Basic processes in interference paradigms

The aim of the present thesis is to investigate the source of Stroop (interference) effects in weak bilinguals (Experiment 1) and in early language learning (Experiment 2-6). Participants performed a bilingual colour-word Stroop task with intermixed first language (L1) and second language (L2) words. The typical finding from the Stroop literature is slower and less accurate responding when the word and colour are incongruent (e.g., “red” in blue) relative to congruent (e.g., “red” in red). Interestingly, this congruency effect occurs for the colour words from both L1 and L2. What produces this congruency effect? In the future, thermal engines will face the challenge of emerging technologies in the frame of sustainable mobility and development. After an analysis of functioning principles and perspectives of development, particularly of combustion engines, thermal engines are compared to other realistic scenarios for transports applications in well-to-wheel and life cycle analysis.

Arctic is a region where a quick warming is ongoing. Effects are particularly visible on glaciers of which dynamics is very sensitive to climate change. The goal of this study is to identify and rank the main climatological and nivological factors influencing the mass balance of a small arctic glacier in Svalbard using a statistical approach. To highlight spatial differences, cartography were then used. Results show that positive degree-days play an important role in explaining mass balance contrary to liquid precipitations that had a marginal effect over the studied period (2007-2014). Moreover, years with very different climatic conditions can lead to a similar mass balance.
