Improving lipase activity in solvent-free media by interfacial activation-based molecular bioimprinting

Abstract Nine lipases of mammalian, fungal and bacterial origin and two different model reactions, direct esterification and transesterification (alcoholysis), have been used to probe the potential in solvent-free media of the recently reported strategy of interfacial activation-based molecular (bio)imprinting (IAMI) [Mingarro et al., Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. USA , 92 (1995) 3308]. The results demonstrate that the imprinting treatment permits nonaqueous rate accelerations which are lipase-dependent and span in some cases up to higher than two orders of magnitude. Biocompatible polymeric micelles with polysorbate 80 for use in brain targeting.

In this paper, the synthesis and characterization of novel amphiphilic graft copolymers based on an alpha,beta-poly(N-2-hydroxyethyl)-D, L-aspartamide (PHEA) backbone and D, L-polylactic acid (PLA) hydrophobic side chains are reported. These copolymers were obtained starting from PHEA-ethylenediamine (PHEA-EDA), which was functionalized with polysorbate 80 (PS(80)) and/or PLA in order to obtain the PHEA-EDA-PS(80)-PLA and PHEA-EDA-PLA samples, respectively. The degrees of derivatization, DD(PS80) and DD(PLA), of PHEA-EDA-PS80-PLA, calculated by (1)H-NMR, resulted in being 1.2 +/- 0.03 mol% and 0.54 +/- 0.05 mol%, respectively, while that of PHEA-EDA-PLA was found to be 0.60 +/- 0.05 mol%. Luminometric sub-nanoliter droplet-to-droplet array (LUMDA) and its application to drug screening by phase I metabolism enzymes.

Here we show the fabrication of the Luminometric Sub-nanoliter Droplet-to-droplet Array (LUMDA chip) by inkjet printing. The chip is easy to be implemented and allows for a multiplexed multi-step biochemical assay in sub-nanoliter liquid spots. This concept is here applied to the integral membrane enzyme CYP3A4, i.e. the most relevant enzymatic target for phase I drug metabolism, and to some structurally-related inhibitors.

Structure and luminescence properties of supramolecular polymers of amphiphilic aromatic thioether–peptide conjugates in water

We present the preparation of luminophore–peptide conjugates that self-assemble into supramolecular polymers in neutral buffer. To this end, we have prepared a small library of six conjugates with varying substitution patterns of the aromatic thioethers, as well as varying amino acid sequences. The latter have allowed us to tune the thermodynamic driving force for self-assembly and probe their photoluminescent properties either in the monomeric or polymeric state, while fully avoiding selective solvent techniques or organic solvent mixtures. Charge dissipation in e-beam lithography with Novolak-based conducting polymer films

Charging of common resist materials during electron beam (e-beam) writing leads to deflection of the electron beam path, which can result in significant pattern displacement. Here we report a new conducting polymer to eliminate charging. A common approach is to place the conducting layer underneath the e-beam resist layer. Conductivity equal or greater than 10(-4) S cm(-1) has been reported to prevent pattern displacement. Some other properties such as a flat surface layer, chemical inertness and insolubility in both the top resist solvent and the developer are also necessary. Performance of a hybrid activated sludge/biofilm process for wastewater treatment in a cold climate region: Influence of operating conditions

Biofiltration of ethylbenzene vapours: influence of the packing material.

In order to investigate suitable packing materials, a soil amendment composed of granular high mineralized peat (35% organic content) locally available has been evaluated as carrier material for biofiltration of volatile organic compounds in air by comparison with a fibrous peat (95% organic content). Both supports were tested to eliminate ethylbenzene from air streams in laboratory-scale reactors inoculated with a two-month conditioned culture. In pseudo-steady state operation, experiments at various ethylbenzene inlet loads (ILs) were carried out.
