Biexciton formation and exciton coherent coupling in layered GaSe.

2015

Nonlinear two-dimensional Fourier transform (2DFT) and linear absorption spectroscopy are used to study the electronic structure and optical properties of excitons in the layered semiconductor GaSe. At the 1s exciton resonance, two peaks are identified in the absorption spectra, which are assigned to splitting of the exciton ground state into the triplet and singlet states. 2DFT spectra acquired for co-linear polarization of the excitation pulses feature an additional peak originating from coherent energy transfer between the singlet and triplet. At cross-linear polarization of the excitation pulses, the 2DFT spectra expose a new peak likely originating from bound biexcitons. The polarizati…

Singlet and triplet excitons in conjugated polymers.

1992

Exciton states in conjugated polymers are theoretically studied in the Su-Schrieffer-Heeger model supplemented by long-range Coulomb interactions. The relationship between exciton energies and basic interaction parameters is clarified, demonstrating the special nature of one-dimensional excitons. The binding energies of the lowest singlet and triplet excitons depend sensitively upon the on-site Coulomb energy. Relevant experiments in polydiacetylene can be explained by the present model using moderate interaction strength.

Exciton mass increase in a GaAs/AlGaAs quantum well in a transverse magnetic field

2017

In this work we have investigated the exciton reflectance spectra of a high quality heterostructure with a GaAs/AlGaAs quantum well in a transverse magnetic field (Voigt geometry). It has been shown that application of the magnetic field leads to a decrease of energy distance between spectral features related to the excitonlike polariton modes. This effect has been treated as the magneto-induced increase of the exciton mass. We have shown that the hydrogenlike and diamagnetic exciton models are insufficient to describe the exciton behavior in the intermediate magnetic fields studied. Considering the symmetry of the problem, we have developed a phenomenological model which adequately describ…

Decoherence of the Exciton and Decay of the Excitonic Polaron in Quantum Dots

2005

Bulk-phonon mechanisms of decoherence of an exciton confined in a quantum dot (QD) are considered in order to establish time limitations for the coherent control of the exciton with relevance to its application in quantum information processing. These are the formation and decay of the excitonic polaron. The estimations of characteristic dephasing times for the InAs/GaAs QD are discussed.

<title>Electronic excitations and defects in fluoroperovskite LiBaF<formula><inf><roman>3</roman></inf></formu…

2003

A survey of the present situation with respect to knowledge of lattice defects, electronic excitations, such as excitons and localized excitons, as well as energy storage and transfer phenomena in LiBaF3 crystals is given. Both phenomenological models and experimental interpretations of optical absorption bands, tentatively associated with F-type (electron) centers created by X-ray or electron irradiation, is reviewed. Interpretation of three radiative processes (super-fast core-valence transitions, slow trapped exciton luminescence and luminescence of structure defects) observed in undoped LiBaF3 crystals is analyzed with respect to practical application. Attention is paid to the behavior …

Multiexciton complex from extrinsic centers in AlGaAs epilayers on Ge and Si substrates

2013

The multiexciton properties of extrinsic centers from AlGaAs layers on Ge and Si substrates are addressed. The two photon cascade is found both in steady state and in time resolved experiments. Polarization analysis of the photoluminescence provides clearcut attribution to neutral biexciton complexes. Our findings demonstrate the prospect of exploiting extrinsic centers for generating entangled photon pairs on a Si based device. © 2013 AIP Publishing LLC.

Optical properties of an exciton bound to an ionized impurity in ZnO/SiO2 quantum dots

2015

Abstract The energy of the ground and the excited states for the exciton and the binding energy of the acceptor–donor exciton complexes ( A − , X ) and ( D + , X ) as a function of the radius for an impurity position located in the center in the spherical ZnO quantum dots (QDs) embedded in a SiO2 matrix are calculated using the effective mass approximation under the diagonalzation matrix technique, including a three-dimensional confinement of carrier in the QD and assuming a finite depth. Numerical results show that the binding energy of the acceptor–donor exciton complexes is very sensitive to the quantum dot size. These results could be particularly helpful since they are closely related …

Excitons in SiO2: a review

1992

Abstract In this paper, excitonic properties of crystalline and glassy SiO 2 are reviewed. Experimental spectroscopic data (optical absorption and reflection spectra, as well as spectra of luminescence and its excitation), luminescence decay kinetics at different temperatures, and photoelectric properties — photoconductivity and photoelectron emission — were used to determine excitons in SiO 2 . Information on migration of excitons was obtained on the basis of energy transport to impurity luminescence centers, the latter being detectors of quasiparticles. Determination of excitonic properties in glassy SiO 2 was based on the comparison of the observed phenomena in crystalline and glassy mat…
