Supramolecular assemblies and photophysical properties of ionic homo- and heteronuclear metallophilic complexes

2019

Abstract The synthesis of two dinuclear ionic complexes with chemical formula [Au(PR 3 ) 2 ][Au(C ≡ CC 5 H 4 N-4) 2 ] that contain the water soluble phosphines, PR 3 , PTA (1, 3,5-triaza-7-phosphaadamantane, 1 ) and DAPTA (3,7-diacetyl-1,3,7-triaza-5-phosphabicyclo[3.3.1]nonane, 2 ) is herein described. The differences on their intermolecular reorganization have been analyzed and compared with the previously reported for the neutral complexes [Au(PR 3 )(C ≡ CC 5 H 4 N-4)]. It has been evidenced that the reorganization of the ligands giving rise to the dinuclear ionic complexes produces a complete change in the properties giving rise to Au⋯Au intermolecular assemblies. These aurophilic conta…

A metal-free and regioselective approach to (Z)-β-fluorovinyl sulfones and their chemoselective hydrogenation to β-fluoroalkyl sulfones

2018

Abstract A highly regioselective, metal-free hydrofluorination reaction of alkynyl sulfones was developed using TBAF—one of the cheapest and most commonly available fluoride sources. In addition, the reactivity of the resulting β-fluorovinyl sulfones was studied, focusing on their selective hydrogenation reaction. Both β-fluorovinyl sulfones and their hydrogenation products β-fluoroalkyl sulfones may find applications in medicinal and agrochemical sciences.

Unveiling the high reactivity of cyclohexynes in [3 + 2] cycloaddition reactions through the molecular electron density theory

2018

[3 + 2] cycloaddition (32CA) reactions of cyclohexyne, a cyclic strained acetylene, with methyl azide and methoxycarbonyl diazomethane have been studied within the Molecular Electron Density Theory (MEDT) at the MPWB1K/6-311G(d) computational level. These 32CA reactions, which take place through a one-step mechanism involving highly asynchronous transition state structures, proceed with relatively low activation enthalpies of 6.0 and 4.3 kcal mol-1, respectively, both reactions being strongly exothermic. The reactions are initiated by the creation of a pseudoradical center at one of the two acetylenic carbons of cyclohexyne with a very low energy cost, 1.0 kcal mol-1, which promotes the eas…

Cobaltocenium substituents as electron acceptors in photosynthetic model dyads

2017

Abstract Cobaltocenium carboxylic acid hexafluorophosphate has been attached to a zinc(II) meso-tetraphenyl porphyrin chromophore via an amide linkage. Optical and electrochemical studies reveal that the metallocene and the porphyrin interact only negligibly in the ground state of the dyad. Photoinduced charge-shift from the zinc porphyrin to the cobaltocenium substituent to give the zinc porphyrin radical cation and the cobaltocene occurs upon exciting the porphyrin with light. Steady state emission, time-resolved fluorescence and transient absorption pump–probe spectroscopy in addition to density functional theory calculations suggest that the charge shift to the cobaltocenium substituent…

Highly Anisotropic Rhenium(IV) Complexes: New Examples of Mononuclear Single-Molecule Magnets

2013

The rhenium(IV) complex (NBu4)2[ReBr4(ox)] (1) (ox = oxalate and NBu4(+) = tetra-n-butylammonium cation) has been prepared and its crystal structure determined by X-ray diffraction. The structure is made up of discrete [ReBr4(ox)](2-) anions and bulky NBu4(+) cations. Each [ReBr4(ox)](2-) anion is surrounded by six NBu4(+) cations, which preclude any significant intermolecular contact between the anionic entities, the shortest rhenium···rhenium distance being 9.373(1) Å. Variable temperature dc and ac magnetic susceptibility measurements and field-dependent magnetization experiments on polycrystalline samples of 1 reveal the occurrence of highly anisotropic magnetically isolated Re(IV) cent…

Total Synthesis of (-)-Oxycodone via Anodic Aryl-Aryl Coupling.

2019

A fully regio- and diastereoselective electrochemical 4a–2′-coupling of a 3′,4′,5′-trioxygenated laudanosine derivative enables the synthesis of the corresponding morphinandienone. This key intermediate is further transformed into (−)-oxycodone through conjugate nucleophilic substitution for E-ring closure and [4 + 2] cycloaddition with photogenerated singlet oxygen to accomplish diastereoselective hydroxylation at C-14. The anodic transformation provides high yields and can be performed under constant current conditions both in a simple undivided cell or in continuous flow.

Unexpected Scholl Reaction of 6,7,13,14-Tetraarylbenzo[k]tetraphene: Selective Formation of Five-Membered Rings in Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons

2016

Cyclodehydrogenation is a versatile reaction that has enabled the syntheses of numerous polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). We now describe a unique Scholl reaction of 6,7,13,14-tetraarylbenzo[k]tetraphene, which "unexpectedly" forms five-membered rings accompanying highly selective 1,2-shift of aryl groups. The geometric and optoelectronic nature of the resulting bistetracene analogue with five-membered rings is comprehensively investigated by single-crystal X-ray, NMR, UV-vis absorption, and cyclic voltammetry analyses. Furthermore, a possible mechanism is proposed to account for the selective five-membered-ring formation with the rearrangement of the aryl groups, which can be ration…

Cytosine Nucleobase Ligand: A Suitable Choice for Modulating Magnetic Anisotropy in Tetrahedrally Coordinated Mononuclear CoII Compounds

2017

A family of tetrahedral mononuclear CoII complexes with the cytosine nucleobase ligand is used as the playground for an in-depth study of the effects that the nature of the ligand, as well as their noninnocent distortions on the Co(II) environment, may have on the slow magnetic relaxation effects. Hence, those compounds with greater distortion from the ideal tetrahedral geometry showed a larger-magnitude axial magnetic anisotropy (D) together with a high rhombicity factor (E/D), and thus, slow magnetic relaxation effects also appear. In turn, the more symmetric compound possesses a much smaller value of the D parameter and, consequently, lacks single-ion magnet behavior.

Isomerization of perchlorohexatriene in three consecutive rearrangements to perchloro-2-vinylbutadiene

2017

Perchlorohexatriene isomerizes in three subsequent rearrangements to perchloro-2-vinylbutadiene. A radical-induced Z-E-equilibration of linear perchlorohexatrienes is followed by cyclization to a methylenecyclopentene. Under flash-vacuum pyrolysis conditions, a ring contraction to 1,2-dimethylenecyclobutane occurs. In the condensed phase, a radical-induced ring opening generates the branched perchloro-vinylbutadiene. All compounds are converted to hexachlorobenzene, but only at very high temperatures.
