Flamingo studies: a general introduction.

28 pages; International audience; Flamingos are among the most amazing birds in the world. The first part of this chapter provides a general introduction to the various extant species of flamingos, including their physical descriptions, unique characteristics, numbers in the wild, and geographical distributions. The second part depicts a brief history of the discovery and scientific study of flamingos, from the earlier accounts dating from the 16th century to the development of the first long-term studies of banded populations in the second half of the 20th century. The third and final part of this chapter offers some perspectives for future research.

The purpose of this article is to approach the didactic treatment of biodiversity conservation issues from the double perspective of scientific literacy and environmental education. We attempt to provide ideas on how articulating their respective theoretical speeches with practice in biological education; understanding the need to fit principles and goals that characterize them, with the processes of teaching and learning concepts, values, processes and techniques; significantly necessary to develop of citizenship, critical interpretation and based decision-making capacities, related to the political proposals and measures on biodiversity conservation.

Nowadays, a significant part of cities is tackling the problems with post-mining areas. This manuscript is an original research which shows possibilities of their reclamation. The aim of the article is to present the proposal of developing the closed limestone quarry and creating a botanical garden. The proposed spatial solutions allow for creating a new, tourist and recreation space, maintaining the natural heritage. Aim: Biological diversity typically varies between climatically different regions, and regions closer to the equator often support higher numbers of taxa than those closer to the poles. However, these trends have been assessed for a few organism groups, and the existing studies have rarely been based on extensive identical surveys in different climatic regions. It is always about producing, transporting, distributing and supplying electricity, respecting the general interest. Tree species influences diversity of ground-dwelling insects in afforested fields

Abstract Impaired natural ecosystems, such as agricultural lands, are restored toward original or other target stage. Because the long agricultural history has changed the physical, chemical and biological features of the soil, afforested fields can harbor novel species assemblages and interactions. Our overall aim was to quantify the diversity of ground beetles and ants in early successional afforested fields. In a large scale field experiment, we compared plots that had been afforested 25 years ago by planting monocultures of birch, pine or spruce trees.
