Big Data e Inteligencia Artificial.
A bibliometric approach to finding fields that co-evolved with information technology
2020
Among the declining industries, for example music industry, some have been revived by information technology (IT). At the same time, in academic fields, some have expected co-evolutions between IT and other fields to cause the resurgence of either field. In this research, the clustering of citation networks with 14,438 academic papers resulted in the identification of 28 academic fields in the areas “Computer Science” or “Information Science and Library Science.” Co-evolutions between these 28 fields and citing fields to the 28 fields were evaluated by an investigation of contents; a methodology to search co-evolutions was also proposed. This paper proposes that pairs of academic fields (wi…

High-dimensional Big Data processing with dictionary learning and diffusion maps

Algorithms for modern Big Data analysis deal with both massive amount of sam- ples and a large number of features (high-dimension). One way to cope with these challenges is to assume and discover the existence of localization in the data by uncovering its intrinsic geometry. This approach suggests that different data segments can be analyzed separately and then unified in order to gain an understanding of the whole phenomenon. Methods that utilize efficiently local- ized data are attractive for high-dimensional big data analysis, because they can be parallelized, and thus the computational resources, which are needed for their utilization, are realistic and affordable. These methods can explo…
AUGMENTED REALITY FOR CULTURAL HERITAGE: THE REBIRTH OF A HISTORICAL SQUARE
2019
Abstract. The case study, faced in this paper, arises in the context of Interreg Italia-Malta European project named I-Access, dedicated to the improvement of accessibility to Cultural Heritage (CH). Accessibility considered not only as the demolition of physical architectural barriers, but also as the possibility of fruition of CH through technological tools that can increase its perception and knowledge. Last achievements in photogrammetry and terrestrial laser scanner (TLS) technology offered new methods of data acquisition in the field of CH, giving the possibility of monitoring and processing big data, in the form of point clouds. Ever in this field, reverse engineering techniques and …
THE VIRTUALIZATION OF CH FOR HISTORICAL RECONSTRUCTION: THE AR FRUITION OF THE FOUNTAIN OF ST. GEORGE SQUARE IN VALLETTA (MALTA)
2020
Abstract. Improving accessibility to Cultural Heritage (CH) is an increasingly urgent challenge today. It is not only a matter of physical inaccessibility but also temporal, considering that part of CH now lost. Fortunately, the most modern technological tools are helping to break down both space and time barriers. In facts, recent advances in representation, 3D modelling and survey methodologies opened new scenarios for valorization and conservation of CH. In particular, the improvement of quality in resolution and sensor sensitivity of cameras allowed to achieve the right level of 3D reconstruction through digital photogrammetry procedures. In the same field, terrestrial laser scanners (T…
Automatic knowledge discovery from sparse and large-scale educational data : case Finland
2017
The Finnish educational system has received a lot of attention during the 21st century. Especially, the outstanding results in the first three cycles of the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) have made Finland’s education system internationally famous, and its unique characteristics have been under active research by various, predominantly educational, scholars since then. However, despite the availability of real but often sparse big data sets that would allow more evidence-based decision making, existing research to date has mostly concentrated on using classical qualitative and (univariate) quantitative methods. This thesis discusses, in general terms, knowledge discove…
Lielo datu tehnoloģiju, mākslīgā intelekta ietekme uz demokrātiju: ASV gadījuma analīze
2019
