Hydrodynamic equations of anisotropic, polarized and inhomogeneous superfluid vortex tangles
2008
We include the effects of anisotropy and polarization in the hydrodynamics of inhomogeneous vortex tangles, thus generalizing the well known Hall-Vinen-Bekarevich-Khalatnikov equations, which do not take them in consideration. These effects contribute to the mutual friction force ${\bf F}_{ns}$ between normal and superfluid components and to the vortex tension force $\rho_s{\bf T}$. These equations are complemented by an evolution equation for the vortex line density $L$, which takes into account these contributions. These equations are expected to be more suitable than the usual ones for rotating counterflows, or turbulence behind a cylinder, or turbulence produced by a grid of parallel th…
The stellar population of the Rosat North Ecliptic Pole survey. II. Spectral analysis
2008
X-ray surveys allow to identify young, main-sequence stars in the solar neighborhood. Young, stellar samples, selected according to their activity, can be used to determine the stellar birthrate in the last billion years. The ROSAT North Ecliptic Pole survey (NEP), with its moderately deep sensitivity (fluxes ~10^(-14) erg cm^(-2) sec^(-1)), is the best survey, to date, able to sample the intermediate-age (10^8 - 10^9 years) nearby population. The identification process of NEP X-ray sources resulted in 144 X-ray sources having a normal stellar counterpart, with an excess of yellow stars with respect to model predictions. We want to determine if these X-ray active stars are young or intermed…
Changes in epizoic crustacean infestations during cetacean die-offs: the mass mortality of Mediterranean striped dolphins Stenella coeruleoalba revis…
2006
In the summer and autumn of 1990, a cetacean morbillivirus caused a massive epizootic mortality of striped dolphins Stenella coeruleoalba in the western Mediterranean. Previous circum- stantial evidence suggested that the disease could also have increased host susceptibility to infesta- tions with epizoic crustaceans. In this study we provide strong evidence supporting this hypothesis. We examined striped dolphins stranded along the Mediterranean central coast of Spain from 1981 to 2004 (n = 136), and recorded data on prevalence, intensity of infestation, size and reproductive status of 2 sessile crustacean species specific to cetaceans, the phoront cirriped Xenobalanus globicipitis and the…
Sievietes tēla reprezentācija populārās mūzikas videoklipos. Billboard hitu analīze 2000., 2010. un 2020. gads
2022
Godbillon–Vey sequence and Françoise algorithm
2019
Abstract We consider foliations given by deformations d F + ϵ ω of exact forms dF in C 2 in a neighborhood of a family of cycles γ ( t ) ⊂ F − 1 ( t ) . In 1996 Francoise gave an algorithm for calculating the first nonzero term of the displacement function Δ along γ of such deformations. This algorithm recalls the well-known Godbillon–Vey sequences discovered in 1971 for investigation of integrability of a form ω. In this paper, we establish the correspondence between the two approaches and translate some results by Casale relating types of integrability for finite Godbillon–Vey sequences to the Francoise algorithm settings.
Periploca laevigata Aiton subsp. angustifolia (Labill.) Markgraf on Lampedusa Island
2012
Periploca laevigata Aiton subsp. angustifolia (Labill.) Markgraf [synonym: Periploca laevigata Labill.] (Apocynaceae – Periplocoideae sensu Endress & Bruyns 2000) is a Mediterranean-Saharan element growing wild in the low and middle Mediterranean basin and descending southwards to the northern and central Sahara. It is found in North Africa (from Morocco to Egypt), southern Spain, Sicily, Malta, Crete, Lebanon and Syria (Ghrabi 2005). In Sicily it is reported only from some Sicilian Islands: Egadi, Pantelleria, Lampedusa and Linosa (Pignatti 1982). In this paper we report some unpublished data and a summary of information of recent publications on P. laevigata subsp. angustifolia made durin…
Una pietra per l'architettura e la città. L'uso del grigio di Billiemi nella Sicilia d'età moderna e contemporanea
2015
A STONE FOR ARCHITECTURE AND CITIES THE USE OF GRIGIO DI BILLIEMI IN MODERN AND CONTEMPORARY SICILY The centuries-old history narrated in this book uses Billiemi stone as a unique leitmotiv in tracing the continuity, hiatuses and distinctive features of architecture in Sicily between the modern period and the contemporary age. Another equally important objective is to investigate the process by which the history of the use of a building material became a social and economic epic through a system of new construction practices, rules and customs. As a construction material, Billiemi stone was second only to calcarenite and was widely employed in urban civil and religious monumental architectu…
Bill2d - a software package for classical two-dimensional Hamiltonian systems
2015
Abstract We present Bill2d , a modern and efficient C++ package for classical simulations of two-dimensional Hamiltonian systems. Bill2d can be used for various billiard and diffusion problems with one or more charged particles with interactions, different external potentials, an external magnetic field, periodic and open boundaries, etc. The software package can also calculate many key quantities in complex systems such as Poincare sections, survival probabilities, and diffusion coefficients. While aiming at a large class of applicable systems, the code also strives for ease-of-use, efficiency, and modularity for the implementation of additional features. The package comes along with a use…
Effect of a common exercise programme with an individualised progression criterion based on the measurement of neuromuscular capacity versus current …
2021
IntroductionHigh-load resistance training has shown positive effects in pain and function in lower limb tendinopathies. However, some authors suggest that current exercise programmes produce an increase in tolerance to load and exercise in general but without fixing some existing issues in tendinopathy. This may indicate the need to include training aspects not currently taken into account in the current programmes. The main objective of this study will be to compare the effect of a common exercise protocol for the three predominant lower limb tendinopathies (Achilles, patellar and gluteal), based on an individualised control of the dose and training of specific aspects of the neuromuscular…
