthalate (MBeP) represented respectively 29± 34% and 7±12 % of the total recovered metabolites. Hippuric acid, the main metabolite of benzoic acid, represented the second major metabolite (51±56%). Phthalic acid, benzoic acid and an o-ox…

The role of water in the photocatalytic degradation of acetonitrile and toluene in gas-solid and liquid-solid regimes

2006

Photocatalytic degradation of acetonitrile and toluene was carried out both in gas-solid and in liquid-solid regimes by using commercialTiO2samples (Merck and Degussa P25). The investigation was mainly aimed to study the influence of water present in the reaction environment on the mechanism and degradation rate of two probe molecules. In gas-solid regime, the reacting mixture consisted of toluene or acetonitrile, oxygen, nitrogen, and water vapour. The main degradation product of toluene wasCO2with small amounts of benzaldehyde. In the presence of water vapour, the activity ofTiO2Merck remained stable but greatly decreased if water was absent.TiO2Degussa P25 continuously deactivated, even …
