Cuticular hydrocarbon profiles in Blattella germanica: effects of halofenozide, boric acid and benfuracarb

2006

1379-1176 (Print) Journal Article; In order to complete previous studies conducted on Blattella germanica, three insecticides from different groups were evaluated: boric acid, an inorganic compound, benfuracarb, a carbamate, and halofenozide, a non-steroidal ecdysone agonist. Boric acid (8.20%, LD50) and benfuracarb (2%, LD50) were incorporated into the diet and orally administrated to newly emerged adults of both sexes, while halofenozide (0.33%, LD50) was applied topically. Hydrocarbons extracts was made on bidistilled pentane from control and treated series sampled 6 days following treatment. Extracts was analyzed by gas chromatography. Data showed that cuticular profiles of control and …

ber das Schicksal von C14-Benzoesure und C14-p-Chlorbenzoesure im Organismus

1956

Increasing the Templating Effect on a Bulk Insulator Surface: From a Kinetically Trapped to a Thermodynamically More Stable Structure

2016

Molecular self-assembly, governed by the subtle balance between intermolecular and molecule- surface interactions, is generally associated with the thermodynamic ground state, while the competition between kinetics and thermodynamics during its formation is often neglected. Here, we present a simple model system of a benzoic acid derivative on a bulk insulator surface. Combining high-resolution non-contact atomic force microscopy experiments and density functional theory, we characterize the structure and the thermodynamic stability of a set of temperature-dependent molecular phases formed by 2,5-dihydroxybenzoic acid molecules, self- assembled on the insulating calcite (10.4) surface. We d…

Dendronized azochromophores with aromatic and perfluoroaromatic fragments: Synthesis and properties demonstrating Ar ArF interactions

2019

Abstract Syntheses of four new dendronized azochromophores were performed from 2-(2-amino-5-nitrophenoxy)ethanol, 2-[methyl(phenyl)amino]ethanol, 3,5-bis(benzyloxy)benzoic acid and 3,5-bis[(pentafluorophenyl)methoxy]benzoic acid using azo coupling reaction and ester formation reaction in presence of N,Nʹ-dicyclohexylcarbodiimide and 4-(dimethylamino)pyridine. Arene-perfluoroarene (Ar ArF) interactions are demonstrated in single crystal structure of dendronized azochromophore between pentafluorophenyl fragment and acceptor part of the azochromophore. The effect of Ar ArF interactions becomes apparent in thermal and nonlinear optical properties of the chromophores. Glass transition temperatur…

Studies on the apoptotic activity of natural and synthetic retinoids: discovery of a new class of synthetic terphenyls that potently support cell gro…

2005

New terphenyl derivatives have been synthesized and tested for their effect on cell survival in serum-free cultures. These compounds protected HL60 cells from death and supported their growth with an activity higher than that of the natural 14-hydroxy-retro-retinol. Terphenyls 26 and 28 also possess antiapoptotic activity on neuronal cells, proving them as possible candidates for the treatment of neurodegenerative and ischemic diseases.

Benzyl alcohol to benzaldehyde oxidation on MnOx clusters: Unraveling atomistic features

2021

Abstract The catalytic oxidation of benzyl alcohol with O 2 is a promising option for the production of benzaldehyde, from both environmental and economical viewpoints. In particular, highly dispersed MnO x systems feature good activity and selectivity in a wide range of temperatures, although deactivation phenomena by over-oxidation and/or poisoning of active sites are generally recorded. On this account, a density functional theory study was performed on cluster-sized catalyst models, namely Mn 4 O 8 and over-oxygenated Mn 4 O 9 fragments, to predict the reactivity pattern of MnO x catalysts in the selective aerobic oxidation of benzyl alcohol. Several pathways concur to determine the who…

Kinetics of streptolysin O self-assembly.

1995

Streptolysin O is a member of a family of membrane-damaging toxins that bind to cell membranes containing cholesterol and then polymerize to form large pores. We have examined the kinetics of toxin action using 125I-labelled streptolysin O. Binding of toxin monomers to membranes displays first-order kinetics and is reversible; the rate of desorption from red cells shows a marked dependence on temperature. To study oligomerization, toxin was bound to erythrocytes at 0 degrees C. Oligomer formation was then triggered by a sudden temperature shift and stopped by solubilization of membranes with deoxycholate. While at moderately high streptolysin O concentrations oligomerization behaves as a re…

Crystal and Molecular Structure and Stability of Isoniazid Cocrystals with Selected Carboxylic Acids

2013

Reaction of isoniazid with benzoic acid, sebacic acid, suberic acid, and cinnamic acid results in formation of cocrystals. Two polymorphs of isoniazid–suberic acid and two polymorphs of isoniazid–cinnamic acid cocrystals were isolated. Crystal structure analysis shows the presence of a pyridine–carboxylic acid synthon in the studied cocrystals. The hydrazide group of isoniazid participates in N–H···O and N–H···N hydrogen bond formation, producing different supramolecular synthons. The stability study of isoniazid cocrystals has been performed over a 22 week period. A comparison of melting points of isoniazid–dicarboxylic acid 2:1 cocrystals shows the decrease of melting point with an increa…

Selectivity of hydroxyl radical in the partial oxidation of aromatic compounds in heterogeneous photocatalysis

2007

Abstract The photocatalytic oxidation of different benzene derivatives has been investigated in order to understand how the substituent group affects the selectivity to hydroxylated compounds. Experimental runs were performed by using TiO2 (Merck) aqueous suspensions at natural pH irradiated by near-UV light. The organic molecules used as substrate contained an electron withdrawing group (EWG) (nitrobenzene, cyanobenzene, benzoic acid, 1-phenylethanone), an electron donor one (EDG) (phenol, phenylamine, N-phenylacetamide) or both an EWG and an EDG (4-chlorophenol). The results clearly indicated that the primary photocatalytic oxidation of aromatic compounds containing an EDG gives rise main…
